We just bought a brand new Pallisade, and we love it.  It's huge.  We had to upgrade from a smaller SUV.  With 2 daughters (2 years old and 7 weeks old), we could barely fit everything into it to drive to the beach.

jesus dude what are you bringing to the beach, a yurt?

We have an Explorer and recently went down to Brigantine for two weeks.  Not only did I have to fit in stuff for us, baby girl and our three dogs to get us through 2 weeks, we were also doing a remodel so I had to bring down tools, supplies and a bunch of stuff to decorate.

Had the Explorer FILLED to the brim for the trip down.  But I thinks to myself "well, we are going to go through the food we brought and the decorations are going in, so it should be a much easier pack for the way back.  Nope.  Still filled to the brim, somehow.

we have a Tiguan right now. nice vehicle, but it does not have the most cargo space. when we go to the mountains for a week (four people) we typical have to bring the hitch mount cargo carrier. even though i know how to tie things down, i am always a little nervous.

the family-mobile is a Honda Odyssey. it's pretty great, if you can get over the fact that it's a minivan  .. we have had no issues packing for any trips, and did a long road-trip across the country in it. it needed a good cleaning after but otherwise carried everything we needed and more.

(I personally drive a boring sedan)

I drove a Town and Country for quite a while. I miss having all that space sometimes.

it's worth noting my kids are past the pack-n-play and diaper stage. so all that excess crap you need for littlest ones I don't worry about.

that said, the minivan got us through three of those stages with space to spare. and if needed we can bus 8 people.

This thread keeps delivering

say what you will, I averaged 95mph in a minivan for long stretches between Texas/New Mexico/Arizona in the heat, and never had any issues. got about 18MPG at that speed.

this is with 5 passengers & their luggage. for the cross country trip we also had the Thule box on top.

They make minivans with plenty of power now. "Back in the day" they were absolute dogs lol.

We went to Cape Cod over the 4th, and the drive in was the worst traffic I've ever experienced.  I just want you to know that I thought about murdering every single person that either had a Thule on top, or a bike rack on the back

yeah, true.

the wife really wanted one. so we go out and check out cars, and I look at the specs - the Odyssey has a 280HP V6... I'm thinking "that can't be right."

we test drove it and I was really surprised how well it pulls.

to be sure, it's also a big car. the little 200HP coupe I had of course outperformed it. but the minivan had balls when it needed it, so I endorsed it for the wife (I was fighting with her about getting an AWD Forester).

it's not great in snow, but honestly we don't tend to go anywhere and snow tires make a huge difference.

I mean, you were the one going to Cape Cod for the 4th. it's kinda your fault when you really think about it.

Yeah, most do suck in the snow, I prefered my tiny FWD car to the van when it snowed.

The Outbacks is very good in off road conditions and snow (obviously very different vehicles). I've had to go through some "ish" 3 or 4 times since I've had it and it always impresses me.

Fun thread.  Useless facts from Di:

I knew every state capitol in the 4th grade.

I started driving before I was legal.  In those 47 years, I am currently driving my 6th car.  I drive them until the wheels fall off.  Had an inspection today and it was done by 10:30am.  Only needed wiper blades.

I think I'm on my 5th car in 26 years of driving.. I mostly drove them until the wheels fell off, but I drove a lot and very aggressively lol.

the only times I got a new vehicle when the old one was still fine was when I got my first real job and didn't want to drive a 13 year old sedan, and when I had to upgrade from a coupe to a dad-mobile.

I enjoy driving, and I get the impulse for some to get a new one every couple years, but it never made sense for me.

Next wheels will be a Q8, but probably have to buy the kid a car first….yuck

I love baby girl and want to give her everything, but that's where I'd put my foot down. Don't want her to turn into one of those weird Jeep fanboys.
