Outside of Philadelphia, yeah. But any Phillies fan that pays even a little attention knows how good\tough he is.

I think at times folks get too down on his offense when he struggles at the plate, because they don't appreciate how great he is defensively.  His offense is just a bonus.

Fair enough.  Things like taking the shot he did to save a run in extras last night or just in general how fast and balls on accurate he is trying to get people out at 2nd doesnt show up in the stat sheet.

Nah.  At least for me, the concern is Nick sticking his nose in too much.  I think everyone wants to see Moore run Moore's offense.   I want Nick drawing new flower pictures on the chalkboard talking about getting better under the soil, etc.  Stay out of the offensive meeting rooms.  Let Moore cook.

He's doing it because I said it was Nick's offense after the PC saying Nick is still the guy. I have no idea why he's repeatedly doing it though

That also doesn't include how well he does calling games.   He's a master back there making the calls for his pitchers.   And that aspect goes under the radar for so many fans that have never really understood the intricacies of the game.

Oh... and that pick on the double play ball in Wheeler's start with the bases loaded and no outs.   If he just corrals the ball and they get one out, that's considered a 'good' play.  But, instead, he scoops the ball like a first baseman, and then fires a bullet to first for the double play.   That doesn't show up either, but the difference between 2 outs and 2nd and 3rd is monumentally different from 1 out and bases still loaded.  It allows Wheeler to take a breath and just focus on getting the hitter out and forgetting completely about the runners.  And h got the K, iirc.  Huge moment in that game that flies under the radar for anyone that didn't watch the whole game.

I just think that it takes having played catcher or coached baseball to truly understand the importance of what you get from Realmuto every single day.  He's a better defensive player than Ruiz, and 10x the offensive player.   But, I still think that Ruiz is looked at more favorably than Realmuto.  Realmuto is easily the best catcher since Daulton to wear the pinstripes, and frankly, I'd put him over Daulton too.  Probably the best ever to play in this city.

As for this, don't disagree.  Chooch had that lovability factor.  Little quiet guy, underdog, etc among a team of all stars.  Definitely a fan favorite.  But if you ask the average Phillies fan who is better, not their favorite, I would imagine you would get 95% saying JT.

Correct.   They get it, no doubt.   And we wouldn't expect anything less from them.

Oh wait.... I forgot about Lance Parrish.  Realmuto might be the second best catcher in franchise history. .  IYKYK

That name triggered an oddly specific memory of watching the phillies game on a 13" TV in my grandfathers kitchen

Yeah... good times.    For me, I'll never forget him and the discussion of the 'great' Lance Parrish coming to Philly for the 1987 season was a part of the Mike Schmidt 500th home run video.  I'll never forget Lance Parrish, Glenn Wilson, Ron Stone (!), Darren Daulton got a brief cameo talking about investing his money!, John Russell, and of course, the greatest manager this team has ever seen... John Felske!  Not to mention, Lee Elia and Claude Osteen!

A starting CB trio or Ringo, Mitchell and DeJean inside in 2025 is going to be very good. All three have size, can play the run, are fast and have ball skills. They're all strong zone defenders too.

Just cut the Bradberry chord now. It's not going to happen.

How quickly folks forget Mike Lieberthal and Bob Boone.  Boone is likely in the Hall of Fame if not for playing at the same time as Johnny Bench, and Lieberthal was a better, more consistent offensive player than Daulton.

Eagles have their first OTA with their second starting today and y'all on here talking about baseball ...😒

Point taken.

I hear that Russian kid might be coming over sooner than expected and could be in the Flyers lineup next season.

Bob Boone was a pretty good catcher, but he was nowhere close to being a Hall of Famer.

Quick poll:

What is your favorite time of the sports calendar that doesn't include anything during the NFL season? So exclude September - February.

Mine would probably be April. NFL draft and NBA + NHL playoffs and also beginning of baseball.

It isn’t just defensively.  His game management … management of (communication with) his pitcher(s) is outstanding.

It gave Becton some reps at LG. That's a very good thing.
