It’s odd how many people do not believe in a god, but for some reason won’t admit they are an atheist.

Eh, it's super regional and even varies quite a bit by the local church/priest. When my wife and I were looking to get married, the church I grew up going to was very traditionalist and strictly required a ton of documentation from both parties because they refused to marry anyone other than two Catholics who had received all sacraments. The one we ended up going with, which was 10 miles away, was completely different and only required proof of baptism (didn't need proof of first communion or confirmation) and only for one party because they allowed a Catholic to marry a non-Chirstian (let alone a non-Catholic). When we met with the priest, he was so much more welcoming and flexible. In his first homily, he was cracking jokes and told the story of the person stranded on the top of their house during a flood waiting to be saved by God (who sent a fireman, a boat, and a helicopter to save him.) They didn't pass around the donation baskets and simply had a donation box at the front of the church. I much preferred that style of Catholicism over the one I grew up in.

I definitely got lucky as my school, and the Priest at the school, were rather progressive and focused more on academic achievement. My sense has been that, for the most part, the Church has become less formal and dogmatic since Vatican II, but some parishes have kept the old ways.

I view being an atheist as definitively stating there is no God. I can't do that. I admit I simply don't know. To me, having no conviction on the existence of a deity is being agnostic.

As I've become a non-practicing Catholic, I don't feel any different than when I was practicing, which was basically most of my life. Almost 60 years, so I hope that's enough practicing.

I'm pretty sure when I go, I will be in the presence of loved ones that have gone before me and from there I trust I will have some sense of peace (or eternal life). Not so sure God will have time to come meet me.  That's for my family and others.  Kinda simple, but that's what I think may happen.  Watching a few folks die, there's someone that comes to them. I joke and tell people if Mr. Di is the first person I see, I am going to punch him square in the face.

that's where I am.

I don't have enough information to know definitively one way or the other, so I just try to live my life according to principles and values that I think are "good", and either way it goes when I'm dust at least I'll be able to live (or not) with myself.

Mine too, we have tons of them. They do make good decorations for the theater, bar and game room though.

I do plan on completely accepting God on my death bed...just in case.

May Kenny and Casey fortify their sibling bond over the warm glow of our devoted hearts. And may this entire airplane find safe passage and a bountiful life. Even the Jews. Amen.

    My favorite prayer. :D

As much as labels really matter, that is not what atheism really is. It’s about belief, you either believe in a god or you don’t. Gnosticism is about knowledge, you either think you know or you don’t. It’s an interesting subject to discuss occasionally, but I’m at the point that it really doesn’t matter whether there is a god or not. However we got here, we are here and life is easier if we are mind to another. At least outside of CVON.

This gave me goosebumps reading this. I had a buddy from high school and college pass away recently from colon cancer and will be going to visit his wife and daughter next month. Can't even imagine what they're going through, but I hope to see him and my family members again too when it's my time. One of my first memories as a kid was when we traveled to Italy and half of my family was already there waiting for us at the airport after we picked up our luggage. They were all lined up waving as soon as they saw us and I ran up and hugged my grandpa. There was a comedian who did a bit similar to this, but yeah I hope Heaven is exactly like that.

My mother in-law died just 3 weeks after Mr. Di.  I tried to get his siblings to not tell her that he passed as she was in a home with dementia, and my in laws aren't the smartest of people. I am not sure, but I don't think she knew.  Anyway, I figure he ran into his stepdad and he said, what are you doing here, where the heck is Shirley?  So, he had to turn around and come get her. That's how I dealt with that.  It was a little harder on his sibs though.

I'm completely open to the possibility of a higher power, I just doubt it resembles any of the religions deities at all.

I just counted the number of tracks attributed to House of Pain and, generously, it comes to about 50.

There are 150 Psalms, so it's not even close.

I see atheism as a belief that requires faith. I am agnostic, because the question can't be answered with any scientific certainty. Probably just semantics, but there it is.

My atheist friend get pissed off when I tell him this.

I would go the route vikas suggested on my deathbed, but I'm concerned that it'll piss off the God of some prophet from thousands of years ago that happened to be correct, but had worse marketing.

If there is a higher power, I doubt mankind has even gotten a glimpse of it, or could even comprehend it if they did.

Do you think that Jesus Christ cares at all?

He said rhymes, not tracks. So you have to count all the two line rhymes in every song. I expect a full report posted by the end of the week.

yeah, so put on your sheet kickers, and kick some sheet !

"Technically, an atheist is someone who doesn’t believe in a god, while an agnostic is someone who doesn’t believe it’s possible to know for sure that a god exists. It’s possible to be both—an agnostic atheist doesn’t believe but also doesn’t think we can ever know whether a god exists. A gnostic atheist, on the other hand, believes with certainty that a god does not exist.”
