Don't be surprised after all the smoke and dust clears that Frank Reich comes back to the Eagles as OC, and somebody like Ron Rivera as DC.  Two grown up former head coaches who have had their share of success re-join the Eagles.

Exactly what I was saying (about Reich), and I hope that comes to fruition.

Maybe retool, get better assistants, Frank Reich is out there, might he be good as an OC/Assistant HC?

Rivera crossed my mind, but only briefly. I wish there was a Jim Johnson or Bud Carson out there that we could tap and rely on for a good long run.

Why is he still HC? My god this is such a joke. I’ve never been so embarrassed and ashamed to be an eagles fan. And the next 12 months are going to be such a waste of freaking time.

Please hit fast forward to this time next year.

I don't think Rivera is going to get another go anytime soon, so this would probably be a good move. I also think the coaching network he brings is a tremendous asset, especially with the relation to Cam and the start of the developing Hybrid QBs era. The expectations are higher now, but a lot of the roots of that movement can be traced back to Newton.

I wouldn't mind that tbh

Totally agree. We be right here next year minus all the good options.

Honestly I mean if they bring back Sirianni and BJ then I may just be done with this team until next year. If they bring back Sirianni alone then I’m still going to find it hard to get excited for the season.

Doug was an amazing obscure hire like Sirianni was. But hey if Sirianni was the guy then why did it take so long to hire him? They went through so many interviews to get to Sirianni. It takes them forever to make moves. I’ll add for as much success as they have had since Reid their coaches have been like a carousel through this place. If Doug were so great in their eyes he’d still be here. These coaches that they’re hiring seem to have a very short shelf life. They’re burning out way too quickly.

Keep in mind, Doug and Nick had the great fortune of having a QB on a cost controlled rookie contract who both played at near MVP levels at the same time that Howie signed/traded for a bunch of good players, mostly to 1year deals. Both also had good choices for coordinators right out of the gate. All that allowed Doug and Nick to seem better than what they actually are, but once those 1 year deals went elsewhere, once coordinators left for HC jobs, and once the QB got the "2nd contract”, the coaches were proven to lack the capability to adjust and got exposed.

It’s why I have concerns going forward. Lurie got very fortunate with how things played out, but just like how the Birds were winning through 11 games, that way of doing business is not sustainable. I fear we’re going to see that exposed in the coming seasons.

That is exactly what needs to happen.  Sirianni needs seasoned coaches with a plethora of experience running their respective units and have demonstrated sustained success in doing so.  He also needs to allow them to have full control over running their units and just manage the team.  That could mean the difference between ending a 5 win team in 2024 and potentially remaining competitive (they were competitive the first 2/3 of the season ... not at all in that final 1/3 ... thinking competent coordinators could have helped keep this thing from completely derailing down that stretch). Obviously the moves Howie makes to address the roster are going to play a huge role in that too ... he had more misses than hits overall in 2023.

See I disagree here. He needs to go that’s what needs to happen. Bringing in experienced OCs because he’s incapable is one of the biggest reasons why he needs to go. It’s just furthering that he’s nothing but a cheerleader.

My response is taking into consideration Sirianni is staying.  The only way him staying will work is if ... (read rest of post).

Ok I take your point but I just don’t really see the point in taking that route. I do get what you are saying but if they need to bring in experienced coordinators because he’s not good enough then what does he add? This team was badly coached and prepared all year and that’s on him.

"Embarrassed and ashamed"?  You're "embarrassed and ashamed" that the Philadelphia Eagles haven't sacked their head coach?  You're face is red and you're uncomfortable showing your face in public, in England, because the Philadelphia Eagles haven't made a coaching change?

The only times you should ever be embarrassed and ashamed of a sports team you claim to support is if they have a senior figure at the club involved in a violent or sexual crime and don't immediately fire them, force a local council to spend public money to fund a new stadium even though they're a billion dollar business,  sue a charity / orphanage / homeless shelter into bankruptcy because they used a logo in a fundraising flyer without permission or change their name the Philadelphia Boners and unveil an all pink kit with a purple helmet, that's it, that's the complete list.

I'm embarrassed and ashamed on your behalf.

Did I say in public? No! You can still feel those things. You can still be embarrassed when your team gets humiliated and shows no fight and is the laughing stock of the NFL.

Well since it appears Siri is staying I'm on board if he brings in seasoned people like Reich as OC, and Ron Rivera as DC. No more first time coordinators because we just saw the results of that BS.

Lurie has to buy into guys like that. They are former Eagles coaches, but one has to wonder is Lurie trying to look backwards and does either guy want to be under Sirianni?

I know suddenly all the players were out there singing the praises of the HC, but when they had multiple chances to have his back against inferior opponents ( they themselves admitted were inferior) they came up really small. I don’t see how changing coordinators fixes many of the Eagles problems when most of them seem like fundamental mistakes from a lack of preparedness and accountability. Installing new offensive and defensive ideas, with little to no time to prepare and practice them will still result in guys running into one another, bad penalties, poor substitutions, running the wrong routes, missed tackles, and turnovers. All the crap we have witnessed all year. Changing coordinators, but keeping Sirianni fixes nothing.

It makes no difference in my mind either. And hey I may be wrong on that but I just don’t see it. Sirianni was unable to rally this team. He tried to change things but either didn’t or couldn’t. He isn’t the only problem but he’s a problem and a problem that needs to go.

Agreed.  Any coordinators like Reich and Rivera are not likely to be poached by other teams as HC candidates.

Absolutely

His play calling sucked before he handed that off to Steichen.  Don’t know why people thought taking it back from BJ would fix anything.  What he needs is a competent, creative offensive mind to run the offense (ditto on defense).  Let’s see who he and Howie end up hiring.

And if that OC is successful he will be hired as a HC and we will be right back to where we were. It make no sense to keep this idiot as HC.

Yep, next year has become a throw away year.

i see multiple posts about if nick stays then they should bring in Reich and Rivera and letting them do their own thing with their units. If that is the case, what exactly is Nick doing? culture? He couldn't even get them to play motivational football towards the end. Situational Football? Where was that last season? Nick has failed in the areas he will undertake as the figurehead while bringing in experienced OC/DC. so again..what is nick exactly doing and why do we need him and why do we think he will be successful at it given what happened at the end of the season?

If it's Reich - I doubt he'd be a HC candidate at this stage

I've heard he isn't interested. He gets his full pay from Carolina for the next 4 years and wants some time away. But yeah, he'd be the best choice for that reason.
