Well it was an interesting season for sure. We have some horrible contracts coming off the books, I'm excited about next year assuming they resign JT and Didi. If they do not resign JT and Didi we are in for a long season next year most likely. Bohm being good really makes this lineup formidable. You would think the bullpen and pitching next year would have to be better just by the law of averages and how bad it was this year.

Re-signing JT and Didi should be the first 2 priorities.  Then make the BP better and add 1 competent SP.  That'd be a good first step for next season then build on that.

It’s still not over fellas.

Still 5 teams fighting for 4 playoff spots.  All teams with around .500 records.  Some teams (like us) with only 3 games left to play while others have 6.  Sucks we have to play away (where we're only 9-16) to the 2nd best team record-wise in MLB.  Are they calling up youngins to get some PT for a playoff push?  Or are we screwed?

SF making it over the Phillies with Kapler as their manager would be hilarious.

Since all ties will be decided mathematically and there are no "Game 61s”, here are the tiebreakers to keep in mind going into this final weekend:

  • The Reds and Marlins both own tiebreakers over the Phillies no matter how this final weekend plays out.
  • The Phillies own the tiebreaker over the Giants.
  • The Cardinals have to win two of five against the Brewers to gain the tiebreaker over the Phillies.
  • The Brewers have to take four of five in that series to gain the tiebreaker over the Phillies.

Here are all the different potential scenarios for the Phillies this weekend, and what it would take for them to reach the postseason if they occur:

Phillies sweep Rays

A sweep of the best team in the American League would leave the Phillies at 31-29 on the season. If they pull this off, they will grab the second spot in the NL East if the Marlins go 2-2 down the stretch against the Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees.

If the Marlins fare better than that, though, the Phillies still have a shot. They would need two of the following things to happen in order to grab one of the remaining wild card spots:

  • Giants finish 3-2 or worse
  • Reds finish 1-2 or worse
  • Brewers finish 3-2 or worse
  • Cardinals finish 3-4 or worse

Phillies take two of three

The Phillies could still take the second spot in the NL East in this scenario. They would need the Marlins to go 1-3 or worse in their remaining four games for this to happen.

Similar scenarios exist for one of the final wild card spots, too, and two of the following would need to happen for the Phillies to sneak in:

  • Giants finish 2-3 or worse
  • Reds finish 0-3
  • Brewers finish 3-2 or worse
  • Cardinals finish 2-5 or worse

Phillies take one of three

The only way for the Phillies to take the second NL East spot would be for the Marlins to lose out. Their chances greatly decrease in this scenario, and they would need two of the following to take a wild card spot:

  • Giants finish 1-4 or worse
  • Brewers finish 2-3 or worse
  • Cardinals finish 1-6 or worse

Phillies get swept

The chance that the Phillies make the playoffs in this scenario is extremely low, and they would have no way of taking the second spot in the NL East. Two of the following would need to happen:

  • Giants finish 0-5 or worse
  • Brewers finish 1-4 or worse
  • Cardinals finish 0-7

No matter what the Phillies do, a playoff spot is far from a guarantee. Their best shot will be to take care of business in Tampa Bay this weekend.

They have to use Wheeler and Nola this weekend.

This scenario describes 2020 perfectly.

unless we have alot of money left, we probably have to add 1 year cheap vets to these spots, young players wont come cheap.

The have no chance at winning the World series, if they make the playoffs they will just say see we are making progress and there will be no moves to improve the team

Honestly klentak would deserve to be fired even more if it happened. It would more of a reflection his roster construction stunk as kapler took a team that was expected to finish last to the playoffs

Describes the Eagles last year and missed out on Lamb because of it

Bullpen in = no need to keep watching

Another "gem" by Velasquez. I heard a stat earlier on the radio about Vinny. This was his 85th start and I believe that this will be the 55th time that he pitched 5 innings or less. How pathetic is that?

Fat f*** Hunter sucks

A fitting way for it to end. The bullpen completely letting us down And Velasquez can’t even go five

I didn't think anyone in their bullpen threw any heat but Brogdon is throwing 96-97. It's certainly nice to see.

He’s actually one of the better bullpen prospects. I just think he doesn’t have the experience which hurts him. That’s the issue with a lot of the young guys that they have been wise. They needed seasoning in the minors for a year and then get called up at the end of the year they probably would’ve had more success. But I just thrown into the fire of a 60 game season

I fully expect the rays to have a ninth inning walk off to end our season

Why even have morgan throw pitches. Just intentionally walk a few guys then bring in the next garbage reliever.

This bullpen

Yankmees tied it up with the Fish.  SF won game 1 of a DH with the Fathers.  The Cards lost 1st game of a DH with the Brewers, but have a good lead in game 2.  We're not good on the road at 9-17 now.  Still in the overall picture, but looking bleaker by the day.

The bullpen is just comically bad.

So basically how the Phillies somehow make the playoffs:

—win out

—cardinals beat the brewers in one of the next two games.

— padres beat the giants in one of the next two games.

or

— win 1 of 2

– padres win the next two against the giants

— cardinals win the next two against the brewers.

Thank god finally good news.
