If harden is traded there’s a $5 mil trade kicker that actually bumps his cap number to close to $41 mil. Unsure how that works in but i know it was a huge issue with sixers/clippers deal if the clippers didn’t get the deal done before the start of new league year on July 1. If both teams are under the first apron then you can maneuver a lot more. If both teams are over the first apron or one team is then i think contracts have to match up to 110%. If both are over the second apron or one team then it has to be dollar for dollar. It’s why if the clippers really wanted James Harden they should’ve gotten a three done before free agency when the new CBA kicked in as they were over the second apron. Because it makes it much harder for them to make a deal with the Sixers as they are over the apron. I’d try to get dalen Terry in that bulls deal if possible. He’s a long wing that can defend and has the ability to run point. At Arizona he was point guard when kerr got hurt. What makes him so intriguing is he’s a really good passer and in college was a plus level defender. I don't believe a trade kicker adds to his salary but it's like a bonus to the player.
August 16, 20232 yr The trade to make is with the Thunder for Giddy, Dieng, Carson Wallace. I doubt they give up Chet of JDub but they have 35 picks. Rockets Top 4 protected in 24, Sixers Top 6 protected in 25, Clippers unprotected pick. Take on their expirings and reload with picks. Build around Giddey and Maxey and see if Ousmame Dieng develops as a wing. Embiid value is sky high and a few teams with the assets to make a move with him under contract for a few more years.

Derek Bodner in one of his podcast talked about or he had an article if he got traded to the clippers they wanted to get it done before the new CBA goes through because of matching salaries was harder once it set cause it was can be up to 125% before and after had to be dollar for dollar match and with the trade kicker they’d have to match 41 million dollar for dollar which was much harder. He may be wrong though. That’s what I was going off on was bodner’s assumption he made as to why the clippers really wanted to do it before the new CBA. I think they wanted to make it before the new cba anyways because they’re in the second apron they have to match dollar for dollar 35.6 million. So it’s much harder to do
August 16, 20232 yr it just hit me, im wondering if maxey turned down the extension because he wants to leave in fa? because i wouldnt want to play for a team that doesnt know how to bring in talent or attract players, i dont think he wants to be in the position and i dont blame him. probably the only reason he's staying is because he wants to show other teams that's he's the guy so he can get a bigger contract and a better team.

What i talked about on the previous page if you are going to trade embiid then you likely should just trade maxey too. You aren’t going to bring in another superstar or star in FA. You’d have to make a trade which is extremely difficult even with the package you get back from embiid. So if you bring maxey back as the main guy you likely playing in the play-in tournament. So out of reach of high end blue chip guys in the draft unless you get lucky and nail the draft. So after 2-3 years likely in purgatory and maxey wants to play for a championship level team.

As I recall, he didn't turn down an extension. He wasn't offered one yet.
August 17, 20232 yr Like i said harden and his agent live in a dreamworld where they still think harden is 2018 James harden.
August 17, 20232 yr Author yeah...it's such an honor to watch harden play basketball these days. pffffft.......

He didn't turn it down, they didn't offer it to him. If they sign him now, they can't sign a max free agent next off season when Harris comes off the books. If they wait, they can sign a max player, then immediately sign Maxey. Its not costing Maxey any money, and gives them the ability to sign a max free agent.

Tbh if they keep harden and Harris and let them expiring they have enough to sign a max player and a solid player (i forget who posted it on Twitter they technically could get close to a second max but it’s super unlikely ) then sign a solid player too. Than extend maxey. I think the bigger concern is if embiid asks to be dealt then sign maxey to his extension theres a chance he asks out in 2-3 years cause sixers haven’t proven to acquire another star via FA so would would have to be trade (possible with embiid return) or draft (sixers have drafted 1 superstar player with a ton of high picks and drafted along with developed 1 star outside of the top 8 of the draft). So really becomes a trade and who knows with this organization if they make a good One and if they do the player stays.
August 17, 20232 yr Maybe Morey can get a 4-5 team trade going with Harden and Dame in it and we can scrap some value/picks from a couple teams.
