So was it cool when you guys were huddled around your black and white TVs to watch Neil climb down the ladder of the LM in real-time?

Born in the late 80s, but I lived in the sticks so it was antenna TV until the mid 90s

My grandfather was always ahead of his time; he got dial up in ‘94 on his Tandy 1000.

After that I didn’t see cable internet until I was already a man.

I was one of the first people in Jenkintown with Comcast cable services back in the 90s. At the office in Horsham, we had a T-1 line, yes, 1.5MB of screaming internet, which compared to a 33.6K modem, was pretty fast.

I used to drive home, download stuff to my Zip drive, then drive back to work, faster than they could download 1/4 of what I was getting.

We had a T1 in the computer lab at university, but if we wanted internet in the dorm we had to use our own dial-up modem. I had a 4800 baud clunker.

First thing I downloaded was a "hi-res" radio telescope image from NASA. It took a couple of days.

Second thing I downloaded was a picture of Bridget Fonda from a Usenet group.

Ah, the olden days. There was an FTP site at the University of Lille, in France, had quite a lovely image collection.

I can still see Stephanie Seymour, topless, in a mermaid tail, coming in line by line over dial up.

When my now 36 yr old son was around 4 or 5, I mentioned that we didn’t have remotes when I was a kid. He thought I was messing with him and looked at his mom for confirmation. He looked back and seriously asked me how we changed the channel.

We got our first color TV when I was 12. 3 VHF stations, 4 if PBS came in, ha ha. Plus another 3-5, depending upon how much static you could take

There was never a remote control in my parents house growing up. They didn't have an answering machine when I moved out.

Born in 77. Didn't have internet until I was about 20.

Every once in a while, one or two NY stations would come if the skies were clear and the antenna was pointed in the right direction.

That was always the best feeling. Catching twenty minutes of some strange station.

@Arthur Jackson what year were you born?

We had a box that rotated the antenna on the roof.  We could get NY stations to watch the horror flicks on their stations.

Other than that - Toaster like - three locals on VHF (4 if you count PBS) and three UHF stations

And it was very cool to watch the moon walk in real time...

My family had just moved to England for 3 years. I watched it on a tiny B&W TV in the temporary flat in London where we stayed until my parents found a house. That was a great time to be an American in England.

Holy ish guys, I was joking, but some of you actually did see it live. Respect, fam.

I don’t remember watching the first fake moon landing but do remember them rolling a tv into the classroom so we could watch some of the later fakes.

My first memory is my mom on the living room floor, on one knee, watching the news about the Kennedy assassination. She never watched TV during the day, called it the idiot box. I had no clue what was going on. I described the scene to my older sister, and she said it had to have been Kennedy.

Well, I was about 20 when you were conceived, so subtract nine months from your birthdate then just do the maths from there
