The franchise player only shows up for work a quarter of the time; why should the fans be expected to be more committed?

I would agree with you after hearing him say that. But If that’s the case, then why the hell were they trying to get pg in a sign and trade during the offseason? They were still gonna have to pay him something significant just not a max.

They got to watch him this year be a pile of crap lol

Yeah.

I dont agree on Maxey being over-rated. But we sure can say that this season so far has been a disappointment for him.

To your point about the true PG, I think the NBA has gone away from that.

Looking at the past 5 NBA champions, you have Boston. Their strength is not at the PG position. Denver, Jamal Murray not really a true PG. Warriors of course have Steph so theres a PG. Bucks are not lead by a PG, and the Lakers, not lead by a PG.

The great passing PG era is pretty long in the past now. Think about the early 2000s where we had Nash, Kidd, prime Chris Paul, Billups, Rondo, Jason Williams, Daron Williams, Baron Davis, Westbrook.

A few of those guys are still hanging on, super old. But the PG position as a whole is not like that anymore because team basketball is not being played. Its all ISOs and pick and rolls. No ball movement with structured offenses.

yeah...i'm not even talking about old school, pass-first pg's like that. i'm talking about guys who can create open looks & easy shots for their teammates. look at denver...it doesn't even have to be a pg.

anyway, maxey doesn't do that. whether mccain can remains to be seen.

Did you watch any of McCain? He was doing that with ease as soon as he stepped on the floor as a rookie. He also has tight handles, probably the best dribbler on the team.

mccain is 7th on the team in assists per 36...he's even behind embiid (a terrible passer), dowtin, & reggie jackson.  he looked good on offense but wasn't exactly dealing out there. i hope he can improve on that though.

You need to watch better. F the stats.

  if your feels say mccain was finding open looks for teammates, than dammit...it must be true.

If McCain plays 35 mpg next year, he will average 7 assists a game.

hopefully.

he was only at 2.6 assists per game in 25.7 mpg this season...so he has some work to do.

During the time McCain was healthy,  there was no one in the floor who could make a shot.  Remember he only started being major minutes because of injuries.  The team was a mess. He was the only positive thing on the team to watch.

Just having a healthy roster will boost his assist numbers a bit.

I get it,  he's not a distributing PG. At least not yet.  But without a bit of development,  his numbers would increase with talent alongside him.

It be happy with about 5 in year 2.

Look how long it's taking Maxey to develop that part of his game.

I don’t see his game similar to Maxey’s at all. They are both guards that are short, it ends there. His basketball IQ is much higher.

Maxey needs speed and space to go around defenders. Then he uses his athleticism to finish or he shoots the 3, once in a while mid range. He doesn’t have great vision and he doesn’t look up very much while dribbling or driving.

McCain has much better vision and is a better dribbler. He doesn’t need speed, he uses his body like Brunson and his lower frame to power people or get into position. He dribbles with his head up and finds guys that are open.

Thats why think they will be a great pair as long as the other 3 guys are long enough.

7 is a crazy number. LaVine and Donovan Mitchell are at 4.5 a game and that would be great. His usage rate won't be that high next year if everyone is healthy.

This is the kid you would pair with Maxey if sucked enough for a top 6 pick. I think he goes top 3 though and 4 at lowest

No wonder we traded him

Everyone won’t be healthy, it’s the Sixers.

So it's his knee again?

Apparently was "almost ready" to come back from the foot but now has more swelling in the knee.

Amazing,  that the knee still swells when he's not playing.  Which means,  he's cooked.

Giving him the extension in September knowing full well of this issue is beyond incompetence.

Team is Fed until 28/29 but more than likely 29/30 because Embiid is picking up that player option worth 70 million. The rest of the decade is probably a wash for the Sixers if you want to be fully honest.

You just can't have bad contracts on the books with this new CBA.

he should retire. idk if that helps with the cap at all...but dude obviously can't play anymore.

We need another amnesty clause like back in the Brand days to save us.

His first contact extension had an injury clause in it to protect the team.

I haven't heard of it in his successive 2 extensions.  Maybe our reporters can look in to that considering the team knew about the extent of his knee condition before this extension was given.  Hopefully they put something in this one again.
