I hope these expanded playoffs are not forever, teams like the Phillies do not deserve to be near the playoffs

They just have an awful bullpen.
And the problem for Girardi is that he managed the Yankees before this.  If there was a hole in NY, they just spent money and fixed it.  Girardi doesn’t know how to win with a team built like this.

Arrieta was horrible, but he was still more reliable than Velasquez (and others).  This team is in serious trouble now with all the injuries.  I think they miss the playoffs.

This applies to almost all Philly pro sports lol.

Good. It means klentak gets canned and we get a GM in that knows wtf he’s doing. Hopefully mcphail is also booted

yup and no manager would win with this squad, matt k never went after talent for the bullpen, that's why we suck so much, actually we need a third starting pitcher as well. klentak has to go and a new gm has to bring in talent.

They signed Robertson for big money but he only pitched once or twice.

Does it? Klentak should have been fired last year and wasn’t. What makes you think he gets canned now?

That was such a dumb contract when they signed him. I came on here and was angry about it because you don’t give a 34-year-old reliever that type of money. Usually at 34 they either start breaking down or they’re just not as good as they were when they were in their prime.  It’s rare you get the 34-year-old reliever that stays consistent as they get older. That’s 11.75 mill the last two years they got nothing from. Add on the Stupidity of the arrieta trade. Signed an over the hill starter that no one in the league wanted to 25 mil. Then had the balls to say it would not effect them in spending down the road. It did exactly that.

I would bet it does. Hard to keep a guy when it’s an 8 team playoff system and misses it meanwhile teams after you started your rebuild have rebuilt and are contenders. I’d add on last year Gabe was the scapegoat. There’s no other scapegoat now. It’s all on klentak.

He built an Historically bad bullpen.  He can blame it on the injuries that they didn’t make it. However this team might not have made it with the bullpen that he constructed. if it was just a below average bullpen I think he could probably survive. But this one might go down as the worst bullpen in major-league baseball history. They’ve blown 12 saves. And they’re damn close in ERA to the worst bullpen in baseball history. I don’t think you survive that if you missed the playoffs in a format where More than half the NL teams make it.

Ideally, they would develop more homegrown talent so they don't need to sign washed up free agents.

Well they failed at that for the last 6-7 years. Legit bohm might be the only prospect that winds up being a good major leaguer. Howard might but he really was up and down in his stint this year. I really don’t see it from moniak or haseley. Frankly Haseley should’ve been getting playing time to see and they refused too

Workman's .392 opponents' batting average since the day he joined the Phillies (August 22) is the highest for any reliever in all of Major League Baseball over that span.

His WHIP is 2.66. Ponder that number for a second. It essentially means Workman is loading the bases almost every time out. Unsurprisingly, that is also the highest among all major-league relievers over that span.

lol

What a weird season. If you resign didi and JT this team has a lot of really good pieces now with Bohm playing well. I dont think they're far from a serious contender with a half decent bullpen and another starting pitcher. Hopefully next year will be a big step.

Moniak looks good....

Ahhhhh the bullpen or as they should be called klentak klux klan

Moniak and marchan are already better than kingery

Harper is the man. Well be let down next inning but hell of a 6th inning anyway.

Neris trying his best to lose this game

thankfully Roman Quinn didn’t show off his defensive skills there.

Quinn was 0 for 6 with 6 Ks in the DH.

Who the Hell is this Marchan guy?

Nice outing by Efflin.  Treading water at the .500 mark.  Only 9 games to go, can they do it?

First time the Phillies have swept a doubleheader since 2012.

not defending on matt but finding star pitchers in the draft is very hard to do. draft is a crap shoot. you got to be yankees and just throw money or trade for talent, not unless the player you drafted is a star.

Just saying Haseley with a mustache reminds me of wario

Whoa, 3 scoreless innings from the bp tonight. Even Vinnie pitched a decent game.
