Monday at 10:21 PM2 days If the Phillies sign Bichetteand let JT walk, I will reevaluate my thoughts on this team but that’s not going to happen. They’re gonna end up giving Realmutothree years.

Castellanos can hit left-handed pitching. nobody is willing to trade for Castellanos and save you money. So essentially you’re either gonna have to eat a $20 million or you could just keep them on the roster to be a platoon with marsh. Castellanos might not like it but he signed the contract so he’s there if they want it. And if it gets to May and June he’s a bad or disrupting the clubhouse, then you can just release him at that point. Never gonna happen but it’s a better alternative than signing guys and hoping they hit like they do 2-3 years ago.Imo sign bichette. Move him to 3B. Then trade Bohm to a team that has solid catcher. Then go with Marchan and that traded catcher. At the deadline see where you are at and if need one then make a deal.

Personally would much rather have Bichette at this point than a declining Realmuto who thinks he's worth more than he is. Take your 240 avg and 12 HRs and beat it.

Further, this would only be a 2026 issue, and would go away next season. If Middleton is serious about winning a championship, he can buck up for a season.

They are financially strapped because of Dumbrowski's incompetence. He needs to get them out of it however he needs to since he is the one who caused it. Doubtful that he can though.

I kind of think he’s just going to be waived/released for $20 mil. The other issue is it’s not just $20 mil it’s luxury tax on the $20 owed to him. It’s why i said paying Garcia $10 mil is essentially paying RF $30 mil plus luxury tax it’s even more absurd. Even if you don’t sign JT, dump Bohm then you are paying Bichette, the issue arises that you have Marchan and Stubbs at catcher. If you upgrade from Stubbs/marchan you are still paying more plus tax on that player. Probably wind up paying more on Bichette, another catcher than what JT’s salary is going to be this year and Bohm. Really Dave handed out a bunch of bad contracts that hinders them til next offseason. IMO Middleton should just pony up the money for 2026 as in 2027 he has something like 80 mil in AAV coming off the books. Frankly wasting 2026 to spend in 2027 as guys get older and decline more is a bad plan.

I’d argue in a better lineup he’s likely same as realmuto hitting at this stage of his career. However realmuto is a better defensive catcher. Unless they could get Tyler Stephenson from the reds.
