Are you saying the headset communication between the QB or the Green Dot defender is only one way … from the sideline to the onfield player, but not from the onfield player to the sideline? That is news to me.

From my research I found it is 2 way communication.

What is a Helmet Radio?

A helmet radio is a communication device that is embedded in the helmet of NFL quarterbacks. This device allows them to communicate with their coaches and teammates without leaving the field. It consists of a microphone, earpiece, and a radio transmitter/receiver.

Where is the microphone on a QB? Inside their mouthpiece? I don't believe this is true. Show me a pic of a QB with a microphone on the field. I don't recall ever seeing one. I would think that would be a safety hazard

I didn't read the entire article, but I can easily see the microphone being very small and embedded in the helmet and/or face mask.

That is my understanding "Who wears headsets in the NFL?

Headsets in the NFL are restricted only to coaches so they can communicate with one player from both offense and defense on the field. However, player's speaker inside the helmet have only one way communication. The headset of coaches have a built-in microphone which allows them to talk directly to one offensive and defensive player on the field who. Since the NFL does not allow players to communicate back to their coaches, their helmets are not fitted with a headset. Rather, players are allowed to have a helmet equipped with a speaker but not a microphone. Usually, on the offense, it is the quarterback while on the defense, it is the middle or inside linebacker (via NFL.com)."

Thanks. That taught me something I didn’t know.

If it is there it could be like the microphone on a cell phone, flush with the interior surface of the helmet.

Kind of interesting(stupid) that various sites say various things. It makes me sick that places just write things they don't know(precision Guesswork) lol. Colleges are not allowed this communication, they have to use hand signals. Once this starts to appear at the college level we should see even more "NFL ready" recruits (if it ever happens). I would think any type microphone would be a safety hazard should it be jarred loose. I mean you could get one in an eye that ends your career. I also wrongfully assumed the speakers were in ear slots on helmets, but from what I have read those are in the back of the helmet. They must be good speakers to get that sound to their ear

I am still confused as to who can talk to the QB. It says "a coach on the sidelines". It doesn't specify the HC. So who actually calls in the plays, the HC on a relay from the OC or the OC directly(in our case, some teams the HC calls the plays)

So my belief is that Patullo calls the plays in to Hurts with Siri communicating with Patullo when needed. So once again in Hams example I think Patullo said to Siri "how about the dagger here?" and Siri said "just call it" That is my understanding. What say you?

It is just that … fun. Ham even has been participating and twice gotten his Bonus prediction right. Getting the score right is a crap shoot, but getting the Bonus prediction right is quite a bit less random.

Just starting to feel semi-self after horrible pain Thur. Sept. 25 from gall stone/sludge blocking my bile duct and then E. Coli from my own waste. Pure Hell! The ER nurse told me the Dr. shot me up with double the dose of painkiller he normally gives. I had Endoscopy 9/27 and Laparoscopic gall bladder extraction on Sun. 9/28. My gallbladder was mutilated as the doc told me, it kept coming apart. He had to make 4 incisions. My stomach is like a golf course as the incisions are strategically placed, spaced, laced and paste. My anesthesiologist was a huge Eagles fan. There was only 1 OR running on Sun just for urgent procedures. He turned the game on and parked me right in front of the TV. I fist bumped him and said, "You da man doc!" lying in my bed prepped and waiting for my turn in the OR. He smiled from ear to ear lol. I kept him informed by yelling, "Eagles' TD doc!" across the room and he would yell back. I got to see the game to about mid 3rd quarter. I wasn't sure if I would make it, but I had OUTSTANDING doctors and nurses from Penn State health. I'm forever grateful for them.

Thank you for asking!

Good to have you back.....glad to hear you were taken care of well!! Go Birds!!!!

About 20 years go I went through something similar to what you just went through. Acute Pancreatitis that filled my body cavity with digestive juices from just below my lungs to just above my groin. In ICU for over two weeks on tube feeding while the fluid level in the body cavity slowly went down. Couldn't do surgery because the body fluids had softened up all the tissue and they wouldn't hold stitches or staples. You are right, the pain is pure hell. I'm so glad you made it through as well as you did. I know what you mean about the doctors and nurses.
