Back tonight!

Well that was violent.

Some thoughts

Spoiler

It would have been a great 2nd to last episode of the previous season as I would have been in to the story. I can't have been the only one who spent time trying to remember who half the characters were (sheep stealer rider) and what the plot lines were for them, because I didn't rewatch any of the previous season. They could have just used Nettles from the book there.

I liked the dragon fight and the CGI. Was cool overall. The green people stuff was good. The High Towers coming in, nice (the main actor was mooted to be James Bond at one point and was great in a TV series over here called Happy Valley).

It just didn't whelm me enough.

Apparently the last 2 episodes didn't make it to the end last season so they're placed in this season

I don't know how to best quote/highlight a section of a spoiler. but how many black white haired adolescent girls have you seen in this series to not be able to remember who people are?!? The section of the video I set the below to start it is a great example from GoT of this -- early on we might not have remembered the names of the characters, but we knew who they were (in this case, the younger sister, betrothed to the the second son who got eaten by Vhagar at the end of Season 1)

And it makes sense. Not as a negative, but it felt a little disjointed starting where they did.

Its the way they ended the last season feeding into this one. I've not really thought deeply about the program or the characters in any way since the season 2 finished, and in a cast of thousands, the specific character wasn't initially memorable enough for me to recall - I know they changed who it was from the books for a new character but their name or past, not a scooby.

Will keep this vague. The weird lady that appeared post the defecation scene, no idea who she was until I watched a summary. And it made sense then with what will come.

The season finale of season 2 was kind of ok, not great, but not bad but moved things on. Look forward to season 3 starting next week

Spoiler

RIP Ser Simon Strong. RIP Otto Hightower. Good men caught in the Game of Thrones

For the messed up GoT world, yes, I think so. Perfect? Far from it. You can see Orwyle is a good man, but did some eh things too

He was a power hungry guy that pimped his daughter out to get power

Completely obvious that these two episodes were episodes 9-10 of season 2 - stupid way to start a season. It's all downhill from here for the Targaryens lol

Its what happened in Medieval England and still happens to this day in richer circles or other parts of the world. And you can see the same debate rage elsewhere

while the second most "powerful" person in the Realm, who is not supposed to be putting his own self-interest above the King's/Realm's. Treason and deserving of execution!

This dude has unmatched confidence roll

Spoiler

Episodes 1-3 was easily the best run this show has had, ep 3 was the best writing by a country mile. Then ep.4 reminds you just how bad this show usually is. Painfully bad Xena level bs without the self awareness.

Its been bugging me for a while about whio Rhaenyra reminds me of IRL. Its the ex UK PM Theresa "the Maybot" May. Talks like her, indecisive like her, can't lead, plummy Shires accent

The big positive so far is whoever casts the male Hightower leads (this time Ormund), they've found 2 really good actors. Can see why GRRM has disowned this series overall; way too varying quality wise.

Episode 3 was awesome. The uneasiness to Rhaenyra first days as queen all accompanied by a brilliant backing score that just amplified the whole sense of it all.

It will be interesting to see where Aegon's arc takes him

Aegon was rare bright spot in ep.4, but his arc is almost unwatchable with Larys Strong. What an abysmal actor and character.
