Started watching this guy's film breakdowns and they have been pretty good so far. Here he looks at the issues in our defense last season, and there's a lot not to like.

He also did one on Jalyx Hunt which I think illustrates why the Eagles are intrigued and exactly how far he needs to go.

I think there's a lot to be excited about as we have the building blocks in place for a really good defense. But it's also clear that we may have to deal with some pretty significant growing pains along the way. I think a lot of people are in the "we just need better corners and everything will be okay" mindset, when the reality is that the defensive line had some major issues with our scheme, and those need to get better as well.

Since 2021, Jalen Carter is really the only "character" risk they took. They got A+ guys in Dickerson, Nolan Smith, Sydney Brown, Nakobe Dean, etc.

2020 & 2019 was ROUGH character wise: Reagor, Quez, Hightower, Dillard, JJAW, etc.

Football character matters.

Fortunately we replaced our mess of a D staff with one of the most experienced guys out there

Yup, coaching was a pretty big issue. Dropping Reddick and Sweat into coverage as much as we did was like handing opposing offenses free yards over and over. It's like the team had a defensive plan and was going to keep using it regardless of the outcome. It's not hard to see why players were checking out once the season started going south.

Reports that the NFL will buy an equity stake in ESPN to make it the official NFL Network and basically begin to dissolve the NFL Network. Not sure if it happens what will become of Daniel Jeremiah, Rapsheet, and NFL Red Zone, etc.

I don't think Hunt is ever going to be an elite pass rusher, but unlike someone from Michigan or Georgia, he's got a lot of upside once he gets into a pro training program.

Same with pro coaching, when you consider he's only been an edge rusher for two years at a small college, you can imagine how much his technique can improve with hard coaching.

But some perspective, he's a late 3rd rd pick (traded down twice then took a gamble on him), if he's merely a role player (rotate in at edge and some sub packages) that's still good value at that point in the draft - his upside is as a true 3-4 SOLB who can do everything at a high level as he fills out and learns how to play in the NFL.

Don't know why Desai didn't work out, might just be the Peter Principle, some are better assistants than coordinators, a lot of coordinators flop as HCs.

But Fangio probably sees the Eagles as his last stop, where he'll get the resources to recruit any assistants he wants and Howie has already showed he'll get him  the resources he needs to make his defense work. Howie's emphasis on youth this offseason suggests they see rebuilding this defense as a 2-3 year project - if Howie saw this season as "all in" he'd have traded for veterans instead of accumulating 2025 draft picks. So I see a big emphasis in camp on teaching and getting on the same page, rather than on immediate gratification (living with growing pains).

That being said, by the time you get to the playoffs, "rookies" have a full season under their belt and are often able to contribute, especially if they start the season on the bench and gradually increase PT and don't hit the rookie wall.

Redzone isn’t going anywhere…I have to think that has been very successful

Of the rumored Sixers targets to pair with Embiid and Maxey I rank them in the order of which I hope they end up getting as:

1. LeBron

2. Kevin Durant

3. Jimmy Butler

4. Paul George

5. Brandon Ingram

Wild card option of Steph Curry would probably take the #1 spot.  But since Embiid left Curry's shoe company I'm not thinking it's too realistic anymore.

KD never won anything pre or post Warriors. PG never won anything period. I can't stand Lebron but he should be the top target, followed by JImmy buckets (should have never left) and Ingram. Morey will no doubt screw this up though.

The deal with Yahoo is set. Consolidating shows makes sense. There’s too much coverage as it is. On Philly you have 10 guys writing the same article in 10 places

I’d add into those names, Donovan Mitchell is going to be mentioned if the cavs lose and he’s eventually leaving Cleveland. I don’t think it’s a great fit but I’d be surprised if the Sixers weren’t involved in that sweepstakes if he asks out. which reportedly is happening sometime over the next two years as he has a player option for 2025-26.

If you're ruling out KD and PG by that logic then I don't get why you don't also rule out Jimmy Butler and Ingram.  KD would be a great fit with Maxey and Embiid.  He's a stone cold sniper, one of the greatest shooters the game has ever seen.  Those three playing together would result in endless open looks for Durant and Maxey.

Make it worse. Redzone will just turn into 7 hours of sob stories…. Oh great play by the WR let’s spend 20 minutes telling you about how hard he had it growing up because his dad was in jail and his mom raised 17 kids.

Free agents I'm more interested in than the old fellas looking for one more payday that takes them to their late 30s:

OG- small forward

Gary Trent, Jr.- shooting guard

M. Wagner-  back up center

Tyus Jones-PG

Jimmy Butler carried a team of role players to the NBA finals. Ingram has never been surrounded with talent like Embiid and Maxey and his mid range game would be a great fit with them. Maybe it's more of a personal thing, but guys like Durant, Harden, and Kyrie who just jump from team to team constantly trying to assemble super teams are not guys I want on my team.

I'm down with Ingram.

Yep, he is a much better version of what Tobias Harris was supposed to be at his best (not the Tobias Harris we ended up with for the last few years).

Unfortunately don’t see Og leaving the Knicks. They gave up quickley for him. I’m guessing when they made that deal it was a given they were giving him a max or close to it when the season ended.

Agree, but the Sixer should try.  Maxey and Embiid are nice bait.

Ingram could end up just being another Tobias.  That Pelicans team has had some talent. Durant did go ring chase on the Warriors but he was also the best player on those teams.  He's not going to be the best player on the Sixers but his fit would be excellent with the Sixers.  He's a far better shooter than Ingram.  Has been a far better performer in the playoffs than Ingram.  If it's the 4th quarter of a playoff game and Embiid is gassed and Maxey isn't having it I would sure as hell trust Durant to be able to take over than I would Ingram.

It would be a waste of a max contract.

Lol, no. Ingram's worst years (since he entered his prime) are better than Tobias best years. I get someone wanting Durant over Ingram as he is the better player, but Ingram is on a different level than Tobias.

I would agree with you there however. OG is a nice player but he is more of a great role player and not a guy you give a max contract too. That would be another Tobias situation.

Don’t agree with RTK often but I’d take KD. He is a good fit with Embiid and Maxey. Not only that it lets you stagger lineups in the playoffs where Embiid is off the court you have enough scoring from him and Maxey or just him to be able to stay even or even outscore your opponent. I like Ingram but championship window with Embiid is right now. A concern i have with Ingram is how he adjusts to being in the role Tobias had as it seems. Tobias was god awful though. I don’t think Ingram would ever be that bad. It’s not as easy as Chris Bosh when with Lebron and Wade had to adjust and has talked about it. Ditto with Kevin love with Kyrie and Lebron. I doubt the suns unload KD though. I think they ride it out cause they’ll be stubborn and their owner won’t admit it’s not going to work til it’s too late
