I understand what you're saying... He's not lining up over NFL receivers, absolutely zero chance. 70-30 rusher-dropper, no more.

I'm sure he won't be over NFL WRs.  But he's just mote of a cover guy than a rusher right now if guy had to describe his strengths. He has more experience there.  He's more raw as a pass rusher at this point. Mostly just got by there with athleticism.

If you ignore Parker, Uzomah, and Clark, you get pretty much the same list plus Slay, Bradberry, and Barkley.

Yea, wasn’t trying to make a point. I just thought that grouping was odd.

I know WHY. I just think first off it’s not the most deserving. He was a fan favorite and I’ll even say an icon, but I don’t think he meets the criteria for no one to ever wear it again. He did have a 2-5 post season record after all.

But the silliest part to me is we are nearing on 30 years of no one else wearing it and it’s not even retired. Either give it out or just retire it. Makes no sense to me.

Fangio likes to blitz DBs off the edge and drop edge rushers, so it makes sense to draft a guy as an edge who has some ball skills as a former safety.

Also doesnt hurt that he has a freakish wing span.

Im not sure how much he'll play this year his pass rush is still pretty raw but if/when he puts it together he could be a real weapon out there on the edge.

Give it out.  Let a better player wear it.

Sure. There’s a difference though between being comfortable spot dropping like most 3-4 OLBs and being a guy who can cover TEs 1 on 1. I think people are expecting him to be much better in coverage than he really is, just because he’s a former safety.

Yup, hes the reason im an eagles fan but I agree, even though hes an icon im also not sure he meets the criteria either

It is curious that his number isnt retired but Lurie wont hand it out.

Weird stuff

Having said that I would have loved to have seen randall in todays wide open era.

He would kill dudes he was just so electric as a runner and so underrated as a passer.

Of all the qbs the eagles have ever had I think he was the most physically gifted.

Vick is up there but he was never the passer randall was, or punter😉

Yeah I dont think hell be covering anyone 1on1

More just dropping into a zone on blitzes.

He has the length and athleticism to cause some problems out there.

We'll see, like Howie said he has some freaky tools in his body so if they can develop those tools and he can put it together eagles could have gotten a steal.

I trust Fangio way more than the clowns last year, would be great if he pans out may take a bit of time though.

Poor guy lost his 89 and was given 41. It’s never been more over for someone.

I would like to see someone in #12. I'm not even sure what the point of them not giving it out is.

Could be argued that Brian Westbrook was a better all-around Eagle than Randall Cunningham ever was and they've handed out 36 to the most jaggiest jags of UDFA since he left.

9, 12, 25 should all be in rotation.

The Eagles need to change their retired number situation.

If they aren't giving out 25, what makes anyone think they will hand out 62, 91, 55 or 65? Soon enough there are going to be 16 numbers that are untouchable.

The coverage issue isn't as big a deal as being able to make tackles in space. If you can't tackle a rb 1 on 1, teams will figure that out pretty quickly.

Breaking up this crew would be a huge mistake

Perfect anology

He had inferior coaching at the collegiate level. He responded very well to the much better coaching at the Senior Bowl. He'll play edge for us, so he'll occasionally have some coverage responsibilities when he gets on the field, but he's no safety these days. Clearly he's raw, but he proved he's coachable.

Can’t give out 9 until they win another Super Bowl

If I were commissioner I’d mandate that all numbers be unretired and be the bad guy. Then institute a policy of 10-yr moratoriums only. No permanent retirement. It doesn’t work long term

Retiring numbers is dumb

I want Dejean to take Mccollum’s 36 if he’s permanently a FS

And I don’t. Would love for McCollum to progress to DB3 behind CJGJ and DeJean. But FS?    No such position. There is the high two, likely CJGJ and DeSean with possibly McCollum as the backup.  McCollum is obviously at risk from Brown for this "DB” position.  Blankenship is probably S3   Anything has to be better than the S play last year.
