Parsons is going to go the FA route.

You seriously think they'd let Parsons go? He's one of their best players and he's young

He also said Mcnabb was the best QB in the NFL multiple times.  Can't fault a coach for propping up his guys, but it doesn't make him right.

Jason Avant's best season: 41 rec 587 yds, 3TD.  Or you could go with 52 rec, 679 yds, 1 TD.

Greg Ward best season: 53 rec, 419 yds, 6TD.

TBF, I was being snarky there.

DeVonta is happy playing opposite of AJ Brown. His college career was also playing with great WR’s. There’s nothing that would lead me to believe he cares about getting the most money imaginable. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know he would make more by waiting to agree to an extension. This was all by plan.

For some people, being happy in their job and being happy where they live, to an extent, overrides the financial rewards that could be gained by working/living elsewhere.  Equally, winning a SB could well be a bigger attraction than earning more money. so taking less to win the big one could factor into people's thinking.

It depends on what motivates the person.

But Smith did leave some meat on the bones, but being  a 3 year deal, does allow him to double dip into the market

Smith doesn’t seem like the guy who will have contract complaints. In the end, does $25m per year make any material difference to his life than $30m per year?  He and his family are set financially for multiple generations going forward.

The real difference between $25M and $30M per year has nothing to do with the money earned, but how that money is used.   If the money is properly invested, the difference is immaterial.   Equally, if the money is squandered on fast living and frivolousness, it doesn't matter how much you start with, you end up in the same place - bankrupt.

Quite a difference between 14.3 and 13.1 YPC and 7.9 YPC. And a lot of Avant's catches were for 1st downs.

Obviously, Avant was better.  But he really wasn’t that great.

For what he was... he was very very good.    For what Greg Ward was... he was very very JAG.

Avant played with Desean and Maclin.   He didn't need to stretch the field, he needed to work the middle of the field, where Desean was ineffective.  And he did that very well.  He needed to be that sure handed receiver that would be in the right place, at the right time, to keep the chains moving... and he did that very well.

First down %
Avant - 63%
Ward - 52%

For comparison purposes:
DeVonta Smith - 61%
AJ Brown - 71%

AND... unlike Ward who was at best a JAG as a ST player (his punt return ability was marred by his lack of confidence in making catches on the ball and letting it bounce far far too frequently... Avant was a Core 4 ST player who was named Captain because of his ST duties.

I'd love it if this team had a guy that they could count on like they counted on Avant during his time here as the #3.  No, he was never a guy you'd want to step in as a starter out wide in case of injury, but in the slot... he did his job very very well.  He played his role perfectly.   And I'd feel a lot better about our receiving corps if we had a guy like him right now.   I currently have zero confidence in any of the contenders to be the #3WR on the field.  Maybe one of them will prove me wrong.

So there actually is a world that people live in where they believe Greg Ward was a meaningful contributor

Led the team in receptions in 2020!   :flex:

Of course, since then he can't seem to catch a cold and is now gone.

Fangio plays his starters a lot, so there will probably be less of a rotation for the defense in 2024. This is coming off a year where people thought they played the starters too much, but at least they were physically prepped for it.

I think the complaints were more along the lines of let the rookies play more.  Cox had the most snaps on the d-line. His departure means we will see more of Davis and Carter.
