He’s a fun player to watch. Exciting with the ball in his hands.

Welp, that's what remains to be seen. Can he still do that at the NFL level? I think he can. I had him as the 1/2 top SLOT guys. He just needs to be reliable. He can play special teams as he grows. Paris will start,we all know that. Seems a common theme was bringing in guys that were good at their respective spots but also had ST experience. I thought that was good planning for these new rules(I already hate). But shows Howie is ahead of the curve. I don't like the new rules on paper.I suppose I need to see it happen live.

The top guy averaged less than 3.8 yards a carry....not good.  Yet still better than the weak teammate he beat out for the job.

Let's hope

I wonder if we’ll have two guys back to return KO or one?

So... with the rules....

Ball goes out of bounds.... get it at the 40.  Ball goes into the end zone...get it at the 30.

More importantly, I thought the rule is nobody moves until the ball is caught within the zone... so I'm trying to think what advantage would there be using 2 guys?  Especially if one of them can't move until the ball is caught?   I was under the impression that we had to use 1 returner with the other 10 lining up on the 25?

One or two returners are allowed to move

Is that the rule?

Yep

So with the rules...

1. A ball kicked into the end zone or out of it....results in a touchback to the 30 yard line.

2.  But a ball that lands in the "landing zone " between the 20 and the goal line and then proceeds to roll into the end zone... the touchback will be placed at the 20.

With that... and being that both guys lined up within the landing zone can move at any time.  I would think using 2 returners makes the most sense.

The kickoffs don't need hang time... they can line drive one that lands inside the 20 and goes into the end zone ... almost like scoring a goal in soccer... I would assume the idea is to protect against the touchback at the 20.   And also an advantage having a blocker or potential lateral that can move ASAP.

I imagine we see more kickoffs that are line drives just to make them more difficult to handle....especially without hang time being a benefit.

My thinking was along the lines of screwy weird quirky kicks that are hard to handle. Some kind of hard line drive being a real possibility.

So then do the guys lined up to block all hold their hands up to make this approach more difficult? Wonder what the rules are surrounding that?

Today’s OTA is open to the media. So we should get some inside intel this afternoon…stay tuned.

JJ Watt states he will return in an emergency situation for DeMeco Ryans

Ball needs to land inside the 20, so can't be too weird.

no, you have to be able to move and block the whole field, that's 50 yards across, why would you hold hands to make yourself cover less space?

Remember the situation.   kickoff team lined up on the 40... the receiving team has to be between the 30 and 35, can't move until the ball is caught... they are 25-30 yards away from the returner, why would you hold hands that far away?  from a rules perspective, wouldn't that be a wedge anyway???

Hold hands up high…to kill the line drive kick

Puts an emphasis on kickers that can kick "funky" balls with weird spins on them. We can even see "curve balls" like baseball

Weird too is that they either have to have "a play" picked out,or the guys at the line need to look back to see what the kicker has done. If they don't they won't know where the ball is and will need instant reaction times. I really think this new rules SUCKS,but I think every new rule SUCKS. Moving towards bubble ball as I said in '29. Moving away from a MANS game to the "man bun" game aka Wussieball
