Bradford was never leading us to the Super Bowl. Had he remained with us as the #2 behind Carson and Carson goes down vs. the Rams and Bradford comes in for the rest of the run, he doesn't do what Nick did. That's a near 100% guarantee. So ANY positive plays that we got from Barnett in 2017, was 'free money' and while I understand and agree with disappointment over him not contributing more in the long run, we still got that 'free money' and spent it on a Lombardi Trophy. 100% worth the price we 'paid' (Bradford) for him! 6 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

We had a surplus on the D-line this year and so far nobody is out for the season. He was expendable. I'm not completely sure of the cap ramifications by releasing him. It would be nice if we could bolster LB depth by bringing in Leonard. Then it would at least feel like a trade of sorts. I'm never a fan of releasing players just to release them so hopefully we can make good use of the roster spot. I kind of expect Gannon to be interested in him now that he's available. I don't think he'll be jobless very long. He may just need to clear waivers if teams don't like his current contract structure. He could end up staying in the NFC East as well. A huge part of drafting successfully is not only finding talented players but those that fit your scheme/system. I agree that players like Douglas have proven to be good players elsewhere ... but I don't think he (or some of the others) were a good fit for our system.
