Yay the 49ers won't get a top 5 pick.

I’ve heard more positive than negative things about Trotter Jr in camp. Maybe he ends up being the tallest midget.

I don’t like our back-ups at OT. I though Mekhi would back that up as well.

I think there’s a lot to be concerned about when it comes to the edge rushers but how they have looked in camp is lower on my list. With Huff it’s can he be a three down player and not be a complete liability against the run and with increased playing time. With Sweat it’s has he peaked in 2022 and on the down slope of his career with his knee. Can Nolan Smith, who actually has shown good flashes in camp, actually do it in a game and not just be a camp try hard for the second year in a row. Can Graham be anything more than a 15ish snap per game player in his 15th season. After those 4 there’s really not much depth left. It’s a lot of wait and see which can go in any direction.

Those were my concerns as well and I was hoping Nolan would’ve had a great camp. Still early. A little concerning that Huff hasn’t really been talked about at all.

Some general thoughts about the major issues coming out of camp.

As far as LB, Baun and White may not be ideal, but at least they are doing well in training camp so far. Last year Dean was the best of the bunch, and he would have played had he not gotten hurt. This year he may be fourth on the depth chart, so we are at least moving in the right direction.

As far as DE, Huff has had a quiet camp, but he's going against Lane pretty consistently, who also pretty much shut out Reddick in training camp when he was here. So I wouldn't hit the panic button yet. Smith has had some positive write ups, albeit often going against backups. Plus, Fangio is a genius at generating unblocked pressures, and Smith and Huff should feast on those.

WR3 is a position of concern, but everyone who has played there has gotten good reviews - Covey, Wilson and Campbell when he was healthy. Wilson in particular is catching the ball, which is somewhat of a surprise and the singular reason he wasn't drafted much higher. If his hands do improve, we essentially got a discounted first-round draft pick, and there's no reason to keep him off the field.

Finally, right guard is not a position that worries me too much. I actually love the idea of putting Becton in there and watching us just manhandle opposing defenses in the run game. The center can help him in pass protection, and, with Hurts at qb, I am not really that worried about a DT getting pressure anyway, since the one thing he has worked on over the last few years is getting out of the pocket.

Our depth this year is kinda iffy in a lot of places, OL, DL, WR, and TE in particular. You could argue RB as well. (LB is iffy all across the board so I didn’t include that as that doesn’t concern depth per se.) The only place where we appear to be considerably deeper this year is the secondary.

Pretty much a flat out lie.  That guy played the run like dog 💩 last year down the stretch losing contain on almost every play.  All he cared about was sacks, not playing within the defense.  Hate that he is here instead of Reddick but Reddick was going to be a discontent obviously

If Aiyuk gets traded, the Steelers feel like the team. They make the most sense and they've been connected to him for months.

Justin Simmons working out for the Saints tomorrow.

Man, he must be desperate.  I guess being with Broncos he will feel right at home

Read today’s 411 article on day 8 practice notes. Mentions how Dean has still been horrible in coverage. He is a special team talent, no more. Maybe he can help in short yardage and or goal line. If Howie demands he plays, the d will suffer and he alone could cost us games

I think our DL depth is actually solid, especially at DT. My concern at EDGE is that we lack a true #1. We may have too many #2/3s.

The LB looking at another season of assorted parts players and looking to trade for someone in TC?

That was a rough read, but pretty close to what many of us thought in real time.

A lot in that ESPN piece.

Siri wanted to prove his offensive chops and undermined Johnson at every turn, it came to a point where he was over ruling BJ so much that the team didn’t know who the play caller was anymore.

Hurts wanted to prove his contract worth and was pressing too much, he also lacked respect for Siri’s play calling leading to BJ playing the mediator role.

This year Siri has surrendered the offense to Moore, he is no longer having private meetings with Hurts and is barely attending QB room meetings.

This begs the question even more, if things were this bad, why bring Siri back? Even if Moore turns the offense/Hurts around, he will just leave for a HC job and we will be back to square one.

Yup.

Read the 3rd and long run line and got PTSD

People grow into jobs. Sirianni made the mistake of "it ain't broke, don't fix it", but I'm not sure Johnson had the fix either.

Steichen's offense probably had an expiration date, especially if Hurts isn't 100% as a runner, the league has learned how to defend these schemes, just look at Lamar in the playoffs.

A year with Moore will teach Sirianni a lot about offense, being exposed to a very different scheme than the ones he coached under and ran in SD and here.

We saw this with AR, who modified his WCO a number of times, and took two decades (and Mahomes) to perfect it.

Did Sirianni mention anything about playing time Friday night?

No starters likely. Be ready. You’re going in sometime in the 4th quarter.
