Can trade him for a player that makes 15.5 with the new cba near the deadline. However if you include someone with it could get up to like 20-23 depending on the player

2 year 16 million,  isn't that like 8M per year? Or is he just reporting on the guaranteed 1st year amount?

Refreshing. Too bad the Knicks are the beneficiaries.

It’s 8 mil per. But with the new cba you can take on his salary plus 7.5 mil added on in a trade if you are under the cap. So hypothetically can take on 15.5 if you trade him

Are we under the cap at this point though? Did Daryl leave like 50 bucks so we could do that?

I was under the impression that we would be over the cap but under the 1st apron.

Based off what I’ve seen we are like a million below currently

This guy is saying we will be over the apron already with the roster filled out...

So I dont understand, why not sign to a bigger number? Is it all about keeping players happy and not paying him more than say Oubre?

Also, these vet min guys are pretty good. Im not sure we want to sign someone like Marcus Morris and trade him again. I think its a bad look for the franchise. What vet mins will we actually want to package for a DFS level player, or actually what looks like it will be someone who makes less?

I dont think Nurse trades Lowry. I dont think we will want to trade Gary Trent if we land him....

Im suddenly having trouble seeing this one play out in a worthwhile way at this salary level.

Here is a useful tweet of names to watch for at this salary level.

The question though, is how many of these guys are better than just saving the trouble, releasing KJ (and his cap hold) and signing Marcus Morris for the min? I dont see a lot of significant upgrades to make this worth it.

It was a bigger deal when we could have added someone like DFS (theoretically)

Pretty much confirms my thoughts.

So we were all excited over a KJ balloon, which did not happen.

He got signed for much less, and we have to lower our bar on what type of player we can potentially trade him for.

We would have to trade him plus 1 or 2 Vet min players who we probably really like and/or need...

Or just trade him for an 8M dollar player.  Nothing exciting. No significant final piece coming by way of the KJ contract.

Almost feels like- why even bother signing him again? Just release him and sign your vet min guys and be done with it.

I think we need to complete the picture at PF with Marcus Morris right now, and maybe the move would be to trade Oubre and KJ for a better wing?

major IST announcement

May be an image of basketball and text

I said the other day I’m not entirely sold that McCain makes it through the year. Because if you have KJ for $8 million and McCain for $4 million that can get you a $12 million player. And McCain has value that somebody as a first round pick, especially if he’s playing well as a rookie. It’s not because I want to trade McCain. It makes a lot of sende if you don’t want to give up a lot of future draft picks that you would give up a guy that you don’t know if he’s going to be part of your playoff rotation in the next two years that has value to somebody else that can just let him develop the way that he needs to. Do I think it’s likely? Probably not, but I wouldn’t rule it out entirely.

Id agree, except that this team doesnt really have any PGs.

Maxey isnt a true PG. Lowry is old and cant be counted on for much.

McCain isnt really a true PG either. But, hes basically part of the tiny group of players who can somewhat be considered as such.

Maybe if we can also sign Dinwiddie or Fultz on a min right now, then you can think about trading McCain down the line.

I’m not so sure the player they trade for at the deadline isn’t Point Guard type player. I think they’re gonna go into the season and see where their weaknesses and then see who’s available at the deadline to go after. I think ar the wings they are probably OK. They definitely need like a power forward but if you sign Marcus Morris, then it becomes more glaring that you probably need a Point Guard and that’s probably the direction they’re gonna go at the deadline.

yeah PF, and a true PG are the glaring holes.

They played all of last year without a PG so maybe theyre fine with that. Otherwise they should have held off on jumping the gun for Daryl's boy Eric Gordon and used the money for Tyus Jones.

Supposedly Embiid has been stripped of his Cameroonian citizenship.

This sucks.  I hope this doesn’t mess him up long term.

Shams Charania: Denver Nuggets No. 22 overall pick DaRon Holmes II has suffered a torn right Achilles tendon, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. He’s expected to miss the 2024-25 season. Devastating blow for one of the Nuggets’ promising young pieces. https://t.co/05iQQEAZYV

Not sure how we can offer a bigger contract.  Seems we can only offer veteran minimum.

Larger contract, no problem

Trent would be a good add at this point
