How do you think charter schools get their money?

From people fleeing a shiddy school or district.  Money follows the kid to a better school alternative.  I don't see why a home district should get paid for student they aren't educating.

charter schools are paid out of the district budget.

the Philadelphia School District funds the charter schools there, for example. they send like $13k/student out of their budget.

I know how it works since we have quite a few Charter School clients.  The money is still going to the school where the kid is being educated not disappearing like a fart in the wind.  Districts need to clean up their act to keep students from fleeing to Charter Schools.  Most of the cases are kids coming from rough school districts and of course there are a lot of arts related ones.

cool.. I stated that more because I have seen numbers shared that tries to claim the cost per student for the Philly school district is upwards of $25k, because they took the total PhilaSD budget and divided it only by the student population of the district-run schools, ignoring the fact that a huge chunk of that funding goes to charter schools which is a different headcount.

Allentown and I believe Bethlehem have employees who are strictly in charge of tracking kids to the charter school's and issuing the reimbursements.

I don't really deal with Philadelphia charter schools at all.  Had one a while back that was Hope Charter School.  That one was a dumping ground for the completely hopeless juvenile delinquents in Philly.  I believe they actually scored a 0.0 in math proficiency one year.  I remember reading the board minutes and there was a theft of cash from the office by a student so they got a safe.  The safe was then stolen so they made a resolution to get a new one and bolt it down.  Needless to say, it was eventually absorbed by another charter school.
