July 9Jul 9 "The 5 most underrated moves of the NBA offseason" https://thescore.com/nba/news/330982776ers sign Jabari Walker to 2-way contractCameron Browne / NBA / Getty ImagesWalker having to settle for a two-way contract was one of the most stunning results of the offseason for those who've paid attention to the 22-year-old forward. A 2022 second-round pick, Walker carved out a decent role off the bench for a vastly improved Trail Blazers team down the stretch. He's a good rebounder with a great motor and a willingness to do the dirty work, and his shooting has also started to pop. He shot 45.5% on corner threes and 38.9% overall from deep in 2024-25, albeit in a small sample. Don't be surprised if Walker spends more time as a 3-and-D role player off the Sixers' bench than he does in the G League.

They were tanking. But, Grimes needs to improve on defense.

Teams tank when they roll out worse players, not just not play defense.
July 10Jul 10 📈 OutlookGrimes is viewed as a high-ceiling, low-floor prospect among shooting guards. If his scoring surge continues and he improves playmaking, he could leap into the tier of elite two-way guards. But if the hot streak fades, he may settle back into a 3-and-D role.Want to explore how his defensive metrics compare to someone like Jrue Holiday or Marcus Smart? Edit in a pageyes, but why them?Great question. Jrue Holiday and Marcus Smart are often used as benchmarks for elite guard defenders because they represent two distinct defensive archetypes:🧠 Why Scouts Compare Grimes to Holiday & SmartJrue Holiday is the gold standard for man-to-man defense. He’s known for locking down elite scorers in isolation, using strength, footwork, and anticipation. Players like Damian Lillard and Kevin Durant have called him the toughest guard defender they’ve faced.Marcus Smart, on the other hand, is the prototype for team defense and versatility. He’s a vocal leader, excels in help coverage, and was the first guard in 25 years to win Defensive Player of the Year. His ability to rotate, take charges, and disrupt passing lanes makes him a defensive quarterback.🔍 Why Grimes Fits in That ConversationMatchup difficulty: Grimes led the league in guarding top offensive threats—just like Holiday and Smart routinely do.On-ball tenacity: He held stars like Donovan Mitchell and Jimmy Butler to under 30% shooting, which is rare for a young guard.Defensive versatility: Like Smart, Grimes can switch across 1–3 positions and thrives in both man and help schemes. So while Grimes hasn’t reached their level yet, scouts use Holiday and Smart as reference points to evaluate his ceiling as a two-way guard. He’s got the tools—now it’s about consistency and impact over time._______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Thanks, CoPilot.

Grimes is better than nothing and give VJ and McCain more time to develop.Grimes is a SG, but can rotate to SF in some cases. Then either VJ or MCCain can pair with Maxey. But, you're okay if we sign him for 3 for $28mil?It will probably cost more, like 3 for $42mil up to 4 for $70.Just because we pay Embiid and PG too much money, doesn't mean we should go cheap on Grimes.

So avoid bad deals to pretend othewise
July 11Jul 11 Jameer Nelson is one of our many assistant GMs, and his son is on the Spurs summer league team. Thats how bad the 6ers suck. We have no summer guards other than Judah Mintz. And we couldnt get the son.
July 11Jul 11 Maxime Raynaud looked good so far for the Kings, but Sixers draft the 1990s big instead.

Sixers knew what they were getting into.Martin was signed through 27-28 season at $9mil/yr.We didn't trade Martin away just for our own 2nd rounder back and to let Grimes go in free agency.Unless you subscribe to the notion that we dumped Caleb Martin so we could tank.

But they traded legitimate assets for Jared Butler. Let him walk.Could have received legitimate assets for Yabu at the deadline. Didnt trade him. And then let him walk. They signed KJ to the magical balloon contract in order to trade him for someone better with a large salary, and then actually had to GIVE assets to get rid of him instead.Who knows! They may let Grimes walk.I hate how you cant sign and trade for a player or else hard cap. Because right now a trade for Kuminga who is in the same situation would make a lot of sense for us.
July 11Jul 11 Aside from game 1, Bona has not impressed.Broome has not impressed. A game like last night, where no one did anything on our team, youd expect the guy hyped as the best player in college backetball at times, to look good scoring for a bad team. Nope....Justin Edwards has done nothing.Team is in trouble. None of the young guys we are relying on look to be stepping up.

I don't think we have a legit point guard on that team. It's only summer ball.If I can lose interest and not give a hoot during the season, I guess I can do the same during the summer.

He shouldn’t be dribble iso’ing that often, unless it’s towards the end of the shot clock. Let him cut, slash, shoot.

July 11Jul 11 Author the summer league bums can barely get the ball past half court without turning it over…let alone get them into some sort of offense. brutal to watch.
