The last time I went to the Linc for the open practice it was an unmitigated disaster. None of the employees knew what sections were open and where fans could actually sit. If you asked "Can we go to the upper deck?”, you’d get yes and no answers from different employees. You’d hike up there and they’d tell you it’s closed. Freaking nightmare.

Plus, the practice was crap too. Absolutely not worth it.

That's because its really not a "practice".  It is a spectacle.

Yea, anything with Dav Spadaro emceeing the entire time is a hard pass for me.

Nakobe Dean just isn't moving the needle for me. I'm ready to move on. When you hear reports of BVS being heads and shoulders the best special teams player, I'd rather keep him on the team and give him reps on D as well, let Trotter develop and find someone else.

What qualifies as ready? All reports I read are that McMahon is getting the 2nd team Center reps. I know Hennessy was brought in with that in mind but why wouldn't they give him reps there too? If he isn't getting the 2nd team LG reps or stepping to LG when Dickerson is out, and McMahon is getting the 2nd team Center reps, what exactly is Hennessy?

You were at the open practice? Or are you just saying you didn't see him stand out in the 3 approximate available minutes of TC clips? The dude has been rehabbing the lisfranc injury all the way into June and the team has been working Baun in. Even if Baun turns into a better player, I don't see what cutting ties with Dean would accomplish. Dean, btw, is also a good ST player at the very least, he was one of our best in 2022. Right now, even after not being able to fully participate in the earlier OTAs while rehabbing, Dean is firmly entrenched as 1 of the top 3 LBs on this team. When the #4 and #5 LBs pass him, then I will worry about his future.

I'm just saying this based off of what I've read and hear on different podcasts. The guys that are there every day at practice who say he's underwhelming.

I'm sure you'll get to see for yourself when the preseason begins. I'm not worried about what other people are saying. I haven't exactly heard about a single LB standout so far. But there hasn't been any tackling yet, either. What I do know about Dean is he has the lowest missed tackle percentage of all our LBs by far and when he was out last season, our biggest problem on defense was tackling. I'm personally looking forward to him competing for a starting role again this year.

I am still most concerned about the WR 3 position, including any injuries to Brown or Smith would be devastating at this point....not sure what to think of  Johnny Wilson still getting time with the 1st team . I really hope they lock someone down...WR 3 by committee is a crazy idea

No it’s not. Situational football when they line up three or four WRs.  Same as RB, same as when they go 12 personnel.  WR3 and who steps up in the event of a starter missing time, isn’t the same thing. Next up at this point is probably Campbell. They are one week into TC, let the WR competition shake out some.  Note what Hurts said about getting together working out and how that has benefitted Wilson.

😕  How would Reddick getting a contract NEXT YEAR impact this calculation for Comp picks?   Wouldn't it be about the Eagles' net signings/losses NEXT offseason?

Crap, you are right. Combination of me being an idiot and having a 3 year old

No worries.   I did see a post from you later that mentioned the idea of getting picks immediately for Reddick, which increases the pay out... plus the classic wait of a year pushes the compensation back a round.   So, its about a 3rd in 2026 versus a potential 2nd in 2025.   That's a significantly higher compensation.

NFL level strength training is ready.  Can he play G at NFL level is ready, although to a lesser degree given it looks like the other back up OL will likely be G/Ts.  Hennessy is a one year signee coming off knee issues. Basically a street FA much like Scharping and Gates.  The future back up and possibly starter at G is Keegan.  If Dylan looks ready for C snaps and Toth is a bit of the wild card here because the Eagles have had him at C some again this summer, then Hennessy may not make the team or might make the PS.  After Becton and the starter, I feel all the back up OL positions are in competition this summer.  It’s promising that they like Kinnard enough to move him up.  It’s promising Keegan getting some playing time.  It’s promising that Toth may continue to develop although he didn’t look great in Carolina, that team had a lot of issues and Toth didn’t get much time to gel with their OL play.  They will keep nine or ten OL.  That’s the starters and Becton plus a C and another G/T, plus two more.

I am waiting for the Mailata year one TC comparison to how lost our freebie player Vakahali looks. That’s about as relevant as these first week projections of the 53 are from the beats or how much to read into who practices where. The real important thing at this point is position drills, getting the details down and frankly, as they said in the three a day times, beat you up so that you rise stronger.

John McMullen saying the LBs have been bad, esp last night and thinks Howie is going to have to make a move there. Not surprising but another area of need outside of WR3.

I believe that practices have been longer this year.  The have had a 1 hour and forty minute, a one hour and forty-five minute practice (plus developmental periods and players extending with gassers and jugs use etc.)  Last night was 2 hours and nine minutes.  Guessing the ridiculously light practices have gone away.

With only one thud session, it’s a bit hard to judge LB play.

Yup. It's only super important.

Not exactly sure where they expect to trade for LB play given how poor LB play is in the NFL.

I guess I worded that wrong. If all reports are the McMahon is taking the 2nd team Center reps and Hennessy isn't, what quantifies Hennessy as the backup Center? He's not getting the backup LG or RG reps either. He seems to be an odd man out.

I'd imagine if the Eagles make a move, it's for a proven player rather than a reclamation project like Johnston.

Yeah I’d imagine they’ll want a guy who they can plug in there and know he’s going to hold his own and do alright. They don’t need a superstar in the slot but they need a reliable player.

We talkin bout practice, man.

I agree Jalen looks a lot better health-wise but comparing stat lines is a little much.

Also I don't see a huge concern about WR3. We have several competitors for the spot and they all vary in experience and style.

Some random thoughts from camp so far…

* It’s a double-edged sword, but I’m thrilled the offense is already humming. IMO, the offense is overwhelmingly talented so an improved scheme should help us return to an elite level.

* I’d love to hear more positive buzz about Huff. I’m not really worried at this point, but he really needs to be an impact rusher. Sweat probably at best is a good secondary piece. Smith is unproven. Graham won’t play enough to make a difference. Hunt probably won’t play much at all.

* Fangio’s fascination with Baun is interesting. I’m not sure I completely understand it yet beyond liking the Van Ginkel type of hybrid LB. I wonder how much of a say he had about signing him. Did he personally scout him off a list Howie and Co gave him or did he he just give them an archetype name that’s what he was given?

* It seems like Devin White has been fine in camp. I’m personally not high on him, and it will probably look a lot worse once teams start game planning against him. My biggest hope for him is that he makes enough splash plays to make up for his poor instincts.

* I really wish DeJean was healthy. He was probably the player I was most looking forward to seeing in camp. The secondary has so many potential variations, it would be nice to get a little more clarity. I’m not particularly excited to see Mitchell in the slot.

* Goedert probably won’t get enough volume to truly blow up, but I think he’s going to be ultra efficient and will finally be be the RZ weapon he should be. Moore’s offense is so TE friendly.

* Ainais Smith sounds like he’s been a disaster at WR and returner. Maybe the worst part is that you don’t really hear about him having standout movement skills. I didn’t expect him to make an impact this year, but it sure would be nice for him to just catch the ball and not muff punts.

Yeah, but what good is the competition if it’s among a bunch of dudes who can’t play?

My issue with Ainias Smith was I didn't see nearly enough raw speed or explosiveness in his game film.  I was told he was injured for much of last season and he's actually much faster.  TBH, both Smith and Johnny Wilson looked quite slow to me -- to the point I was quite surprised the Eagles drafted Wilson.  We will see.
