Was there no one on the bench that could have run for Castellanos? The moment Nick made 2nd base it was obvious they should have pinch run for him.

Jimmy should be a coach. Absolutely crushed this and explains how crap our base running is. Another thing that’s an issue with this team

He said it was a good play to bunt, no thanks he can stay on the sidelines

Man, it's been a tough week to be a Philadelphia sports fan. Eagles drop a game, and the Phils are on the verge of being swept

I have a very moderate opinion of the Phillies. They were a good, well built team full of likable guys. They got old and reached the bad section of their contracts to the point that there weren’t enough resources to fill the holes outside of creative flea market shopping. No hate. It didn’t result in a title. Had some good moments.

That said, the sooner they pull the plug the better. I will die on a hill that their top minor league prospects are nothing special and are not going to be core championship players. They may be good, but they’ll just be some pieces. They need to shed all their salary fast and buy new franchise players….just like they bought Wheeler, Harper, Turner. Can’t buy a new team until they shed the current one. That starts with not re-signing Schwarber.

Problem is…they will re sign Schwarber because there will be a rebellion if they don’t. So they’ll burn all their resources into partially running back a declining team and they are going to miss the playoffs next year in the process.

Last night after the previous two seriously broke me

everything reflexes from the manager, i like rob Thompson, i just think he's too soft and you see it on the players, we need tougher, smarter coaches and manager and we need to bring in new players that will buy into that.

Just heard on 97.5 that Castellanos was complaining about the fans after the game. So done with that loser. Get him the F outta here along with Thompson, Long and anyone else needed to blow this thing up. Strap a brick to the gas pedal and drive off a cliff for all I care.

Screw him. You are damn right

I'm actually pissed off they have to play again. I'm so sick after that loss I want it over. Start ripping it the hell apart

Any pitcher on the bench

That guy slept?

I mean he’s technically right because Castellanos is clueless running the bases it completely blew up in their face. Just because he said it was a good play to bunt on does not mean he is going to bunt like Thomson did. Those are not the same thing. Frankly jimmy probably is more inclined to let Stott swing knowing Castellanos is not a good base runner. Heck Stott last 2 months is actually hitting better vs. LH than bader. Bader since August 1 vs. LHP is .210 and Stott .262. Since September 1 Stott is .280 and bader .200

I still wouldn’t have bunted because Stott is one of your best hitters over the last two months and his numbers against lefties had improved over those two months. But if Castellanos (frankly our team base running since kapler was manager) isn’t awful with his base running, he’s at 3B. Then again I wouldn’t have been bunting also knowing that the Phillies have been god-awful with base running since Gabe Kapler has been the manager and they’ve done nothing to fix it.

Should’ve. Also an issue cause they have too many platoons. Because of that you burn through normal guys. Only one left on bench is Marchan. So had to be a pitcher or him. If you use that pitcher to replace Castellanos then either schwarber is going to be put in the OF and pitcher(eventually replaced with Marchan) is now your DH in the lineup going forward or pitcher (Marchan) is going to play OF in the 10th if it gets there.

cause bader injury, he is getting removed after he gets a hit for Weston Wilson. Unless Phillies win that game in the bottom of the 9th you’d have had an outfield of max kepler in CF, Weston Wilson in one of the corner spots and whoever is pinch running (pitcher or Marchan) for Castellanos or schwarber goes to OF and your DH is Marchan or pitcher.

This goes back to a roster management decision of having Taijuan Walker on this playoff roster when he’s never going to be used. Knowing that you play a heavy platoon lineup, you should want to have even more everyday positional players. Because something like this could happen. Again goes back to the fact that Rojas got hurt but him, Crawford or even another guy on your 40 man instead of Walker could have been your late game pinch runner/defensive replacement and yet weren’t there knowing your roster and since you messed around all year with Crawford he wasn’t going to be it

Not trading Stott. First one of the best fielding 2B in baseball. Second he has finally adjusted and become an extremely good hitter. Particularly LHP he’s gone from bad to being a .262 hitter against them the last 2 months of the season (.280 with .333 in September). If anything I’d trade marsh when value is high cause he still is awful vs. LHP and his platoon is part of the reason you don’t have a pinch runner last night

Yeah Stott is elite as a defender and has great speed - gotta keep him. I am letting Ranger walk. I wouldn't mind keeping JT. Definitely keeping Bader. The rest can go.

I’d like to keep Ranger if the money is right. However i don’t see it being that and i kind of think he’s replaced by painter or wood. And use the money to extend luzardo.

As for JT I’d move on assuming they have a trade for catcher. If he was younger I’d keep him. But i have a feeling a team is going to give him 3 years and at price probably doesn’t warrant at his age due to the lack of talent at catcher in FA. I’d still see what it would cost for rutschman. I think getting him out of Baltimore would be big for his career. He knows they have been drafting to replace him and not giving him an extension.

Another reason why I would’ve let Stott hit is simply the two guys hitting behind him in Bader and Kepler have not been as consistent hitting against left-handed pitching the last two months. Particularly bader. Your best bet was Bryson Stott who’s been one of your hottest hitters down the stretch and has seemingly begun turning the corner against left-handed pitching.

Stott vs. LHP

Since Aug 1: 262/.304/.405/.709

Since Sept 1: 280/.333/.520/.853

Bader vs. LHP

Since August 1: .210/.275/.306/.582

Since September 1: .200/.250/.333/.583
