Sorry @Mike31mt, when I get rolling sometimes it takes on a life of its own.

As an olive branch, I'll post a Jesus fish... which is something we can both like because fish are our common ancestors.

Former Deacon Excommunicated After Son’s Sex Abuse by Another Priest

https://www.thedailybeast.com/former-deacon-excommunicated-after-sons-sex-abuse-by-another-priest

Quote

A former deacon was excommunicated from the Catholic Church after his son was sexually abused as a minor by a priest—a penalty the deacon says is meant to silence and punish him. Scott Peyton’s son first accused Father Michael Guidry of sexual abuse in 2018, which the priest confessed to before paying a settlement to the Peyton family. But they were shunned by the rest of the community, and after years of isolation, Peyton resigned as deacon in Dec. 2023 and his family joined an Anglican parish instead. Four months later, Bishop J. Douglas Deshotel of the Diocese of Lafayette told Peyton he’d been excommunicated. "I am aware that your family has suffered a trauma, but the answer does not lie in leaving the Most Holy Eucharist,” his letter read. Peyton slammed the bishop’s action as an attempt to silence him, because his family had become vocal supporters of a law supporting childhood sex abuse survivors who wanted to seek civil damages. Peyton said no clergy members in the diocese accused of sexual abuse had been excommunicated.

Sure, excommunicate the the father, and not the abuser.

The Catholic way.

Sinead was right

A friend of mine was one of the better sound engineers at live shows in the area. Every now and then, he would give out tickets to things. I saw Sinead at the Mann just after the SNL pope picture ripping.

It was a good show. DeBella on MMR tried to get everyone to wave US flags, and rip up pictures of her. Did not happen.

You can find legal, public domain pdf's of the Loeb library online. I think Archive.com has some older editions but not much has changed so they're still good. The "facing page" dual-language structure is a really great way to learn how to read it, but you'll have to introduce yourself to the alphabet first, which can be a bit daunting if you haven't taken any higher level math, which I have to presume you haven't, for obvious reasons.

Anyway, happy reading and let me know when you get to extant Koine manuscripts of the Septuagint! We have so much to discuss!

In other words, you know I'm right so you're going to skirt around an actual response

Good talk

You're not rolling at all.

You mentioned the trial of Socrates, for example.   How many accounts of this do we have? 1 or 2?  And by Socrates' students so I'm sure they didn't embellish at all.

How do you know it happened the way you think it happened?

But you'll take that as fact as compared to the Bible, with thousands of accounts and hundreds of years of historical scrutiny.

Again, atheists think they're smart because they sit in sewing circles and tell each other they are.  Outside of the sewing circle, where your assumptions are actually challenged, they don't hold up to the standard of the Bible

So much for my apology.

At least I got him to take a day or two to try and find out who Socrates was. I see that as progress.

If you found out there was no god, do you think you would all of the sudden have the desire to kill people?

Don't use the Socratic method... you'll just confuse him

Who said kill people?? You're taking it to the extreme to make your point.

If there is no afterlife, and we only need to act in accordance with what brings earthly rewards, then why care about others, why have empathy that you love to talk about?

It makes no logical sense, especially when confronted with a choice between helping others vs. yourself.

Donating to the poor, for example....by atheist logic, it would actually be much wiser to act for yourself and keep your whole paycheck, than to give some of it to others.  That's illogical, isnt it?

Murder is a universal wrong that most people agree is the opposite of being moral. If you think a person needs a god to show compassion and empathy for others, murder isn’t that much of a reach.

There is no such thing as atheist logic Mike. It’s simply a non-belief in a god. Empathy is a trait that transcends religion. I have seen animals display empathy.
