This has the making of a player that will probably fizzle out and not get his pay day at the end

Tbh I thought all along just giving him more guaranteed money this year and giving him incentive/increase in pay would get him there. No one was ever going to give him 25 to 28 mil per based on how last season ended for him. So if you took what the Jets (or even if the Eagles were offering that) went to camp and busted it, had a good regular season you likely could’ve gotten something close to that in free agency or before the season ended in an extension.

The fact of the matter is with the Jets, they have enough defensive pieces that he could be a really good player and benefit from the pieces on that team to make his job easier. He could be the beneficiary of some of those other players on that defense It’s why I think the Jets would’ve done what they’re saying then gave him an extension if he took that defense to another level. Which I can’t say is impossible because the Jets defense was pretty damn good last year with no offense to help them.

imo one of two things is happening here. Reddick and his representation bullshitted the jets saying they would agree to the non-guarantee becoming guaranteed and the incentives to increase his salary and then reneged on it. Or this isn’t 100% accurate leak by the Jets. Because they could’ve re-worked his 2024 numbers at the time of that trade when he turned down the extension to smooth it over for the time being. then keep negotiating a contract extension throughout the course of the camps and season. I believe unless i missed it, his 2024 numbers/contract is still the same as it was when he was traded.

It's really not hard to get why so many people love Saquon.

He comes across pretty well, seems very down to earth with no diva

There were some here that didn't think Reddick wanted a new contract or works hold out and be unhappy if the Eagles kept him.

I don't know how anyone could think he didn't want a new contract.  He was pretty open about it as were the Eagles.  I think the question was whether the Eagles should have paid him and kept him on the roster.  The Eagles are gambling on Huff being able to replace Reddick.  I don't think Reddick would have taken the deal that they offered to Huff but I think there's a question as to whether they should have paid more money to Reddick to keep him.

At the beginning of the offseason, I thought the move was as you describe -- guarantee his 2024 comp, maybe add some through incentives, and throw in a no tag clause. When the Eagles dealt him, I assumed they had tried to make that offer, Reddick refused, and the Jets were prepared to give him what he wants. If these leaks are correct, then Reddick and his agent are basically playing hardball and trying to make the Jets look stupid for trading a 3rd round pick for a malcontent -- they want to leverage NY into giving him an extension. I doubt it works.

If he was never going to accept a modified 2024 deal with guaranteed money and incentives, then Howie was smart to trade him.

This also makes me think about comments from last year's collapse that players on defense were out for themselves. I thought that was directed at Sweat at first. I'm wondering if Reddick was more of a malcontent than we realized.

I’m reporting for training camp.

My issue with the jets is based off the report Reddick said he show up if they modified his 2024 deal and see if they’d negotiate the extension down the road during the season. However they never actually modified the deal. Usually that would happen at time of trade and has yet to actually occur (unless I’ve missed it). If I’m Reddick if they promised a modified contract and he agreed and they didn’t actually do it I’d probably be ticked off.

Yeah, the truth is likely somewhere in the middle. The Jets offered to guarantee this year, add some incentives, etc. and then didn't really hustle to get it done. Likely ticked off Reddick. Furthermore, guaranteeing 2024 by the Jets doesn't mean much since there was 0.0% chance he was getting released after they traded for him. Feels to me like Reddick and his agent figured they had the leverage to squeeze the Jets for more, and NY isn't going for it.

But it's just organizational malpractice by the Jets not to have a modified deal inked when the trade happened.

Go back and see who took plays off on run downs. Players feel they get paid for sacks, not for controlling the edge.

Selfish players sell out to pad their stats and ignore their responsibilities.

Yeah, I think guaranteeing was less of the issue than the incentives that he would get if he made certain achievements. I’m guessing the incentives probably weren’t supposed to be very difficult to achieve. So he can make extra money for 2024. But the fact that they got nothing done at the time of the trade seems like a bad move on the Jets with their leverage and also dragging that out didn’t help matters with reddick’s camp

Added 30 lbs of muscle?

It's probably already been mentioned, but Love holding out probably helps us. And the Packers, Cowboys and Niners fumbling their contract situations is certainly to our benefit.

Howie got this one right - if you have a guy mad about the money, either pay him or ship him out. No need for avoidable drama.

Oh yeah.  The Jets.  I rescind my question.

Also good news for us, Andre Dillard was the starting right tackle for the Packers at their opening practice. Their starter is expected back, but something worth keeping an eye on.

I haven't been shy to say I was a fan of his for years and hated it that he was drafted by the Giants.  I went to Whitehall and my mom works for the school district so I found out about this before he went to Penn State.

Penn State signee selflessly gave away gold medal at track meet

Penn State signee Saquon Barkley won the gold medal in the 100-meter finals of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Track and Field Championships last Wednesday, but what he did after the race was far more impressive.

Two hours after his race, Barkley, a Rivals four-star running back from Whitehall (Pa.) High School, gave his medal to a Rachel Panek, a sophomore hurdler from Saucon Valley High School, after a race she’d previously won had to be restarted due to a timing malfunction.

Quote

What happened to Panek before she came across Barkley could certainly be characterized as unfair, and it would be hard to find anybody at the two-day meet — that was a combined championship with Eastern Pennsylvania Conference and Colonial League athletes competing for medals at Whitehall's Zephyr Sports Complex — who felt particularly good about it.

The day's first race, the girls 100-meter hurdles, was stopped by officials when the timing system malfunctioned.

Each of the eight competitors appeared to finish the event at full speed, but the fully automatic clock never started when the starting gun sounded. A trackside official, acting on the timing issue, fired three shots into the air as the lead runners — Panek and Northwestern's Alexis Gawelko — crossed the seventh hurdle. Panek beat Gawelko to the line.

Because the timing system never started, there were no official times. (There was no backup timing system either, according to meet officials.)

After a "30-minute rest period,” the race was re-run. Panek, however, was competing in another event and was unable to take advantage of the rest period. When the race was officially run, Panek "clipped a hurdle” and finished eighth.

Barkley, who had never met Panek prior to the meet, saw what happened and decided that she deserved a medal, too.

"It's really hard to explain," Barkley told the Morning Call, "but something inside of me told me it'd be the right thing to do to give her my medal. Honestly, I love winning races and receiving medals, but I felt she deserved it, too. Everyone saw that girl win her race."

Panek said Barkley’s gesture was "one of the kindest thing’s anyone’s ever done” and that she’ll remember it "forever.”

"It’s not the fact that I didn’t get a medal or first place in the league that I’ll remember,” Panek said. "It’s that somebody noticed and that someone cared enough to make my day by giving me something that meant a lot to them. That’s what I’ll remember forever.”

Solid dude, really rooting for him to work here.

If you had to bet right now. Do the Eagles make a notable acquisition, either via signing or trade, before the season?

Doesn't have to be an elite player. Just for a name that is known. It could be a Thielen trade like Kempski threw out there. Could be Justin Simmons. Could be Ngakoue.
