typical preseason game ...not much too take away at this point...I liked the effort

I stopped watching but confused what the McKee hype is about in this game alone. 6/16 with a 2.4 average is bad regardless of who’s out there.

McKee is overhyped and Picket gets too much hate.

Anyone else think Zach Baun looked lost out there against backups? Don’t have any hope for the LBs once again this year.

Pretty much.

Pickett will be absolutely fine stepping in and playing with starters if needed for a few games.

It may be unfortunately true that McKee would be even better.

We will be in ok shape with either backup. But it would be annoying if the eagles dont choose the best one to play just because of resources spent.

Baun is best as an outside rusher. Has always been the case.

Perhaps if Trotter can continue looking good, Baun can kick back outside where he can thrive more. It sure seems like we can use more juice off the edges.

Vic loves this guy and feels as though he's an ILB. Maybe Vic needs lasik

Pickett will win qb2 spot

Thank God.  It'd probably be in his head the rest kf the hear in that situation if he missed that one again.

He's not breaking training camp records or anything. Very concerning!

I'd rather we beat them in the regular season. Lost the last 2 games against them by a total of 3 points

I like what we've seen from Shipley so far.

man. Ainias Smith just may not even make it to next week on this team.

I think he ends up on the PS still. He's certainly not helping his case at the moment

Time for my annual rant on preseason coverage:

Everybody involved with the production of the broadcast of preseason games: You suck! YOU ALL SUCK!!

There is no point in any game where I want to watch the game I'm watching on 1/3 of the screen I have available to watch the game on. Nothing on the sideline is more important than what is happening on the field. The interviews are fine because the announcers used for preseason home teams are complete trash --- but I don't need any video whatsoever to accompany that audio of the said interviews. If you feel you must dedicate video to the totally useless sideline interview, consider using the old ASL box that networks used in the old days before closed captioning was a thing:

Virginia-Moore.png

Do not EVER go away from the play and show the sideline before the whistle is blown (Like on our first tush-push). Don't sit there and tell us your interpretation of a replay your producer is too incompetent to switch to in live broadcasts. You only have 3 games to display your ineptness each year --- would it be asking too much to prepare for them by having a list of names that accompany the other team's player numbers so you could mention who made the tackle?

Loved the pick originally. I think he takes over as RB2 halfway through the season

Overall, It wasn't that great a day for either guy. Hopefully they both look better next week.

Don't like Ravens. So I'm happy

Liked what I saw from Shipley, Hunt, Mitchell, Ringo, Trotter, Covey, Keegan. Typical preseason game.

Congrats also to Avonte Maddox for making it thru a whole game unscathed.

Watching the replay on NFLN. First run play for the Ravens and Devin White overruns the play opening a huge hole up the middle.

Here is a very quick take on what I saw, primarily aimed for folks who didn't get to watch.

As preseason openers go, this one was actually better than usual. Not just because the Eagles won. But in general it wasn't the typical slopfest you see. Granted, it wasn't a clean game by any means, but it wasn't an abomination.

Guys who I thought looked good: Quinyon Mitchell (didn't play much but looked the part, nearly had an INT); Kelee Ringo (very impressive, looked like an NFL starter out there); Britain Covey (a couple catches and a great punt return); Will Shipley (sort of); Tanner McKee (threw some nice balls, wasn't helped out by his receivers on a couple of them); Tristan McCollum (dunno why but he kinda caught my eye a couple of times).

I'd also give a nod to guys like: Nolan Smith (although I thought it was kind of telling that he was getting significant playing time in the second half with the backups); Tyrion Davis-Price; Patrick Johnson; Jeremiah Trotter Jr.; Jalyx Hunt; Grant Calcaterra; Johnny Wilson (maybe, kinda, sorta).

There are probably some offensive linemen who deserve praise, but it's hard to tell watching a game like that live.

I would have liked more from John Ross. And Ainias Smith was an absolute dud as a punt returner. Had about five chances and didn't do anything with them, other than fumble one which luckily went out of bounds.

I muted the TV any time Spadaro came on. I have no regrets.

He threw the ball accurately to receivers who were covered. And when his receivers were open, he threw the ball accurately and had them dropped.

He has a knack for putting the ball where it needs to go. That's not easily quantified by numbers.

Couldn't watch the game. How did Jalyx Hunt look?

McCollum is still an under the radar guy to most Eagles fans. I don't see him pushing our current starters, but I can see him making the final team. He played well last season in the finale vs the giants (one of our few bright spots in that game). He's one of the guys I'm trying to focus on in the preseason. N. Smith definitely made a few plays today and that's good to see. I thought Dean played better than both Baun and White. He had a nice blitz where he was blocked initially but didn't give up and got the hit forcing an errant throw, but it was wiped out by a hold by Smith. There are people claiming Dean can't cover at all. He can cover and just needs to be more consistent in that area. For him, it was important to just get him back out there so he can regain that confidence in his (healed) foot. I liked how they used Covey at WR. That was a big play by Johnson at the end. Hunt is kind of flashing a little, but I'd like to see a big play from him. Davis-Price stood out. I don't expect us to keep more than 3 RBs on the final roster, but he ran well.

I think he looked like he belongs in the NFL. He had a clean pressure on a stunt and dropped into coverage a few times. Fangio loves guys like him, and I think he ticked a lot of boxes for his first game. It looked like he made a real nice play on special teams as well.

Overall, for a guy who had a lot of question marks after the draft, it was a solid debut.

I know Gainwell gets criticism. I think he's good when used effectively.  I think there were too many situations they'd go away from Sanders or Swift and use Gainwell too much.

Gainwell & Shipley together makes the RB room strong.

VanSumeren was good.  6 tackles.  Trotter also was good, with 6 tackles.   I don't know the snap counts for Baum, Dean, White, VanSumeren and Trotter,  but the other ILBs weren't getting a lot of tackles while VanSumeren and Trotter did.
