So no rust week 1?

Kellen Moore PC notes:

  • Hurts doing great, has command of the offense, shows leadership, good pre-snap reads
  • Cam doing a great job at Center, doing well in open space on designed QB runs and scrambles as well
  • Cam and Hurts calling line changes and audibles is a team effort, even other linemen contribute as they see different things
  • Nick has stepped back from offense, Moore said "when he's available, he's hoppin in there" to contribute
  • Wants to utilize core plays that worked well in the past and they are comfortable with but hide them in different presentations
  • High praise for Saquon, will be utilized all over the field

These parts I'm really happy about

Question: With Cover 6 against trips, the Cover 4 side of the field will be where the trips line up, right? Teams us trips not only to flood a zone and confuse defenses and set up natural rubs but also to force1 on 1 coverage to the other side. Am I right about this? Since Cover 6 converts to Cover 2 to the side of the single receiver, the Cover 2 adjustment of the safety to get over and provide deep help is a natural fit, right. And one more thing: does trips almost force Cover 6?

Am I making any sense at all?

You are making sense.  I think the Cover 2 side may be dictated if you have a superior CB that you want in man match, possibly MEG, on their best receiver, especially with teams with a true WR1 but not much behind him. But that leads to coverage variations much like down and distance can have an impact.  I am curious as to what he and Parker draw up.  It’s going to be fun with the All22 this year trying to figure out the coverage.  I figure I get that right about 50% of the time.

Jalen Hurts has never lost a week 1 game in his career.  7-2 in September in his career including 6-0 over thr past two seasons.

Technically a team can win with the QB still showing rust from not playing in preseason which is what I was referring to

In his 3 career week 1 starts Hurts is: 67% completion, 677 passing yards, 4 passing TDs, 0 interceptions, 189 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD and one fumble lost.

WR3 is a misnomer.  Nick referred to it as WR3 by committee.   Now someone needs to be next up.  Watkins was the one when AJ wasn’t available.

I agree. I think Howie wants a third "toppish” receiver sort of like Burrow enjoyed with Chase, Higgins, and Boyd.  It’s probably unrealistic to get a #2 two quality receiver as our #3, but yes… I bet he’s looking at it more from a ‘what if AJ or Smitty goes down for a few games’ point of view, more than just who is the third option in 11 personnel.  He’s not getting a player like that on cut down day.  it would have to come via trade at this point.

I don’t care if Hurts plays in preseason or not. I don’t expect the new Kellen Moore offense to be fully digested and run smoothly by the team for a few weeks into the season… at least.  Yes, they can still win games in the meantime. I expect them to start sort of sluggish but improve as a year goes on.  I don’t care about how good they have looked at camp. That’s encouraging as far as it goes, but it’s not real games.  I’d rather them start sluggish and finish strong than what we experienced last year.

Same goes for the defense.  I expect our defensive line to be a lot better than last year.  Perhaps not at first, but as the secondary gets better at what Fangio likes to do, the dline will get theirs.  Our defensive line had no time at all to get to the quarterback last year. The secondary made it all too easy for quick decisions for the QB.

If Fangio can give his defensive line just a half a second more time, with the secondary confusing the QB a bit, I think that will make a huge difference.

Had the radio on today, it sounds like Q.M. did well vs. A.J. Sounds promising.

I swear if Moore turns Hurts back into a MVP level QB, then we need to retain him no matter what.

Kick the Head Cheerleader aka the Head Coach to the curb if you have to.

1. Correct on Trips strategy to attack a defense.

2. Cover 4 side naturally inclines to the strong side or SS.
3. Trips won’t force a Cover 6, technically.  It forces underneath adjustments that could be considered a cover 3 (cover 8, cover 6 and cover 3 can all be considered different spots of the same leopard). Basically, the adjustments to the trip side are on the Trips side, the Strong Safety is the flat dropper. He aligns splitting the #2 and #3 receivers and works from the #2 Receiver to #1. The Inside Linebacker on the Trips Side drops on the #2 Receiver and walls an inside release. The Linebacker away from the trips drops to the hook zone and eyes up #3 or any crossing receivers that are coming to him.

So, we’re just canceling team meetings now? Great.

I don’t care. I’m bored and just want to start some crap. 😂

Starting to regret buying tickets to see the Phillies play the mariners on Friday, they can't buy a win right now

I have a bit different take.  I suspect the full Moore/Siriani playbook won’t be in play but Moore said something interesting about taking plays that worked and tweaking those a bit.  I suspect those will be fully in play and relatively well done.

The defense is a guess.  I do think it will be better coached. (Going into last season with Harper as the lead DB coach and no passing coordinator was nuts.). I really am excited about what Parker brings to the secondary and Hurtt to the DL.  There is some leadership at both with Graham and Slay, who seems to be enjoying the role of sage to the youngsters.

I do think the base secondary will gel pretty quickly as Slay knows all the others.  So does Blankenship so the only new wrinkle is Ringo and CJGJ’s familiarity.  Rodgers seems like he may make the team but unless he craps the bed, I think Ringo takes the other OCB slot.  That’s more familiarity than when Bradberry joined or when CJGJ joined. Wildcard is nickel. Maddox, Mitchell or Cooper? PS will provide some guidance there.

It doesn't matter how he starts a season...it is how he finishes the season....what are his combined stats for his last game of each season?

Well he made the shot so you have to!

High-stakes situation there for CJGJ. If he missed, he would have never heard the end of it.

Last game he played in for 2022 was one of the greatest Super Bowl performances ever for s QB

What's his record and combined stats for the last game of each season....it is not a complicated question....

He also fumbled off his thigh, untouched for a scoop and score

I won't look up his stats but he's 0-3 in his last game of the season. He's 12-8 his last 20 games including playoffs
