In 2022 under the coaching of Wilson (and Gannon who was also a DB coach previously), Slay and Bradberry had their best seasons. We had more interceptions and sacks defensively. I don't know if DK McDonald is an issue or not. But in 2023, the DBs did not respond as positively to the collective coaching as they did in 2022. There were a lot of factors, but the players just didn't play as well. I'm not so sure that's solely on Dennard though. It's not a surprise that when teams get more pressure/sacks on the QB, the DB's benefit from it. Our Dline struggled to get sacks/pressure all season and look how bad the secondary looked this year. Not to mention we also had young guys taking over and injuries as well. Baltimore gets a ton of sacks this season and now their DB's are good.
January 25, 20241 yr I'm good with Fangio running the D...he will likely be much better at maximizing the minimal talent we currently have. Bigger question will be who we bring in as the OC. This person needs to be a homerun and blend well with Hurts.

Bottom line though is that the guy is a damn good coach who will hold his players accountable. Big upgrade at DC.

Maybe the new OC wants a different WR or RB coach, but I don’t expect a complete overhaul like we should get on the defensive side. Did you hear Sirianni’s comment that this is "our offense?” He’s gone from saying it’s his offense to saying it’s our offense. Here’s the kicker. They don’t even have an OC yet! 😂🤣😂

I mean if you’re going to run his defense with a bunch of his clones, then it’s best to use the real guy if you can hire him.

January 25, 20241 yr Kellen Moore would be an excellent OC if he came here. Chargers lost too many key players to injuries this past season.

If he were so great in Dallas he would still be there. This guy doesn't move the needle for me. If you can't get Dak or Herbert to advance in the playoffs then what good are you? Also if I were Sirianni I would hate this move, because his offense is completely different, it would be obvious that it is different, and further show the Nick is only HC in name.

Great, Siri's dumpster fire offense is still in play Looks to me like they are just casting a wide net right now and any speculation as to who could "be in play" or be the lead candidate at this point is pure speculation. Judging by the comments made by both Howie and Sirianni yesterday it seems they want someone who has prior experience running an offense and can implement new ideas (Sirianni admitted the offense had gotten stale and that the new OC would be tasked in changing up the scheme).

Moore's offense has been very stale and predictable

It was a desperation move by Mike McCarthy because he was on the brink of being fired. Cowboys had (and still have) a lot of other issues that were covered up by their defense much of the season before the Packers stunned them in the Wild Card round. Moore was beset by a ton of injuries with the Chargers offense. They lost several key players and it didn't help matters.

January 25, 20241 yr Author People expecting Reich as the new OC can probably forget that. It has been reported that he is helping Howie identify candidates for that role (not being considered for it).
