I still hate giving Dickerson that extension. Should have traded him.

Get rid of him

Just seems like to me the plan they have for him long term is Slay replacement and in the short term Nickel CB. He hasn't taken any first team outside CB reps I'm aware of and from what I've heard when he does play outside CB it's second team on Slays side only. He's getting first team Nickel reps though and I haven't heard anything about Maddox doing anything.

Maddox was in with the 1s at nickel at one point but yeah it mostly seems like Mitchell. Just trying to get the best talent on the field it seems like but I'm curious if Fangio has particular formation fits for all of these guys with some versatility

You can usually tell when a team is going to do an onside kick. Also they rarely seem to be successful anyway

Surprise on sides kicks have a much much higher rate of success than the obvious ones.    But, now you need to announce the intention?   There goes the surprise, and the rate of success will drop even lower.

And usually, the surprise ones would happen because astute ST coaches would notice players on the opposition front line that would turn too quickly to reach their blocking assignment location and would bail prematurely, leaving a clear vulnerability for the kicking team to exploit.

But... let's fundamentally change the game.    Next teams will have to declare whether they intend to pass the ball on a given play, or run the ball.  We wouldn't want to deceive anyone.

Suck on THAT Steelers coverage team

Looks like there were 40 attempts last season and 2 successful

Does this mean they scored on the 3rd down play?

How many were surprises, and how many were in 4th quarter desperation mode where everyone in the free world knew an onside kick was imminent?

Quinyon staring down AJ after back to back red zone breakups. Love to see it.

Onside kicks are usually last resorts. I'm not arguing for the change but you're acting as if they were successful before this change

Actually I think they became useless after the previous change years ago. I wouldn't care if they were removed and replaced with something else

Haven’t heard much about Huff or Hunt since very early on. Maybe I’ve missed some tweets.

That was the first highlight I included.

I haven’t really heard anything about Huff at all, besides Fangio saying he can’t handle being a 3 down player yet.

No.  I am adding that they are a part of the game, and teams have successfully used them in surprise situations as a part of the game strategy, not just last ditch efforts.   And the surprise ones, IIRC were successful more than half the time.   The desperation ones were always unsuccessful, because it wasn't a surprise and teams would put a special unit on the field with guys used to handling the ball... and were LOOKING for an onside kick, so they would have 10 guys right around the line to get the ball in order for the kicking team to recover.  On the flip side, the regular kick off return had a lot of LBs and DBs and sometimes even some OL or DL in various locations on the field, and would usually only have 5 or so guys near the 45 yard line.  And that teams taking advantage of that used to gain an edge.   The new rules eliminate even that possibility.

All good.   Up until the Philly Special, it might have been the most ballsy call in SB history... and frankly, even with the Philly Special, it could still be argued that it was the most ballsy.

Some people said Huff stood out after the first or second day of practice and really looked good. Haven't read anything good or bad since though.
