Exactly, this was just a take whatever little you can get and help a player out type of trade.  Builds good will for others to reciprocate when situation is reversed

Yup. Trying to figure out if they get a trade exception. Seen because they are maneuvering from under the cap they don’t. Then also saw they do and if they announce things in a certain order they can use it in another way. Doesn’t seem like anyone has a clear answer yet

The 2029 clippers pick is technically a swap

Neubeck said Sixers monitoring Martin but probably out of their range. I saw somewhere that Miami had offered him 12. Not sure if true but that wouldn’t work for Sixers

It feels like the Sixers will need to wait out the guys want 10+. Also are the guys who want 8 that much different than the guys who will be forced to take the minimum when the music stops. I know it’s not that easy to replicate Oubre from last year but it happens

How about Precious Achiuwa from the Knicks? They didn't extend their $6.3 million qualifying offer to him, so he's still a UFA. Achiuwa is undersized for a C, but we already have Andre Drummond to back up Embiid at C, and his size is adequate to play PF at 6'8.

Signing Precious would give us a PF and the added bonus of keeping a good player away from a top rival in the East. He'd have a chance for more playing time given the lack of depth at PF. Of course, the Knicks could be intending to re-sign him and are just waiting for the market to cool down some?

Caleb Martin would be a nice addition but he's already undersized for a PF at 6'5 and makes more sense at SF.

I am just curious but why did the sixers not keep Buddy Hield?

They have about 9mil to spend and I don’t think they liked his fit last year enough to spend every remaining dollar on him and have no PF

He played for Nurse. Unclear if that helps or hurts. I don’t know enough about him tbh

He adds pretty much 0 on offense. He shot 28% from 3 to 10 feet. Knicks and Celtics all 5 guys that can shoot and spread the floor. You can't have a 0 in your starting lineup anymore

PG is the modern version of a 4, he is a legit 6'8"

That's a fair point, perhaps the best strategy is to get someone like Martin, or another SF type that would allow us to slide PG to the 4?

What about Sadiq Bey?

He's coming off an injury

Think he tore his acl in mid March. He’s not gonna be ready til like Jan/feb next year. And that’s if everything goes right and there’s him playing on it a year removed from surgery. He’d be better prospects for the 2025-2026 team

My feeling is they need someone who can play defense to keep the load off of PG having to play too hard on that end too often.  They have plenty of scoring on the starting unit.  Bench scoring could be issue tho.

Frankly if they could get Haywood highsmith and Caleb Martin it’s a pretty good get. But i don’t see them getting both. Plus there’s a report Martin wants $15 mil which is ridiculous. I don’t see him getting that unless it’s from a bad team like the pistons

Yeah that extension was 12 from reports. Paul Reed got 7 last year. That tweeter space is tough to predict. Hield just got 9-10. Highsmith seems most likely at their price range. Maybe with Marcus Morris on minimum. Or maybe they make a trade but that seems limiting from a future move standpoint

I kind of see it going down like this, they sign Haywood Highsmith. They get Marcus Morris on a veteran minimum. They’re gonna wind up balloon contract to KJ Martin. First year high number and non-guaranteed second year. So at the trade deadline, they can deal KJ Martin and match salary to bring back a player they want. While including draft assets to acquire such player.

Yeah that seems to be where it’s heading unless some other position becomes an opportunity like Tyus Jones or something

It feels like teams are running out of money. Some of these players are going to have to choose between a nicer MLE, or BAE amount. Or, take a 1+1 type of deal with a contender and hit the market again next year.

Tyus Jones, DeRozan, Bridges, and Caleb Martin are probably the 4 best players who can either start or play an at least 20+ minute role off the bench for a team. At this point taking less to sign with Philly has to be becoming a pretty attractive option for some of those guys.

I don’t think DeRozan would increase his value on Sixers. Martin could. Jones maybe would too but no mention of him beyond my post 🙂

I guess tomorrow at 12pm is the official start of free agenty/league year. I think thats what time it starts anyway...

I wonder if there are any unannounced moves that we will find out about at that time. As they are discussing on realgm, we cant just wait out players for an indefinite period before signing Maxey to his contract. And once we do that we have no cap space, so the free agents or trades in to cap space need to come first.

I think it’s Saturday at noon

I was in Vegas last week.  Wife was at a Fraud conference.  Wound up playing crapless craps with Tyron Lue, Mike Brown, Norman Powell, a Clippers assistant coach and a CEO from a large software company whose anonymity I respect for about 7 hours over two days.  The second day I was playing before they got there.  I was on a heater when Coach Lue walked up.  Pitt boss announced they were closing my table and taking it private.  Coach Lue asked me if I was going to his private table.  I told him only if he told the Pitt boss that I make $50 minimum bets.  His tables are $300 minimum.  He looked at the Pitt boss and said’ "this my boy…he bets whatever he wants.”  We crushed it.  These guys never had less than $10k each spread across the table and I’m betting $50 on the pass line and occasionally backing it up with $25 odds.  Me and the CEO had a back to back where we threw over 50 times together, hit the point 9 times and crushed hard ways and low numbers.  The CEO and Coach Lue were both up over $100k.  Before I left on the second day I got a pic with Coach Lue.  I asked him if PG was gonna be a Clipper or Sixer and he told me he honestly didn’t know.  I left Vegas with forty-seven $100 bills.  Coach Lue and Brown were really cool.  I said nothing about the AI step over.
