(yes, that rhymed) https://www.openbible.info/topics/left_hand The Bible does not call left-handedness a sin. Most references are in comparison with the right hand, which is the top position next to the king. Actually it has some positive things to say: Proverbs 3:16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Judges 3:15 Then the people of Israel cried out to the Lord, and the Lord raised up for them a deliverer, Ehud, the son of Gera, the Benjaminite, a left-handed man. The people of Israel sent tribute by him to Eglon the king of Moab. Judges 20:16 Among all these were 700 chosen men who were left-handed; every one could sling a stone at a hair and not miss. Not bad for one of those lefty freaks.

I did Catholic school in the 70s, and they were still beating it out of left handers. I just assumed it was true. Mom, brother and my oldest daughter are all lefties.

Yes, I caused a minor Armageddon, when a Mad magazine was found in my book bag hanging in the coat room. They called my parents in, said I had pornography, and what were they going to do about it. I was suspended and my parents took me home. Because I brought a comic to school to lend to a friend.

Not sure if it has origins in the bible, but at least in Itailan religion-based culture, left-handedness was associated with evil. My uncle was ambidextrous and started to become left-hand dominant as a toddler until my grandma forced him to learn to use his right-hand exclusively. (Though she may have been onto something because he turned out to be quite the a-hole later in life!) Anyways, you can also find roots in the language itself, as the word for left is sinistra which shares its origin with the word sinister in Latin. Likewise, the word for right is destra which also means proper or correct. (This double meaning survived in germanic languages too just like it does in English.)

I once had a left-hand page a day calendar with facts and trivia. That is one of the things, a lot of cultures have beliefs that the left hand is evil or cursed. Also people are born almost 50/50 left and right but so many parents force kids to be right handed thinking it's wrong. More people would be left-handed if allowed. Those kids often end up being strong with both hands for that reason.
April 18, 20241 yr I've never seen any literature indicating that right-handed dominance is a social construct. Infants are often ambidextrous.
