The Jags signed him as a TE under Urban Meyer so…

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but went over to Steelers.com to see if they had any trade news and geez the coverage of camp is incredible.

Was Bacarty over there threatening to beat people up in the parking lot while his kid watches?

The Eagles are too secretive. They are way too worried about opponents "knowing too much." The funny thing is that no matter how much they tried to hide everything in 2023, opponents were more prepared to play us than any other team.

Probably because the 2022 game film had the answers to the test.

It was well discussed back when Tebow was first in the NFL that he could get a NFL job if he were to convert to FB or TB or something other than QB,  and Tebow wouldn't do that.  This was when position switches were less common.   Tebow could have been playing all through those years, perhaps as an interesting QB/FB/TE hybrid.   But he chose not to.  Years later,  Urban Meyer gave him a shot but it wasn't good enough.

Maybe the Eagles can bring in Terrelle Pryor right now.

You are correct.   They had a natural grass field for the Super Bowl in Arizona a few years ago in that indoor stadium.   That worked perfectly, didn't it?

The grass that was specifically made for the Super Bowl? Yeah, that was a mistake. That isn’t what the Cardinals use during their games.

Ummm.....the game film from the week before had the answers to the test...didn't have to go way back to 2022.

Trey Burton

Last year is last year but I do blame Siri along with Front Office meddling   But that's over with, new year, new beginning.   They have a Early Bye Week this year so that means a long 13 straight game stretch. Plus Brazil then Monday Night to start the season (Against Kirk again, lol).   I  like our chances this year because I still believe they are one of the best teams in the NFC.   Interested how some players look on Friday against B-More.  4 More Weeks till Brazil.

The thing about Bermuda grass is that it thrives in the hot, summer climate with lots of sun and its characteristics make it great for football fields and golf courses. But in the winter months, it turns yellow and stops growing as much. So people that want to keep it green will cut it extra short and seed it with winter rye grass and some fertilizer. Bermuda plus rye (hybrid) is not a tough grass surface as many of you saw in that game. It can look real nice, but the rye grass blades are weaker and need a lot more water content to thrive.

The problem with the Super Bowl is that it's just nearly impossible to have a pure, green Bermuda playing surface in mid-February.

Anyway, that field wasn't some kind of scientific experiment. It was just a case where they thought the winter rye would be more visually appealing than painting the Bermuda grass and they learned that it didn't hold up as well as they had hoped.

The irony in all of that was that they wanted a better field than what the Cardinals' stadium usually has - and failed miserably.

The goal was for the conditions to not impact the game and in that effort, they created conditions that impacted the game.

Football is an outdoor game.  It has not been a perfect conditions game.  And making it into that fundamentally changes the essence of the game.  Let's have the NFL stop trying to fix what's not broken in the effort to chase even more billions of $.

The craziest irony in all this is that hockey is trying to make more money by having outdoor games as a novelty.

No practice today and I think this team is nearly set. There are a few battles but even those aren't so murky anymore.

CB2: It's clear right now that Darius Slay and Isaiah Rodgers are the starting CBs with their backups being Kelee Ringo and Quinyon Mitchell.

The question for me comes down to the fact that the Eagles are going to have two starting caliber CB, high draft picks on the bench in Ringo and Mitchell. It's clear Mitchell is CB1 next year (Slay retires). Is the hope the Rodgers plays so well he scores a massive deal in FA and the Eagles get a comp pick, meanwhile Ringo bumps up to CB2? If Rodgers is playing that well, could he lock up an extension during the season making Mitchell/Rodgers the 2025 and beyond CB duo? I mentioned it a few months back but could Rodgers playing well make Kelee Ringo a trade chip? Where does Cooper DeJean fit in all of this?

The Eagles have a 1st (Mitchell) 2nd (DeJean), who cost them two 2nds with Washington, and a 4th (Ringo), who also cost them a 3rd. That's a serious draft investment in CB. I don't think you use those picks for guys to be on the bench. Rodgers cost them nothing outside of a lost season. Trading him for anything OR losing him in FA hoping for a comp pick is a win.

My gut tells me they roll with 8 CB until DeJean is healthy. Slay, Rodgers, Ringo, Mitchell, Maddox, Hall, Jobe, DeJean.

RG: IMO, Mekhi Becton has won this job. The Eagles might not want to say it, but it's Becton's job. While he might not be flashy, he's going to be a road grader and decent at pass protection. He's also new to the position so there's also growth potential. The fact that he's stopped taking backup RT reps (unless I missed something) tells me that Becton is the RG. If he was slated to be the backup, he would still be getting RT looks.

WR3: Johnny Wilson and Britain Covey are your joint WR3. The only battle now is for WR5. Ainias Smith might be a phantom IR. He's been bad, but he's also still pretty high on the return depth chart. I think they see his future potential rather than just this bad camp. I don't see them cutting him so the decision here is do they keep 5 or 6 WR? Parris Campbell's groin injury cost him a roster spot. Unfortunate, but he doesn't have a record of staying healthy and as they say, cant' make the club in the tub. John Ross is probably the winner here. All of the other players can easily clear waivers for the PS.

IOL: The Eagles have a big old mess of journeyman backups and rookies here. It feels like Dylan McMahon is giving them what they hoped Matt Hennessy was going to. Trevor Keegan seems to be coming on as of late and Darian Kinnard has cooled off a bit. Starting 5 is locked in. Mailata/Dickerson/Jurgens/Betcton/Johnson. Fred Johnson is backup tackle. Brett Toth is swing T/G. McMahon and Keegan both make the team as backup C and G. OL 10 is the battle. Does Hennessy get the position based on his past NFL experience? Kinnard has potential and the Eagles seem to like him. The odd man out might be Tyler Steen via trade.

 QB (3) Hurts, Pickett, Mckee

RB (6) Barkley, Gainwell, Shipley

WR (12) Brown, Smith, Wilson, Covey, Ross, Smith

TE (15) Goedert, Calcaterra, Jenkins

OL (25) Mailata, Dickerson, Jurgens, Becton, Johnson, F. Johnson, Toth, Keegan, McMahon, Kinnard

EDGE (31) Huff, Sweat, BG, Smith, Hunt, Johnson

DT (36) Carter, Davis, Williams, Ojomo, Tuipulotu

LB (40) White, Baun, BVS, Trotter

CB (48) Slay, Rodgers, Ringo, Mitchell, Maddox, Jobe, Hall, DeJean

S (52) CJGJ, Blankenship, Bradberry, McCollum

ST (55) Elliott, Mann, Lovato

I'm 2 over with only 3 safeties not including Sidney Brown on PUP. Once healthy, DeJean takes Tyler Hall's spot. Ainias Smith either turns it on or goes to IR leaving them with 5 WR. That puts them at 53, Brown on PUP.

It is really just stupid.

Some reporters listing Campbell as stock down and saying he may not make the team. I'm a little surprised by that. Word is he was having a good camp before he got hurt. And they will likely keep 5 WRs. Brown, Smith, Covey(as PR/WR), Wilson. That's 4. There's no chance they keep Ross over him. Ainias Smith feels like a very obvious phantom IR candidate. Unless they trade for someone I don't see how he doesn't make it. Especially since if Wilson turns out to not be ready for real game action, who would be WR3? Covey? I mean, seriously.

It really seems like a sign that the team needs to be secretive because they just don't have creativity.   I think that's changing with Fangio and Moore as the coordinators, so I don't think its a problem.  But when a team is constantly worried about 'competitive advantage' it really begs the question as to why.  And it seems as though the top level decision makers fear being exposed.

Good post.

A versatile guy like Steen I think should be held onto. If I recall he may be able to even play center? Injuries are inevitable. Especially on the right side.

An under the radar trade candidate could be Pickett? If McKee and him are about even as far as backup QB goes then why not. Actually the Ravens are a team who could be interested.

WR 3 looks like a problem. I didn’t realize Campbell was hurt.
