Was DeJean another Lurie pick (ala JJAW)?

It must have been Lurie pick. Because it doesn't make any sense to me to trade up for a safety, with the value of the safety position diminished and better safeties still available.

He is not a pure CB. He is not a pure safety. He is a hybrid between Strong safety and a slot CB. A role that Jenkins played. Very necessary in our case. However drafted above where i projected him at a great cost. Not happy about the cost of moving up. Gave up 66.4 points /a high 4th rounder just to get him. There were great players still available on the board at 50 and 53. Do not like or understand the purpose of moving up in this draft. Should have moved back in the second and picked up extra value, instead of loosing it if we wanted to get a 3rd rounder back. ?Many teams were moving up at the time, with so many defensive studs on the board.

And 8% of 4th round picks will barely be serviceable starters. If you're really worried about a 4th round pick to move up for a guy that was viewed as a consensus 1st round pick by most people than I don't know what to tell you

I think he fits at safety more but we shall see.

I think you are probably right there and I hope that’s how they plan to use him. I think he’s got good instincts that can be better used at S or even in the nickel. I think at outside CB he’d be found out.

Howie keeps trading picks. WTF.

Future third was a good trade with so many 4ths. They are loading on picks to trade up in future drafts

Sorry that  I do not have that WOW smile on my face as some people...I never saw him as a first rounder. I saw him as a Second rounder. I am OK with his selection. Would have not traded up and down as Howie did. Would have stayed at 50 and 53.

Excited they got this guy and I really hope he works out.

And they still traded up for a guy that wasn't going to be available at their next pick with Kool-Aid getting picked the very next pick. They liked him, they went and got him. They ended up trading down and out of the 4th multiple times, so you're complaining about the 'value' of a pick they were never going to use.

I see it a little differently. Let's agree to disagree. There were good experienced safeties and cornerbacks..as well as other positions available. Would have went in different direction and would not move up and down. But it is done and over..so let's move on.

I could have sworn I heard that the Eagles, coming into todays draft, only had 5 or 6 picks for next years draft. So, Howie is Howieing and adding 'draft capital'.

At the same time though, all of these picks can't make the roster.

They have four 5th round picks, I expect more trades

Yeah me too.

It's almost like they have to 'unload' some of this years picks for future picks.

He'll play Safety or Slot Corner. I want him in the middle of the field, ball hawking and getting INTs and pass breakups.

Bye Avonte.

Yeah really I never understood why they brought Maddox back.

I like Maddox, but I'd be surprised if he made the final 53. He gets injured too much and now there's a huge logjam at CB. He'll just be a camp body IMO.

I think he’ll make the 53 but with the other options we have at CB now we should be looking to move on from him. I think he’ll be on the roster this year in a back up role so we can transition away from him.

Are they going to sit both Mitchel and Dejean for a year? It wouldnt make much sense. Something has to give.

I think Bradberry is definitely cut or traded if possible to make room for Mitchell to start. They will do everything possible to get Cooper on the field and if he's balling out and Blankenship continues to be a liability in coverage then he might just be our new safety.

But you just KNEW that Howie's trading trigger finger was getting unbearably itchy:P.

DeJawn- a Philly guy all the way! 🤣

Blankenship was playing with a combination of an abysmal pressure group and sub-par cornerback play. Unlike with Gardner-Johnson, there wasn't a bunch of people around, including above average LBs to protect him. He did very well all things considered, especially for a still developing UDFA.

If we're talking liabilities, we should actually be worried about CJGJ against the run if he stays at safety, especially without TJ Edwards and Kyzir White to keep him clean. Especially considering Blankenship had like 1.7x the tackles CJGJ had the year prior (this is not a thumbs up for Blankenship, rather showing you just how many people are getting through the LBs). Not sure he's up to the task of a defense that lets that many people into the 3rd level. We upgraded the CB group significantly. The linebacker group? Not so much.

Ok...so obviously you didn't watch the 6 or so games last year where none of our secondary could cover. I don't care about giving up a third to go after a consensus first rounder.

I had him rated as a second rounder. 🙂

That still doesn't change the fact he is a liability in coverage. He was straight up getting lit up when he was responsible for giving help over the top. We saw that last year when we had all those guys you mentioned. I like him and I think he's a very hard worker and gives it everything he has but the fact is his abilities are limited. I don't overrate him like a lot of you guys do.

Well I’ma little shocked that Howie went up and got him. Can’t say I love what he gave up to do it but hey DeJean is a highly rated player. I’m just surprised Howie has gone DB back to back. Got to think DeJean is going to be a S?

Howie had to do it. It seemed like Packers were going to get him and CBs were starting to go off board starting with Eagles pick. It was a division rival (Commanders) they traded with. They probably commanded this draft compensation or not trade down.
