That little girl makes better contact than Castellanos.

I do have huge expectations for DeJean, but he's also a guy I wanted in the draft. Cooper DeJean is going to be a guy who doesn't come off the field. I wanted nothing to do with Jordan Davis, and definitely didn't want the Eagles trading up for a guy who won't be on the field half the time.

big players don't typically have great conditioning because they're big.  Yet,  teams want big players in the middle.  You can ask a 341 pound DT to become a better conditioned 320 or 300 pound DT, and they won't be the same player.  You expect to have big DTs, and you expect to not have them play that many snaps.  If you were to identify beforehand the one position where you don't expect the player to play all that many snaps,  it's big DT.   It's something very well known to everyone.  However,  the complaints about that well known thing will certainly never stop, here at least.

Last 2 years.   Get to the Super Bowl,  do pretty well there, but lose.  Then,  10-1, and then inexplicable "collapse",   star WR hurt,  Eagles lose in the playoff game.  Eagles are looking good right now.

Man Kevin Hart is killing this roast

"Tom Brady, you left Bill and won a SB right away. You left Bill with f’ing Mac Jones. You f’ed your coach, Tom. Speaking of f’ing your coach, let’s talk about Gisele.”

I was really impressed with Bledsoe. He looked really awkward up there but all of his jokes were solid

I think the knock on Trotter isn't that he lacks the size, it's that he lacks the size and athleticism. I personally think he will be fine because he has instincts and plays the game fast, but there are going to be times when the lack of speed and agility will hurt him.

I thought Brady’s speech was really good. my favorite part of it was this or the colt/broncos comment

Has it been confirmed that they’re switching to a 34? I’ve only heard they will use multiple fronts including but not limited to 34

We dont know for sure, but the personnel fit, so if it quacks like a duck…

fangio doesnt usually play a traditional two gap though

Wait what ring camera caught bill doing the walk of shame??

There is a non-zero possibility that Elliot will be the only Eagle over 30 in two years.

I am a fan of Goedert.  But with the deals they gave to Hurts, Brown, and Smith, along with likely extensions for parts of the 22 & 23 draft classes, it's hard to imagine they give a third contract to him.

Their alignments are all over the place as it is. Hybrid ish. Just don't suck again Vic.

Met Bledsoe at a work function, he’s a cool dude.  Not surprised he went for the jugular.

It's more of a 1 and a half gap, somewhere between an aggressive one gap, moving up the field and a static two gap, controlling gaps but little push.

I think everything about Fangio's defense is disguising assignments, and I'm sure that extends to the DL. Wouldn't be surprised if Davis hits the A gap a couple times a game.

So while he'll run a base 3-4, it's not going to be a simple 2 gap system.

Same way with CJGJ and DeSean, you're not going to be running a "base" 5 DBs, it'll be a Chinese fire drill after the snap with DBs moving around to screw up the QB keying on the FS or SS or NCB.

FWIW these celebrities at roasts have almost all of their jokes written for them by the comedians. I mean they still need to approve and execute the lines but it's not like Belichick and Bledsoe were out there writing killer jokes by themselves. Every once and awhile one of em tries to do it solo and they almost always bomb horribly (see "The Situation" at the Trump Roast).

Yea, she’s good and doesn’t really hold back. I miss Greg Giraldo, he would always be brutally honest and just rip everyone to shreds.

Giraldo was an all time great roaster. It's a shame Patrice O'Neil only did it once. He was an amazing crap talker too.

I would go out on a limb and guess that Peyton and Ferrell wrote most of theirs

Peyton’s was quite different than everyone else’s as it was his "brand” of humor, and Ferrell basically did an SNL sketch in character

At first i was surprised no one mentioned nick foles during this entire roast. they did Eli manning. I still think nick foles being brought up was likely something Brady is still irritated about and was made off limits in the roast. Cause i have to believe someone would’ve made a joke there if allowed.

Maybe, but Howie was talking about the need to play young players before the draft, and cleared out a lot of under performing veterans (and what are the odds Bradberry is an Eagle come September/).

So I see it more as an overall breakdown. Howie has prepared for this transition for two years (accumulating future draft picks) but hoped to patch his way over the gap. Didn't work. But he remained focused on the future with most of his picks.

Mitchell and DeJean may play a big role this season, but most of the improvement will come from 2nd and 3rd year players, as usual. Which is why you can't instantly turn a team around through the draft, generally outside the top ten or so, you're often trading off between "NFL ready" and "ultimate upside." Someone like Smith is an upside pick, he may not make it, but if he bulks up to 245 without losing speed, and learns how to be a complete WOLB, he has pro bowl potential. Howie lucked out with Mitchell (smaller college) and DeJean, both are NFL ready (at least for this scheme, Mitchell might need a year to start in a press heavy scheme), but both have the athleticism to have a lot of upside (DeJean probably would have gone higher if he had a couple months to prepare for the combine and posted eye catching numbers). Hunt's a good example of an upside pick

One thing to remember, any team with Hurts at QB is not going to a comfortable clubhouse for underachievers. Your QB, especially with a big contract, sets the tone for the team.

Hurts has the work ethic that'll put other players to shame if they can't keep up. You can see it in those weight room videos. He ain't chasing dog toys in the desert.

Accumulating draft choices?  By draft day, he had two of the Eagles original choices. #22 and #53.  By the end the of the draft, he had used only #22, trading every other original pick.  But for the comp picks, it would have been a mighty small draft. And basically what he did with trading into next year was mostly recouping what he had previously traded away.

Two-gapping, as the name implies, is more complex that a one-gap front. And yes, you can run a pure one-gap 3-4 defense and be successful. See Wade Phillips. Agree with the first part though, where Fangio runs sort of a one-gap plus.
