We burn gas/coal/oil to get the electricity to power the battery and then throw it in a landfill once it isn’t useful any more. Not to mention the lithium mines. Save the planet!!! Drive electric!!! Didn’t stop me from investing in lithium though. Keep buying them electric cars hippies!!!
April 2, 20223 yr Sales guys like me can do 500 miles per day easy, and we don’t have 30+ minutes to stand around waiting for a charge.

If you’re spending over 7 hours a day driving a minimum of 70 mph to get that easy 500 miles per day… you ain’t spending much time selling anything as it is…

If work is a commute it doesn't work at all. Say they live close to work. Before i moved i was about 10 miles from my job. My car got in the mid 30s for "city" gas millage. Why bother? I'd fill it every 2 weeks. Not worth the bother for a EV at that point, just get a small economy car. Like I said, out of touch. Sounds nice. I wish I was more musical. Ok, great. Then wouldn't this be an exact scenario to buy a car at an affordable price that doesn't require gas? Because you DONT put a ton of miles on it and can EASILY charge with a trickle charge overnight to have plenty of range daily. Also it occurred to me over the weekend that the meme didn't account for your range of knowledge and has been updated accordingly. You also know there are parking spots that you can charge your car while running an errand. I know this blows kills your "trickle charge isn't good enough for folks", but now that you brought up a point I was waiting to, that most people don't drive even close to the total range on a daily basis, and the fact there are other ways to occasionally make up the deficit if you far too far behind..... But if you want something nice, gas OR EV, you are going to $$$.

Second, we want a car we can keep for 20 years. I guess the speed of charging could also solve the problem if it were to improve enough. Anyway, we aren’t talking about a commuter car in our situation. We take the subway into town. Teslas are close now. Might go for one of those. I've just wanted to wait until the tech reached a spot where I thought we could buy and then keep a car for 15-20 years. Gotcha. Yeah, if we are to do a trip like that, we would have to stop at a level 3 charger along the way. A bit of a pain but sort of similar to needing to stop to gas up on a road trip. When doing a long trip I can't think of a single gas stop where we just gas'd and go. Usually someone hits the bathroom, buys a cold drink, etc, while gasing up. One thing I'm really curious is to see firsthand what a car with over 200 mile range actually gets on the highway. The faster you go, the more you work the engine and drain the battery due to the fact electric motors don't have gears.

Curious where you saw that since I've read so many different things. This one I thought was interesting. tl;dr: Quote This all proved that the pack delivered just over 67 kWh. When the car was new, it had about 75 kWh of battery capacity. So, the total loss at over 100,000 miles is around 10 to 11 percent. Now that is based on mileage, not time. I'm also to see how they fair in cold vs moderate vs hot climates over 10 years. On 4/2/2022 at 7:02 AM, 20dawk4life said: Yea but filling up a tank of gas is a hell of a lot quicker and easier than charging up a car. Depends on the charger. On the road you'll likely hit a level 3 charger, which has a rate of 3 to 20 miles per minute. The charge rate depends on how empty your battery is, the lower the charge, the faster the charge rate. So in theory you can add 100 miles in 5-6 minutes. Throughout the day, do you ever park in a lot that has a charger when you go into a sales meeting? Realistically that's the only way for someone in sales to make it work IMO On 4/2/2022 at 8:26 AM, Boogyman said: Just drink 3 cups of coffee and you are good to go, until you get maybe 20 miles down the road and have to ish yourself. The trip is a little over 400 miles, and we generally had to stop 2x at a Supercharger. Once is doable -- you get lunch while it charges. The second one is annoying. If we did it with one stop, the car was all but dead by the time we got to her parents. And no -- you don't get the same mileage while speeding on I-5. Now that I have the Taycan, her car is a hybrid so we can use that for any longer trips if need be. But we really never drive long distances.
