I think Beilichick would be a bad choice.  He would probably bring McDaniels.  Lurie and Howie almost hired him.  I like the idea Vrabel only a little bit more than Belichick.  I tend to think that Sirianni may have more leeway this season than we think. If Howie pushed for the change at OC and Howie brought in the DC, why would the blame for a below expectation season fall only on Sirianni.  If the offense is inconsistent and the defense is mediocre, why would Lurie think Sirianni is the problem as it's not his offense or defense.  I am not saying that Lurie would blame Howie or that Howie would be on the hot seat, but they could just as easily change coordinators before they fire Sirianni this season.  Lurie is rational about these decisions.  He's only going to make a change if he thinks it helps fix the problem. There's a scenario where the team is below expectations and Siranni remains the coach.

I think there are 2 potential defensive minded coaches to replace Sirianni if they fire him after the next 2 seasons, Josh McDermott and Jim Schwartz.  I think that the appeal to them of a defensive coach would be that it allows Lurie and Howie to have more say in the offensive philosophy.

I’d be really surprised if Johnson and slowik weren’t two of the top candidates if sirianni was fired. Both are young and offensive minded. Done really good things with Goff and stroud. There’s a reason why Lurie hasn’t hired a defensive minded head coach since Ray Rhodes. Tbh i think belichick is likely the only one Lurie would do just because of his pedigree.

that said i tend to think sirianni is the coach in 2025 unless they don’t make the playoffs or they get there and get destroyed in the first round again.

Frankly if the giants suck this year and are like a 5-6 win team team i could see Mara just cleaning house and hiring belichick. And also breer in the interview says belichick still has a lot of fondness for the giants organization and even gets emotional about it. So i wouldn’t be shocked if he took that job. Especially cause defensively they have some nice pieces in Thibodeaux, Lawrence and burns to build around.

Another benefit would be that I don't think Mara would meddle with the "nuts and bolts" of the team, he would be more likely to give Belichick more free rein than Jeffrey and Howie. Unless Jeffrey and Howie were able to keep their hands off due to Belichick's reputation.

Tbh i think Mara is likely not thrilled with how the Giants offseason went. Based on his interaction on the show and talking about losing Barkley. I think he would be more motivated to go after belichick if things don’t go well this year. And allow belichick the power to do what he wants like you said

I don't know what to make of Vrabel as a HC. I always got the feeling he was a guy that always had his team prepared. I remember there was one game a few years ago, maybe someone here remembers it, where they had a slight lead at the very end of a game and he exploited a rule loophole at the end with taking penalties on 4th down on special teams to run out the clock. It might have even been against the Patriots and his former mentor in Belichick I can't remember. I remember being impressed when I was watching it thinking this is a guy who knows the rules inside and out.

And in general, even though they didn't win anything under him, they were really competitive with a meh QB and IMO not an elite roster. They had the best record in the AFC a few years ago with an old Tannehill and an offense that had like two weapons on the entire team--AJ Brown and Henry.

But NFL teams don't seem to value him or he'd have a job, and I could see him being a coach that clashes with ownership and is a hard head who wouldn't take crap from Howie or Lurie.

He gets the best out of his team IMO. He's probably very well respected around the league. Maybe he needed a year off? I'm not sure.

We burn down Broad Street again of they pull this crap.

no we dont. Its better than moving in to center city.

I think Vrabel is a good coach who got let down by a bad GM. He might not be great but you could do a lot worse.

I’d have to see what Vrabel can do in another stop before fairly evaluating him as a head coach.  I think a large portion of his success in TENN was a result of that division being so horrible in the post Andrew Luck space.  He usually had his defense geared up to play, and benching Mariota for Tannehill coupled with Derrick Henry supplanting Demarco Murray were solid decisions.

Lurie has been on the side of hiring an offensive minded coach.  On the other hand, Lurie and Howie have wanted a say in who the OC is for the last 2 head coaches.  My guess is that Sirianni gets another season too.

He kept Todd Downing as his OC when they were in the bottom of the League for offense.

It was an easy decision to bench Mariota for Tannehill.  Mariota was terrible.  The team's best season on offense was mostly because Henry was unstoppable.

What is Belichick's record without Brady at QB?  Nuff said.

I'd hire him as a DC but not a HC.

He reminds me of a Bizarro Doug Pederson in many ways

Have the Eagles ever let a HC go into a lame duck season? There were rumors of a Sirianni extension after the Hurts extension was done but I can't imagine that's on the table now. It doesn't feel like an Eagles thing to do to let him coach on the last year of his contract without some sort of new deal in place.

He won double-digit games as a HC with Matt Cassel and Mac Jones as his QBs.

Reporters: I can't believe Hurts said 95% of the offense is different, there's no way!

Also Reporters: Eagles new look offense is a whole new world, completely different, inventive, innovative, won't look anything like the offense you've seen the last few years, it's gonna be sickening, the league won't know what they're doing and need to catch up!

To be fair, that Matt Cassel team was absolutely loaded with talent, they had gone undefeated the season prior.

I tried watching but felt more stupid every five seconds. Considering where I started, that's a progression I can ill afford.

I can understand if Jeffrey wants to see which 2024 more closely resembles, 2022 or 2023 before extending Sirianni. If 2022 extend him, if 2023 Lurie doesn't have to pay him for multiple years to sit on his couch.
