Would love Bader as well.

Tbh i think this kind of is a sign he’s not back. I hope I’m wrong. Feels like your stating OF is marsh, Crawford and Garcia. Might sign someone like refsnyder to platoon with marsh.

If that's it with the outfield, hopefully they can find a better bat in the infield.

Not a bad deal if he’s not your only OF singing. We will see what else they hopefully do

Tbh Garcia is a better defensive outfielder than Castellanos. But as a hitter, they’re pretty similar to what you’re gonna get at this stage if their careers. A lot of strikeouts, swinging out of the zone, declining player as he’s turning 33 (he might give you a couple extra home runs).

This is the same idea that they tried to do last year with Kepler hoping that they paid him $10 million and it would work out an he’d bounce back to what he was a couple years back. It’s very unlikely. I said this earlier in the off-season, if you’re not willing to actually spend the money to make big improvements to this team, then you should let Schwarber and Realmuto go. Cause without that you’re not winning a WS signing them and making minimal additions. And on getting into 5 year deal with schwarber and if JT is 3 then hurting your flexibility in future years tied up with them and a roster that still isn’t good enough.

If this is it for the OF then it’s basically what they tried with Merrifield and Kepler contracts. Hoping a guy has a bounce back year after he hasn’t been nearly as good in 2-3 years.

Rangers fans were saying he was playing hurt last year.  Let's hope that was some of the drop off.  He only played one post season in 2023 but he was clutch as f.  I guess low risk high reward signing.

It’s a Kepler type signing. Hoping he bounces back to what he was in 2023. What they were hoping for with Kepler. I’m guessing in CBP he’ll be somewhat better as more hitter friendly park. IMO expecting him to be the solution to your issues going on 33, strikes out a lot normally and declining the last 2 years feels like at the deadline we may need another bat.

Worrisome is for a RH hitter he’s never been great vs. LHP but he’s declined over the last 2 years since 2023. Which is a problem when you have Schwarber, Harper, and then Garcia in your lineup. In the playoffs teams  are still gonna use the lefties and until Garcia shows he can get back to being at 2023 version vs. LHP

16 Defensive Runs Saved vs - 11 for Castellanos.

He's a significantly better defensive player.

I’m OK with Garcia if there is a more significant move in the outfield coming. He’s better than Casty, but that’s not saying much. OF is paper thin. I think they bring back Bader. Crawford could 100% flop offensively as such a young hitter. They need a plan B, not to mention Marsh and Garcia are also sub par options that need platoon mates.

This paves the road to the Phillies having a worse hitting outfield than last year. I’m telling you guys they will not be a playoff team this year.

The guy is already an instant upgrade over Casty. Hopefully they can dump Casty and only retain 12.5m-15m. Every little bit of extra payroll flexibility helps.

Was a rumor yesterday if they bring back realmuto then bader is off the table.

I don’t know about not being a playoff team. I think they are still better ha the Mets and Atlanta who knows where they go.

That said, Garcia is an upgrade defensively over Castellanos. But he is essentially what Castellanos is as a hitter at this point of his career. Just assuming he’s going to bounce back to what he was 2 or 3 years ago is the same idea they had with Kepler and somewhat with Merrifield. It usually doesn’t work. But it’s likely what they can afford if JT is back due to poor spending and contracts given out by Dombrowski.

So we are at a point of what happens with Castellanos. Can they trade Castellanos and get a team to take on some of that money and outright release him (there’s been some speculation that could happen that they might have to just eat that $20 mil). If they can’t get a team to anbsorb some of his contract the you are spending $30 million on RF to not have Castellanos on the team and replace him with a guy who is just has had consecutive Castellanos like hitting seasons. That $30 doesn’t include the luxury tax on that money so technically it’s more. So is improving our field defense with Garcia worth spending $30+ mil on RF? essentially RF is on the books for $30 mil if Castellanos is just waived/released.

this goes back to the discussion of Dombrowski has done a below average to even poor job with the money in the FA market given to him. you shouldn’t have $30 million (or whatever they get a team to absorb with Castellanos even if they $5 mil off the hook spending $25 mil for casty to not be here and Garcia) invested on a guy who’s not on the team and Garcia who is regressing and declining at 32 going on 33 as a hitter as your Castellanos replacement. Whatever way they wanna slice it that is a lot of money to just get a defensive upgrade. Because there’s a chance $25-$30 million Cody Bellinger goes somewhere and is upgrade defensively and much bigger upgrade offensively

I’d point out that being the case they could’ve made a better move to fix the lineup than Garcia. Can use that same logic. Frankly said this earlier this offseason. Rumors mariners are dangling Arozerena whose value has declined like Garcia. Could deal Bohm (supposedly have interest) and strahm (also had interest) fo Arozerena. Salaries match somewhat evenly when projected for Bohm and Arozerena’s 2026. Then save the $10 mil with Garcia. Applied it toward Bichette to play 3rd. Eventually move Turner to second when miller is ready and use stott as a trade piece.

roll

Also potentially blow up in his face. So going into the season not knowing if Crawford could play CF and we know marsh isn’t a good centerfield lol

Idiots. Basically the entire season rests on kemp hopefully taking over for Marsh in LF, Crawford being good his rookie year, and bohm and stott not sucking.

Are there still believers in this thread, or have all of you seen the light that this team is going nowhere
