I do believe the majority of city folk are in support of this. They lack the perspective of the rest of the world outside their city.

So because some guy in Hazelton doesn't want to drive to a train station, kill the arena! Sorry bub, too many jobs at stake as well as the development of a critical part of center city. Like it or not, they are the Philadelphia 76ers, not the Hazelton 76ers

Amazing how this guy thinks its no problem to drive to the stadium, but impossible to drive to a train station. You just told me it didn't become a headache. Now you're telling me to drive an hour and a half to some ransom place with a train station that can connect to Philly, park my car there, Get on a train, or 2 or 3, and arrive to the game who knows how many hours later. I used to be able to drive directly there. Get in my car after the game and go directly home. 1 tank of gas. No train tickets. No transfers at various terminals, etc. It has definitely become a major headache with this plan.

Or Chester by Subaru park. Or anywhere that's not center city because that's stupid.

For that matter, you can drive to the arena if you want to. Do you realize how many times I came to downtown in the evening when I lived outside the city. Just stop all the bs.

You lived just outside the city. Of course you could. I live 2-2.5 hours away. And I looked in to the nearest train station that could get me to Philly. 1.5 hrs from me. And you think after a game I want to get on SEPTA, and connect to a train after that only to arrive some place still 1.5 hrs from home after a night time game? It's a huge inconvenience to half the fans in the arena every night.

September 19, 20241 yr Maybe they should move to Hazelton so HE can have the option to walk to every game and still find a way to complain. Melbourne's sports precinct is similar to Philly where a lot of the main stadiums are around each other and out of the CBD. You have the MCG, AAMI Stadium, Rod Laver Arena, Margaret Court Arena and John Cain Arena all super close to each other. The parking situation is a disaster with barely any parking, a ton of traffic on the main road to get there, but it's easily accessible by train/tram. I park at a station around 5 stops from the Stadium and catch the train to and from. It's about a 40 minute walk from the MCG to Melbourne Central which is supposed to be the middle of the CBD or you can walk to any of the train stations which are about a 5 minute walk and get there quickly. There is a Stadium in the Docklands (Marvel Stadium) which is in the a-hole of the CBD. The main station for regional transport is basically connected to the stadium and there are a bunch of car parks including one under the stadium for drivers. Traffic is crap if you're fighting peak hour on a Friday. The thing was built there because it was a dead part of the city and they hoped it would bring life. What they didn't bank on is the atmosphere is crap, it can be a pain to get to and the areas around there are still dead. This should be a case study around the world of what not to do So while the idea is fine in theory, it may not be as much of a success as they hope to the surrounding areas

Is not going to be as great as they expect. Accessibility is worse, and people won't really be shielding their whole day in the area. It would be better if they moved it to hazleton. And, you should have took the train in to Philly from Australia when you went. Why didn't you think of that? It's so easy and so much better!

The team is also the Philadelphia 76ers, not the Hazelton 76ers. They're going to cater to the fans in the city and the surrounding areas, not people that live 2 hours from the city. If there is a train line there that would be the easiest access to the new arena and is more than enough

They're not going this to cater to the fans in the city either. Also, their fans from outside the city far outnumber their fans from inside the city so it's not smart to inconvenience such a larger group. Fans in the city can easily get to the stadium whether it's where it is now, down town, or anywhere else in the general area.

September 20, 20241 yr I get the reactions from everyone that is against this and Kelce not liking the Sixers tactics is fine but the reality is this isn't happening in a vacuum. The whole reason this is necessary is because of the oversized influence Comcast has in the city's development, especially in the S Philly sports complex. A lot of the push back is funded and amplified by comcast because they don't want any competition and want to continue to reap the majority of the peripheral benefits of every team in the city by monopolizing development in that area. I'm not a fan of Harris but the fact that anyone had both the money and the long term patience to buy the team and wait through the horseshit sweetheart deals that comcast gave itself for the both the Sixers TV contract and lease at the WF Center has been fortunate. The NBA should have squashed that nonsense back then but didn't. I agree with @Procus and think this is actually a surprisingly forward thinking development decision for the city.
September 20, 20241 yr Quote Embiid will decline his $59 million player option for the 2026-27 season and sign the new, three-year extension. He will earn $69 million in the final year of the new deal. His career earnings will swell to $514.8 million with the new agreement, fourth highest in NBA history behind LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Paul George.
