They better follow the NHL and pick one or two locations and quarantine them then. Why they aren't doing this is baffling. Yes, a doctor for the NFL said it wasn't medically feasible, but obviously other doctors don't share that opinion if the NBA and NHL are doing it.

The thing is the NBA and NHL just roster size alone makes it a lot easier for them to pull this off. Take the NBA for example they have 22 teams located in one area there is about 15 players per team. So that's 330 players to deal with add coaches training and medical staff they are looking at 500 people.

Now you take all 32 NFL teams times their 53 man roster and you are looking at 1,700 just for players alone. Then add in coaches trainers medical staff and practice squads you are looking at trying to make it work with 2500 people into 1 or 2 spots.

It would definitely be much harder for the NFL to pull off what the NHL and NBA are doing.

I think they want to give it a go, and will try their best to get it done, but my gut says they get the season started, but another wave hits, and shuts things down again.

Was just coming to post the exact same.  They may start TC and not even get to the start of the regular season before shutting it all down again.

I think NFL starts the season. MLB is still going to play despite positive cases. NBA plans to restart the season in Orlando despite positive cases. So I think they will play, but I don't know if they will be able to go through a full season.

One guy on here said his resort alone in Orlando can handle that.

No.  Because states like Florida, California and Texas will ruin it for everyone.

Every team gets to determine if they have fans or not. Ravens already announced no season tickets will be sold and massive restrictions if any fans. Those states mentioned above can make it work by not having fans in the stadium and have strict guidelines on the players social life.

There will be a start to the 2020 season. Whether they finish it or delay it is another story.

I give it until week 9 or 10 before being shutdown.

I fully expect the NFL to go on with the regular season. There's too much money involved and pressure from the networks and their partners. Wouldn't be surprised to see the entire preseason cancelled.

American football is a true  FULL  CONTACT  sport.

Right, so here's the bigger question: is it possible to keep players, coaches and support staff safe?   We're talking about a huge number of people.  How long until somebody gets COVID?  How many will be infected?  Some of these guys are in the high risk categories - you want an older / overweight coach to die during the NFL season?

I don't think I'm being overly dramatic here.  The mortality for young healthy individuals is pretty low, but it's much higher for older people.  Andy Reid is 62 years old and probably morbidly obese which would put him in the high risk category.  There are others in this group, too.  Pete Carrol is 67.  Bill Bellichick is 66.

I don't see how there can be an NFL season.  Seriously hope I'm wrong because I love Eagles football and will miss it intensely.

Also very good points, we will see if they can even get through training camp and 1 preseason game first.

Nope.  Panicdemic will be too much.

Florida Dept of Medicine just got caught inflating positive Covid tests by over 90%. That's not just one hospital, it's the entire f'ing state. Ask yourself why are these people lying and why is the media complicit?

How about this? I don't really care until we get all this kneeling, different anthems, hatred stuff settled.

Its not a Florida thing. It was talked about a few weeks ago that the new tests are not very accurate. They give out a lot of false positives. Some states threw out millions of dollars in these tests because they were having a high rate of false positives. The problem started when the gov did not tests the tests being made by these companies. They wanted more testing done, faster results etc. These companies saw this a money maker and just produced crap.

There wont be a full season I imagine.

whatever...  I guess FL's highest level of deaths today isn't accurate?  give me a break

Update:

No fans in 2020.

"The Eagles are still going to be allowed to play, although without crowds. The Phillies will continue to be allowed to play, although without crowds,” Managing Director Brian Abernathy said.Abernathy said NFL guidelines also "remind teams that local authorities have the ability to ban fans, so I don’t expect any issues.”“We have been in communication with the Eagles. We have told them our expectations are that they don’t have fans,” Albernathy said.

Major update today that probably deserves it's own thread (h/t to the other one).

Anyway no fans at home games this year.  It's going to be a very strange season kids.

https://www.inquirer.com/health/coronavirus/live/coronavirus-covid-pa-nj-philadelphia-de-reopening-green-cases-testing-news-20200714.html

Asked about Eagles and other pro games, Health Commissioner Thomas Farley said the protocols for the major sports leagues "look pretty good” but having spectators would not be safe.”I do think that games can be played with the kind of safety precautions that they’re proposing. I do not think that they can have spectators at those games. There’s no way for them to be safe having a crowd there,” Farley said. "I can’t say what the plans are for the league, but from a safety perspective, they can play games but not [have] crowds.”

I posted this in another thread yesterday:

Here's how this thing looks to me: American football is a true  FULL  CONTACT  sport.  By the very definition of the play-by-play you have huge men breathing heavily, COUGHING, SNEEZING, SLOBBERING, burping & farting all over themselves in close contact. That environment is the  PERFECT  place for transmission of the coronavirus.  Any comparison to the various other pro sports is specious & irrelevant b/c they are  LIMITED  contact sports.

Unless some sort of preventative apparatus or medical intervention comes to the fore very quickly I don't see how they can proceed with any sort of season safely. The NFLPA is still arguing with the NFL on safety issues and it appears there'll be no easy solution:

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/07/13/nfl-nflpa-talks-proceed-as-expected-with-not-much-progress/

Many baseball players are opting not to play this year and you have to figure many upper tier NFL players will do the same which further dilutes the 'product' on the field.

Someone, anyone, feel free to say why you think any of that is wrong and convince me otherwise.

Football is the last pro sport I really care about . . . but it ain't looking good from where I sit.

So why not just play with full face shields?

Going to be really weird, and take away a big home field advantage for certain teams (Eagles are one for sure).

I really doubt there will be football this year.  I think this is just a precursor of what is coming.

Season??  Season??  (the new "playoffs??  playoffs??")

I want an NFL season, that's not to say that there should/will be one. If we're still in a basic 'lock down' situation when it comes time for football (or any sport), then the season probably needs to be cancelled.
