Are you trying to say a lot of the democrats didn't want to "defund the police"?

I'm pretty sure it was about his crush on the metro doing the spinning for the Dems, rather than anything Wallace had to say.

They never wanted to "defund the police".  "Defund the police" was the stupidest buzz word the Repubs ever came up with last year, and it obviously worked with their base and even some of the more fringe liberal segments. That doesn't make it any less stupid.

To your point, obviously there were a lot of issues with police reform that had already been circulating for years and obviously came to a head with the unusual number of killings last summer and the response by BLM.  Yes, some left wing extremists made insane comments, some law makers even suggested unusual stuff, but there was never a Congress backed mandate or a proposed bill to outright reduce or even limit spending on Police or law enforcement.  So no, there was never a Dem backed push to "defund the police".

And in fact, as the Fox News host in the video said above, the most recent bill the Dems have brought forward includes over $350B specifically to fund the Police, in various ways.  Which, btw, every single Repub, has voted against.

Defund the police didn't originate with Republicans.

It was a gift to Republicans from moronic left wingers.

He's not wrong that the proposals that Biden and most Democrats have endorsed and actually been working to pass are for additional funding for the police. Biden has never been a #defundthepolice pol. And it's also true that it was a minority of Dems that vocally supported the defund movement.

But it most certainly originated on the left. I argued with my left wing buddies about how horrible it was as a slogan, even if you thought it was good policy.

"If you're explaining, you're losing."

Where exactly did it originate, if not as a re-purposed response by the right?

Honestly, I don't remember any legit law makers even suggesting it (read: straight defunding) as a platform.

I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

Tlaib (D-Mich.) and fellow squad members Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) had issued statements calling out racial injustice in response to Wright’s death.

"It wasn’t an accident. Policing in our country is inherently & intentionally racist. Daunte Wright was met with aggression & violence,” Tlaib wrote in a tweet Monday evening.

"I am done with those who condone government-funded murder. No more policing, incarceration, and militarization. It can’t be reformed,” she continued, reiterating her position that the police, as currently trained, cannot protect their communities and must be defunded and replaced.”
