Very, very confusing.

What makes America special and different is that the question asked is the wrong one. It's not a question of "do they deserve it" - the answer is always "we have due process" because that is how you protect yourself from tyranny. Because the system was specifically designed to eliminate as much prejudice as possible at every stage - every person has the right to advocate for themselves in a court of law.

What you and other pieces of ish want is mob justice. Because you cannot see past the end of your nose.

America is great because it has put in place a system where mob justice and mob rule cannot take root. It has not in over 250 years, and it will not despite your efforts to turn our nation into a weak and feckless land like Russia or China.

Thank you for posting this so I didn't have to. I didn't agree with the post 9/11 move to designate enemy combatants and hold them in Guantanamo without trial indefinitely. You can hold a POW or enemy combatant off the battle field until the war is over, but the better option would have been to put these people on trial. Provide them with defense counsel and give them every benefit of our legal system that their culture rejects. For one very important reason - to show that WE ARE BETTER THAN THEM. Our system is better, and we don't compromise our principles.

Lowering ourselves to their standards means we lose.
