Do they retire 9, or will it go on the shelf for a very long time?

This is where I am as of now. Few notes:

- I wanted to cut Uzomah and go with 2 TEs on the initial 53. But with $717,500 of guaranteed money ($167,500 signing and $550,000 guaranteed salary) I think he makes the team. No need to play the game for week 1 to avoid guaranteeing the $435k of salary that is currently not guaranteed

- It came down to P. Johnson or A. Smith. I went with Johnson for special teams and Smith either gets a phantom IR or hopefully gets through to the PS.

- I'm officially calling Maddox a safety

- Jobe stays for special teams

- Bradberry stays as his salary is guaranteed, and he has embraced safety. No savings from cutting him.

- Toth beats out Kinnard for the 10th OL spot

- S. Brown on PUP to start

It's a shame that outside of Philly he was always on terrible teams.

Streakiest player I can remember. He was either a top 5 guy or borderline unplayable.

What a wild ride to his career. Loved him when he played for my alma mater. And loved watching him bring home the trophy for the eagles. Happy retirement Nick. He’s going to kill it as a pickle ball player.

The thing about Bermuda grass is that it thrives in the hot, summer climate with lots of sun and its characteristics make it great for football fields and golf courses. But in the winter months, it turns yellow and stops growing as much. So people that want to keep it green will cut it extra short and seed it with winter rye grass and some fertilizer. Bermuda plus rye (hybrid) is not a tough grass surface as many of you saw in that game. It can look real nice, but the rye grass blades are weaker and need a lot more water content to thrive.

The problem with the Super Bowl is that it's just nearly impossible to have a pure, green Bermuda playing surface in mid-February.

Anyway, that field wasn't some kind of scientific experiment. It was just a case where they thought the winter rye would be more visually appealing than painting the Bermuda grass and they learned that it didn't hold up as well as they had hoped.

The Raiders have warmers under the grass for the winter months that seem to work fine. The issue with the SB is they left the field indoors that week instead of rolling it outside. They fixed that when it was in Vegas.

I’m fine not watching another snow game. 🤷‍♂️

The downside in 2017 was having exactly that... and Chance Warmack was a waste, sadly.  Then they turned it over to Wis... after they gave up on Seumalo for that season.

Seumalo and Opeta are good examples of turning a T into a G.  Steen was as much an OT as a RG last season.  Now he is concentrating on learning RG (also a different side of the OL for him).  We are just into the third week of TC.  He needs live reps in games which he will get in the PS games.  With the banged up ankle, it is too early to pass judgment.  It’s a development process.

Wouldn't have worked out anyway even if the Eagles claimed him.

I think it will be unofficially retired the same way 12 is.

Any non big name guys you think might get cut by other teams that you think we will have interest in?

I think Steen will figure it out this year or next. He's got the physical talent, Stout's great, and he's not soft like Dillard.

But yeah I'm definitely not a fan of 5 year college player projects. Also feel like Becton's gonna give up a sack a game.

I kept reading this as "He's a great cheeseburger apparently" and I had no idea what that meant.

Were you hungry at the time?

No judgment on Becton at OG was passed.  The statement reflected the reality that having a former first round pick bust as the fallback plan is in no way a harbinger of good things to come based on his former draft status, which was the only reason cited for the implied optimism.

Becton at OG could work out beautifully, but his draft status at this point is 100% irrelevant for a variety of reasons, only one of which is the switch to OG from OT.  Becton at OG could also work out like the aforementioned former first round pick bust that the Eagles tried to rebuild in 2017... and he didn't have a position switch to worry about, and was being reunited with the OL coach that made him a top 10 pick at OG (a rare thing in the NFL).

I get the optimism for Becton.  I also get the pessimism about him.  Personally I am in wait and see mode.  And since practices aren't open to the public, and since starters rarely play in PS, we may have to wait until Opening night in Brazil to actually be able to see for ourselves.

Literally no opinion can really be formed about him at all based on the current evidence, its all about past projections and unreliable 'reports' from media members that can attend camp.  (Of course some of them bring such amazing analysis as to update us on box score stats from the practices with no context or meaning behind them.)

I didn't get into the tie breakers, but I'd go with Browns.

Would make a great QB coach if he ever wants to go in that direction.

There is a real chance that team implodes. I am assuming they get Lamb back for week 1. But I am very down on their O Line -- their LT is a raw prospect who played like 8 games at RT in college, their C is a PS guy and the RT stunk last year. They lost Armstrong and Fowler who added 11.5 sacks last year as the 3rd and 4th DE, and with Williams out, they have basically nothing behind Parsons and Lawrence. Their DTs are still awful, and they are very weak up the middle. If they get off to a bad start, it could spiral fast.

QB (3) Hurts, Pickett, Mckee

RB (6) Barkley, Gainwell, Shipley

WR (12) Brown, Smith, Wilson, Covey, Ross, Smith

TE (15) Goedert, Calcaterra, Jenkins

OL (25) Mailata, Dickerson, Jurgens, Becton, Johnson, F. Johnson, Toth, Keegan, McMahon, Kinnard

EDGE (31) Huff, Sweat, BG, Smith, Hunt, Johnson

DT (36) Carter, Davis, Williams, Ojomo, Tuipulotu

LB (40) White, Baun, BVS, Trotter

CB (48) Slay, Rodgers, Ringo, Mitchell, Maddox, Jobe, Hall, DeJean

S (52) CJGJ, Blankenship, Bradberry, McCollum

ST (55) Elliott, Mann, Lovato

I don't think they are cutting Steen but I could be wrong.  Hennessy is also listed as number 2 C.  I also don't think Dean is going to be cut and I think he's just as good at STs as BVS.  I don't think Jobe is going to make the roster.  He's not stood out in camp and there's too many people ahead of him.  Hall seems like a practice squad type player.

I think this could be one of those years where the O-line is an issue all year with guys rotating in and out and never having a set 5 with a different combination almost every week. Putting the RG issue aside, Lane is still elite but 34 and hasn't played a full season since 2015. He's also played a lot of games dealing with some type of injury. Jurgens health is also a question mark as he got beat up a lot last year. Maybe it was just one bad year but it's going to be hard to put blind trust that he'll be able to have an ironman career like Kelce. Dickerson gets nicked up more than any player I can remember while avoiding major injuries. It feels like almost every game last year he would have to come out for a few plays. I'm not necessarily worried about his health but if he were to miss a stretch of games I wouldn't be surprised. Mailata might be the most dependable guy on the line at the moment.

Also have to take into account the depth. This is the first time in a long time it feels like they are not very deep at all along the O-line. They do have some versatile pieces and could kick Becton back out to T if needed but then you are likely changing two positions. I think they are going to need the two Day 3 guys ready to go in a pinch.
