Reading some of the Hurts comments and it made me wonder if he needs something to fight against to get the best out of himself.  He fought against being a  gadget QB, etc and got paid.  Now he's back to being questioned, the chip is back on his shouder

Can we hire this guy and just have him heckle him constantly?

If that's what it takes... what's stopping it from happening?

Yo man. Upset over that Euro loss? Defense fell asleep

Hurts wasn't ranked in the top 5 of NFC quarterbacks alone on this list. The outrage over that is coming soon.

Really excited to see Saquon in this offense. Hie has everything you want in an RB...vision, speed, agility, power, pass catching.  If they actually commit to the run, he will be a big weapon.

I’m hoping he has a similar impact that McCaffrey has had for SF when they traded for him. AJ and DeVonta will get theirs, but I really hope they run the offense through Saquon.

He could just be asked to read the Blog...

Not upset at all. Southgate is a limited manager whose career can be summed as basically won nothing and done nothing as a player or manager. His record against big teams is bad and his football is liking watching white paint dry.

I hope he finally leaves and we can get a manager whose tactical outlook is not stuck in 2004.

I think it was mostly coaching & play calling. We'll see how it goes with Moore.

It would make sense since he said he likes tough coaching. But I think that would also be a little too gimmicky at this level and not really a great attribute.

The craziest change to me that no one is talking about is how the Eagles pivoted from multiple team joint practices to just one single day against one team, period. Thats a pretty big change for some reason.

I get it’s a new offense and they likely don’t want to show their cards but it’s not like they went into the past joint practices saying "here’s our playbook!”

By year three, there was no mystery to their offense.  That was the problem.

There are teams running the same offense 3 years in a row with success. QB regressing played a large role in the failure.

Sure. But year one they still had multiple joint practices with the Patriots and Jets (who they were scheduled to play against in the regular season) is my point. That was before anyone knew what a Sirianni offense or Hurts even was. The sudden shift this year feels like a different reason.

And that had nothing to do with what they do or don't do in preseason, training camp or any of the rest of it, and everything to do with the fact that the coaching staff had no new ideas.

They guarded their playbook like Red Beaulieu clutching his legendary green notebook.

I don't think QB regression was the problem.  The offense couldn't adjust to blitzes last season.  It wasn't a regression issue. It wasn't like Hurts knew how to audible and call protections and then didn't.  I think there's a question as to whether Hurts lacks the skillset to make blitz adjustment calls and whether Hurts failed to make adjustments the schemed called for when facing a blitz. It's likely, however, that the OC and Sirianni did not have adequate adjustments in the scheme given how big the problem was.  I am sure part of the problem was with Hurts but part of the problem was the scheme.

yes. partly both. But the Hurts problem also leads to the scheme problem because he limits potential answers to the problem for coaches to use.

Maybe, but I am not sure what throws Hurts wouldn't be able to make to beat a blitz.   There were 3 problems with the offense last season against the blitz: 1) lack of motion, 2) lack of hot routes 3) underuse of RB's in passing game.  They seem like coaching issues more than QB issues.

they could easily be QB issues. Motion too advanced for him. Hot routes require reading defenses and fast processing. RPO used to take care of the issue, but teams learned to play those smarter and made Hurts more hesitant. Lack of RB in passing game is from his propensity to want to do everything himself. If he isnt getting passing yards, he wants rushing yards. Hes selfish.

Too early regular season prediction:

Hurts gets injured, precipitating a 20-plus page debate in the Blog about whether the OL (Jurgens, Steen missing blocks) or Hurts himself running into pressure is to blame.

I bet it has more to do with the 2nd day getting chippy/fights breaking out.

NFL coaches, execs, and scouts know:

Jalen Hurts lands outside the top 10 as execs, coaches, and scouts rank NFL's top QBs

Jalen Hurts is not feeling the love. A year after landing just outside the top five, the Eagles star has dropped tremendously in an ESPN ranking of the top ten quarterbacks in the NFL by executives, coaches, and scouts.

Voters provide their best 10 players at a position, then we compile the results and rank candidates based on number of top-10 votes, composite average and dozens of interviews, with research and film study help from ESPN NFL analyst Matt Bowen. In total, nearly 80 voters submitted a ballot on at least one position, and in many cases all positions. Additional voting and follow-up calls with those surveyed help us break any ties.

Hurts earned honorable mentions this summer, landing behind Aaron Rodgers, Dak Prescott, Justin Herbert, Jordan Love, and Brock Purdy, among others.

After a Year 3 star turn that garnered a Super Bowl appearance and a $255 million contract, Hurts' play dipped in 2023. His QBR ranking fell from fourth (68.3) to 12th (60.1). His 15 interceptions were so uncharacteristic that the total nearly matched that of his first three years combined (18). A knee injury that he tried his best to manage clearly affected him, according to several evaluators.

"He was playing hurt," an NFC executive said. "The Eagles tried to downplay that, but he didn't look right. He wasn't the same runner he was in the past, and passing the ball was tough for him." Added an AFC scout: "He'll always be in that 7-12 range, depending on how productive he is each year."

Running the offense through a RB has some major risks and limitations.

Klopp would make you world champs with that squad. Or at the very least it would be like watching colorful psychedelic paint never drying.
