Can't evaluate OL/DL until the pads come on.

Real training camp starts tomorrow.

I wonder if EJ Smith is going to be more of a full-time addition to Sheil's podcast.  I like EJ more than Solak.  I would guess it's something like PFF for Solak.  Sports media is so amorphous now and there are very few trained reporters.  I can't see Solak going somewhere where he actually would have to be a journalist for stories.  It's going to be something where he's just providing his opinion.

He’s returning to middle school.

Berman and Bo both think Becton is going to win the RG job.

What did we learn from Nick’s presser today.

The theme of this TC is Details and Toughness.   The word of the preseason is Relentless (or Nick is driving the NJ Turnpike and seeing that personal injury lawyers’ billboards.)

He did let one thing slip.  He referred to the #3 WR by committee. He quickly referenced Campbell, Wilson (who saw more reps with the ones) and Covey.  a Smith was an afterthought and I didn’t hear Ross mentioned.

Did talk about RBs as receivers. Was positive that he specifically said it needs to be more than check downs and screens.

Interesting Maddox’s referring to seeing more D. Smith in the slot.

Is that good or bad? Great for Smith but it could mean we have crap for depth

It seems to me that Steen should be the RG,  and Becton is the backup Tackle and Guard.  If Becton is the backup Tackle and Guard,  the Eagles really don't need 10 OL on the 53.  And my guess would be that Fred Johnson,  being older,  might not be grabbed by another team and could get to the practice squad.  The Eagles have more backup IOL than they need,  but they haven't seen Jurgens go out there in regular season games at Center and play great.  Yet.  I expect him to do that,  but he hasn't gone out there yet.  So,  there are a lot of Centers to do the job if Jurgens wasn't able to.  Jurgens will be able to do that,  but it's not a proven fact yet.

Also lets not forget the legend of Joe Ostman putting Mailata on ice skates everyday when it comes to DL vs OL non-padded drills

That's how I see it, it's what I like.  Campbell can take the top of the defense, like Quez but faster and generally better.   Wilson can block.  Covey similar to Campbell,  more quick than fast, can also throw and outside run.

If D Smith is playing slot,  they may be seeing D Smith as somewhat of a reliable possession guy, and Campbell as Z flanker with a lot of speed.

Moore is said to like things like motion and jet sweeps and things like that, and both Campbell and Covey would be good there.

I know it's just a simple drill, but I would expect the younger, superior athlete to beat BG. BG in the 3 point vs Nolan Smith in the 2 point. Similar technique.

Smith looks like a bad pick so far. Can't hit on all of them but what a shame

His record _without_ Brady is horrid.  Before and after.

The Pats should have convinced him to retire.  This whole looking for a new head coaching job at 72 is a little insane.

Which is why he won't go to a team that is years away and doesn't have a QB.

A HC position opens up where they have a good team and QB in place and ready to win now then Bill will get serious consideration.  Not saying he's a lock.

Imagine Cincy has another subpar year.  Maybe Zac Taylor gets canned and you have Joe Burrow and a good team.

Who knows Belichick might be on to Cincinnati........🤭

Sweet.  Let's start running some people over on both sides of the line with our new tank.  Love the long drives and ball control.

Apparently they didn't get the "practices don't matter" memo.

Pads haven't gone on yet, wait until they've played a couple exhibition games.

Tomorrow is the real test.......

Tomorrow is a trap practice. The whole team will be looking past it for Thursday nights open practice.

Who’s going to the practice….any bloggers?  I could see taking my son there if I was local… Just curious.  Instead on Thursday, I’ll be forced to watch the Bears play in the Hall of Fame game.  At least it’s football!

Becton has got zero work at RG when Steen has been available, it's writers looking for a camp battle to write about because all the big ticket skill positions are locked down.

I look at it like this, UDFA 8 starts in 5 years Fred Johnson has played back up Guard for three years out of five in the league, but with Steen and Johnson out, he got the nod at Tackle ahead of former top 15 pick at Tackle  Becton.

You may well be right but I'll ask you this: How many practices have you been to compared with Berman and Bo?

Then there's this from CBS Sports:

Mekhi Becton at RG

With Tyler Steen out (ankle), Becton is going to get the opportunity to seize the right guard spot. The Eagles had Becton line up with the first team at right guard, learning under offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland throughout the practice.

It's easy to see why the Eagles are intrigued with Becton moving inside. Becton has massive power in his arms, and the drive he can get with his legs can be a nightmare for any defensive tackle. The Eagles had Jalen Carter -- who has been dominating throughout camp -- against Becton in 11-on-11s in a true test of Becton's strength.

Becton neutralized Carter and held him off from getting to Jalen Hurts. This was Becton at his best, as the former first-round pick is still a work in progress as he learns the position. The Eagles have to like what they have seen from Becton thus far.

And this, from NBC Sports:

2. Some offensive depth chart notes:

• The most important development from Monday’s practice was probably that Mekhi Becton worked as the first-team right guard in place of Steen. It’s even more notable that he worked there despite the absence of Johnson. The Eagles could have just plugged Becton in at right tackle but it’s pretty clear they want to see him at right guard. He could be a very legitimate threat to Steen’s starting position.

First-team offensive line: Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, Becton, Fred Johnson

From a talent perspective, Becton makes sense at RG.  The Jets can't develop OL that consistently well in their recent history, so Stout must know there is potential for bigger growth from Becton as a player. so trying him there now in TC can help inform game activation decisions 4 or 5 months from now.

What an absolutely stupid rule.

Steen is hurt. I think this is a contest that will continue throughout camp.

For one thing, they have to decide if they want to extend Becton, and being able to play four positions certainly increases his value to them.

Another Eagle great hangs em up
