But his size and lack of speed will be his downfall if he doesn’t make it. I still think Landry Shamet is going to be his best case scenario upside.

The next batch of summer league games starting Saturday will be spaced out better. Man, I really hope not. I really think he should study Brunson and try to mimic him. I’m not saying he will be anywhere near as good but I think that style is the way for him to reach his ceiling.

It's been nice to see his craftiness around the basket. His court vision (weird he averaged less than 2 assists a game at Duke), and his hustle. But he didn't show much other than shooting in college, and to do these other things against NBA defenders is a while other level than summer league. And I'm just so skeptical about his size, lack of athleticism, and college style of play leading to somehow a much more well rounded NBA player.

Lowry has made 270 million and Harden will be at 400 and they are furthest thing from athletes. People see that a guy can't jump high or move fast and think he isn't an athlete. The most underrated part of the modern game is the ability to decelerate at a high rate. McCain is a guy that can do that. Give the kid time, he can hoop and will eventually be asked to do more lead guard stuff.

I can’t tell how fast his first step is yet but he seems to be able to beat guys off the dribble with his craftiness and ball handling. I think he should study Brunson’s game.

I think his development curve might run along a similar timeline to theirs, where they both took a few years to break out, although he has a more polished outside shot than either of them came into the league with. Not to say I think he's going to be as good as those two players necessarily but I think his playing style will be similar.

There is no first step wasnt even good enough in the college game with that.. I know Fultz was a great off dribble guy due to change of pace. But Fultz had other attributes that McCain does not. Shamet isn't a horrible outcome for a non-lottery pick. I hope McCain will be better, and things he's shown In SL are promising. but I'm still not counting on it.

July 12, 20241 yr Lakers are trying to get him but sounds like the need to make a trade or 2 first The Los Angeles Lakers are continuing to look for ways to shed additional salary, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line. D'Angelo Russell and Gabe Vincent are amongst the potential trade candidates. The team wants to create enough room to use their $5.2 million taxpayer midlevel exception. The Lakers have been linked with a move for Gary Trent Jr. should they get further away from the second apron.
