The problem isn't necessarily the author himself, the problem is the interpretation from his readers, especially those who have a more literal take on the passage and the book itself. The Bible has plenty of contradictions, but I'm told I'm not allowed to pick and choose what advice to take from the same people who would try to claim there are no examples of misogyny to be found within it.
