Even if there's not hitting, it's not a good sign to hear how Gainwell has been repeatedly cooking Dean in coverage.

Yeah, but what good is the competition if it’s among a bunch of dudes who can’t play?

Well I saw the chart the other day ranking #3 WRs around the league and I'm not sure we're way behind, I guess that's my underlying point.  Who do we really expect to get, and why would we spend resources for a marginal improvement for a guy who will be on the field maybe 25% of the time?

Campbell is a decent option, Covey deserves a look.  Ross was worth a flyer.

Smith and Wilson are late round rookies so I wouldnt make any declarations right now.

I don't think this is any worse than Zaccheaus and Quez, and our #3 WR will probably be like 5th or 6th in targets behind Goeddert and Saquon.

Some random thoughts from camp so far…

* It’s a double-edged sword, but I’m thrilled the offense is already humming. IMO, the offense is overwhelmingly talented so an improved scheme should help us return to an elite level.v Always the double edged sword. I was thinking that earlier when reading about Becton at RG. One one play they said he looked like an absolute bulldozer in the run game only to be followed up by Jalen Carter whipping him. You want to hear that Becton looks good. You want to hear that Carter looks great but at the same time how can you be made at Becton for losing a rep to Carter? Going to be fun to watch both lines.

* I’d love to hear more positive buzz about Huff. I’m not really worried at this point, but he really needs to be an impact rusher. Sweat probably at best is a good secondary piece. Smith is unproven. Graham won’t play enough to make a difference. Hunt probably won’t play much at all. I have a gut feeling that Hunt plays more than expected. He's just too explosive of an athlete to keep off the field IMO. It sounds like BG is getting quite a bit of interior work so we could be seeing a lot more

* Fangio’s fascination with Baun is interesting. I’m not sure I completely understand it yet beyond liking the Van Ginkel type of hybrid LB. I wonder how much of a say he had about signing him. Did he personally scout him off a list Howie and Co gave him or did he he just give them an archetype name that’s what he was given? Baun was a headscratcher early FA signing but they seem to be high on him. All we have to go on are the reports we read and from everything I've been going through, he seems fine but if anything unspectacular. If he can be in the right place and make a tackle, that's an upgrade from last year.

* It seems like Devin White has been fine in camp. I’m personally not high on him, and it will probably look a lot worse once teams start game planning against him. My biggest hope for him is that he makes enough splash plays to make up for his poor instincts. Much like Hunt, the word that has been used to describe White is explosive. I hope he finds the instincts he once had and becomes a force and I think he can.

* I really wish DeJean was healthy. He was probably the player I was most looking forward to seeing in camp. The secondary has so many potential variations, it would be nice to get a little more clarity. I’m not particularly excited to see Mitchell in the slot. It sucks that DeJean is missing this time but I think he'll be fine. What I'm not hearing a lot about is the nickel CB. Avonte Maddox and Tyler Hall haven't been heard from. The only thing I've heard about Maddox was he blitzed a few times, which he was stellar at when he was at Pitt.

* Goedert probably won’t get enough volume to truly blow up, but I think he’s going to be ultra efficient and will finally be be the RZ weapon he should be. Moore’s offense is so TE friendly. Can he stay healthy? Caclaterra is heads and shoulders above the rest for TE2 but if Goedert goes down, the thought of Calcaterra at TE1 is scary.

* Ainais Smith sounds like he’s been a disaster at WR and returner. Maybe the worst part is that you don’t really hear about him having standout movement skills. I didn’t expect him to make an impact this year, but it sure would be nice for him to just catch the ball and not muff punts. Bummed about this. Was really excited when they drafted him but it sounds like he's just having a horrible camp. Johnny Wilson is outplaying him and if cuts happen today, it's Wilson over Smith 10 out of 10 times. I wonder if he gets a phantom injury to head to IR.

If Huff doesn't play really well this season, there will be a ton of lamenting about Reddick, and honestly, deservedly so.

Dean's strengths are against the run and as a pass rusher. He was never going to be good in coverage, so if rbs weren't beating him in 1v1 situations, that would be indicative of a much greater problem.

I'm confident Huff is doing more than Reddick is so far.

LB is becoming a non important position across the league.   Teams just don't view it like they used to.  Not that I agree but it's the way it is.

As long as you have solid LB play you'll be fine.  Problem is we haven't even had that.

I'm trying to think of great LB's across the league.  Roquan Smith, Fred Warner.  After that I'm not coming up with any.  There are some good to solid LB's but not many great ones.

My guess is we see starters play 1-2 series next Friday.  They have indicated they want starters to see some preseason time this year.  The following week they have joint practices with the Patriots so unlikely they will play starters in that preseason game and then the final one against the Vikings will be for the bottom end guys fighting for a job before final cutdowns.

Nah, Reddick had to go.

Huff + 3rd + cap space > Reddick.

Huff as a pass rusher is pretty much a proven commodity, and probably worth his deal just in that role.

Question is whether he's a 800 snap 3 down edge player.

But if Hunt and Smith come on, it won't matter b/c he won't be playing 800 snaps.

Why?  Reddick is holding out and would be doing so here with no extension.  If he were still an Eagle and holding out the talk would be about the idiocy of not trading him knowing he would hold out.

Maybe, the play on the field will dictate that.

We'll see. This narrative ends the second Reddick either ends his holdout and reports to camp or reaches a new deal with the Jets.

But the Eagles chose to let a top end pass rusher go because they didn't want to pay him, chose to pay Huff instead, and that decision will be predicated on how each player does this season.

How did Reddick look in his first TC here? Was he standing out or more like Huff?

There was obviously some locker room issues last year among other issues going on with the team that contributed to the late season collapse.  Reddick is disgruntled about his contract.  He wants to be paid among the highest at his position, he wants Bosa level money and turns 30 two weeks into the season.  I can't blame the Eagles for not wanting to dedicate that money to someone who is going to be on the wrong side of 30 very soon.  Someone who the Eagles have probably already seen the best from.

Did not make sense then, given the issues of last season, to keep someone around in the lockerroom who was going to be openly disgruntled about his contract situation.  Especially when the Eagles handed out money this season to a number of players on the roster giving them big new deals.

Well, his tds and lack of interceptions is saving this blog 60+ pages of posters complaining about him, so there's that.

He's awful  :nonono:

Hurts looks way faster than last year. He had to be hiding an injury or something.
