perfect example of why you shouldnt care as much as you do about RAS.

Remind me how to ignore someone?

I agree but he’s probably someone they would rather keep, and if not, will cost more.

I thought we only lost to the Browns.  Who else did we lose a joint practice to?  Did we go 0-2 last year?

I think one was Miami in 2022

How do you "win” joint practices? Is he counting all the individual rep wins?

You win if you make the soccer fanboy think you practiced better

Like this

This is a better example (but not quite perfect).

There's a reason why Wilson didn't run the 3cone.

a young corner is far more valuable than a slot rental

the Eagles don't need a slot rental, either.   I'm confident in Covey in the slot.  Perhaps someone else like Wilson, Campbell or Ross is even better than Covey in the slot.  But Covey would be effective at the slot position.

The Eagles went to the Super Bowl with Brown, Smith and Quez Watkins in the slot.  Watkins sucked in 2022, was a little better last year.

He was better than a probable hall of famer at every single thing.  Even if you deduct some points based on what you imagine,  you should notice that the shuttle is better for Wilson than Evans.

Evans had 4 numbers that were worse than Wilsons worst number.  Overall,  Wilson at least matches the hofer, and most would say that Wilsons numbers are better.

I'm looking mostly at Wilson's ability to block,  to take Brown or Smith off the field for rest in running situations.

Johnny Wilson
He utilized his size as a run blocker and became an underrated piece to the Seminole ground game. PFF graded him as a 75.8 and 73.9 run blocker in 2022 and 2023, respectively. In every game last season, he played double-digit run snaps, which speaks to his character and willingness to put the team first.

https://fsuwire.usatoday.com/2024/03/18/fsu-seminoles-johnny-wilson-best-prospect-2024-nfl-draft-pff/

Wilson measures in at a whopping 6-foot-6 and 235 pounds, so it’s to be expected that blocking would be one of his fortes. His 73.9 run-blocking grade was the highest among the top 20 receivers on PFF’s rankings.

Best run blocker amongst the best wide receivers last year.

Would you like me to find other pro bowl receivers, the big kind,  that Wilson has better numbers than?   Or are you going to stick with the "it's not there, so it must be bad" argument?

Wilson has very similar numbers to a pro bowl receiver,  but better,  or tied,  in every single case.

People that pay WAY too much attention to RAS and PFF are nerds and pollute a true man's game that is defined by toughness and results on a field of play, not numbers and math equations.

Aside from them, you can easily part with someone like Jobe or Ricks, or Maddox.

All 3 of those guys you mention had PFF numbers last year in the 40s.  Maddox has been good in the NFL.  The others have not.

On the other hand,  there are idiot fans who listen to idiot media, and come up with garbage.

The best part is Vicks instant disapproval. It’s like he spent all day trying to convince McNabb not to do it and as soon as he did he let out a "this corny mf’er”

Smith is such a disappointment.  He was the "late” pick I had unreasonable expectations for this year

I'm not disappointed in Smith.  I looked at his combine / pro day numbers and was not impressed.  Johnny Wilson,  big wr,  top blocking wr of the top group of receivers, is faster.  A Smith should be phantom IR and see you next year.  He had shin surgery, I think, and is just not 100%.  IR,  fine.  The rest of the rookies are doing well.  So, overall, it's fine.

The WR group is fine as it stands now,  without A Smith.

2022 and 2023,  including a Super Bowl year,  has a whole lot of Brown and Smith, and will again this year.  It also had a whole lot of Watkins.  55 PFF in the Super Bowl year.  Saw a whole lot of him that year.  Yet,  despite him sucking,  they still got to the Super Bowl.  The WR group with Covey, Wilson, Campbell and Ross (minus 1 maybe) is better than the WR group that had Watkins sucking playing a big role.

Where Do We Go From Here as a Society After Jalen Hurts Set a New Eagles Training Camp Record?

Quote

There are moments in all of our lives that we’ll always cherish, that we’ll remember forever. The birth of your first child. Your wedding day. The first time your significant other said they loved you.

Well let me tell you, gang, those days are all complete garbage when weighed against what happened today.

Today is a day you’ll be telling your grandchildren about. Forget memories of your friends and family on your death bed, you’ll be thinking about this moment instead. You’ll be enveloped in its warm embrace as you prepare yourself for the great beyond, nothing giving you more comfort than what happened on this day. Your children lovingly holding your hand as your eyes close for the final time, a wistful smile on your face? A mere blip compared to the grandiose nature of what occurred on Aug. 7th, 2024.

You’ll always remember where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news. You’ll never forget the day Jalen Hurts set the all-time Philadelphia Eagles training camp record for most-consecutive pass attempts in a row without throwing an interception. Let that sink in for a moment. Hurts attempted 158 pass attempts in training camp and didn’t throw a single interception.

NOT. A. ONE.

It’s depressing when you think about it, actually. This is THE definitive high mark for all of us. Nothing gets better than this. Everything you feel and experience from this day forward is going to be less than what you felt today.

From here on out every single day is just going to be worse than this one. It fills you with existential dread, doesn’t it? The air will be a little less sweet, the sunshine a little less bright, love a little less muted for the rest of time on this earth.

Because in the back of your mind you know that life, in and of itself, is now pointless. The essence of BEING is no longer worth experiencing. You’ve seen the highest of the highs that this world can provide to you.

So what now? How can you go back to your career, to your family, to anything that once gave you joy? It will always be in the back of your mind, in some dark recess of your SOUL, that nothing you ever encounter will top this moment in history.

"Sweetie, look! He’s taking his first steps! Our little boy, he’s taking his first steps!”

"Wow, that’s great hun.” ::thinking:: Oh my god Jalen Hurts threw 158 pass attempts without a single interception…what now? How can I go on?

My only advice for any of you is to do your best. LIVE, damnit, with the knowledge that you’ve been witness to the pinnacle of human performance, of what mankind can accomplish in this world.

Let it flow over your tongue, imbue every pore of your spirit, fill your heart with a warmth that nothing can ever touch. Close your eyes. You can see it, can’t you? The briskness of the incomplete passes, the five-yard down and outs, the inept training camp defense that never intercepted a single pass over a glorious two week span.

Let it give you strength.

158 consecutive training camp passes without an interception. A new Philadelphia Eagles training camp record.

You’ll always have THIS in your life. Friends and family come and go, but this moment in time will never leave you. Nobody can ever take this away from you.

Be strong.

The ones that should make the team should stay, plus one more.  This team needs good secondary starters and good depth.

It’s funny that we were so bad on the back end (literally among the worst) a year ago, and now we think we are the Secondary Store.  Yes they added in FA and the draft.  I say let them prove it when it counts before we ‘count our chickens’

Slay was ok last year,  Ringo was ok last year, Sydney Brown was ok last year.  all with 60s in the PFF. Blankenship was good,  Tristan was good.  Both with PFFs in the 70s  Bradberry was below average, after being good sometimes. PFF in the 50s.

Ricks was bad,  Jobe was bad, Maddox was bad, after being good sometimes.  All those 3 had PFFs in the 40s.  The average was low,  because of those 3.

Some good notes here

But eventually, someone has to go.

Slay, Mitchell, Ringo, DeJean. Those four are 100% stone cold locks. They have 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks invested in them, without even talking about their potential down the road.

Rodgers is here at no cost other than sitting for a year and has a $1 million contract with no dead cap. He's a moveable asset that costs them nothing. He might be CB2 right now but anything you get for him in a trade is a bonus.

Maddox is probably a near lock too. Outside of his injury concerns, he knows his role, plays it well and can be a safety in a heartbeat. He's a valuable piece as frustrating as it is to see him get injured every year.

5 almost stone cold locks in Slay, Ringo, Mitchell, DeJean and Maddox. None of those guys are gunners on ST and you need them.

Jobe is their top gunner but McPearson has been that as well. Ricks showed he was a key backup last year. Maybe 2 of those guys stick but at least one of them does. There's going to be a good player cut and then claimed.

Ricks sucked last year.  So did Jobe.  both had PFFs in the 40s.   Both should go.

Bradberry has already been paid $9 Million this year as an option bonus.  He stays.

Unless the Eagles get a great pick for Bradberry because the Eagles already paid him, it's like getting a $9 Million player for free.

Gunners play on kickoff returns.  Old-style kickoff returns.  They don't have old-style kickoff returns now.  Kickoff returns are a bunch of guys standing around the 30 yard line now.  I would think a fast linebacker would be more helpful than a guy who runs 50 yards now.  You could put OL and DL back there and downblock a big hole for the kick returner.  Kickoff returns look like run plays except no one has a clue what to do, except stand around.   Eventually they'll figure it out.  If I'm kicking off, I might just say, screw the extra 5 yards,  I'm just going to boom it into the end zone like last year.

And the Cowboys funfair keeps providing entertainment

Ringo and Jobe have shown me enough that they can fill in short term at outside CB. Short term as in a game or two. I think they are the inexpensive, quality depth you want in CB5/6. You can't ask for much better when it comes to reserves who are also core ST players.

DeJean is a complete wildcard. He could be outside, he could be nickel or a safety.

Another thing to factor in is CJGJ. Sidney Brown will be back sooner than later and he was improving as the year went on. CJGJ can always bump down to play slot corner with Blankenship and Brown at safety. I think Tristin McCollum has the same versality. If Maddox gets dinged, or should I say, when he gets dinged, there are 2 or 3 options to fill his shoes.

One of the best thing about the whole group of DBs is that so many of them can play multiple positions and that will help tremendously when finalizing the roster.

Jobe has a PFF last year of 40.8.  I thought "that's terrible" because that's terrible.  And I think he should be on the practice squad or not on the Eagles at all.   I thought that the Eagles brought in a lot of new DBs this year because of things like having a DB or multiple DBs with PFFs in the 40s.  Ricks was 45.3, or CB 122 of 127.

The Eagles didn't have a lot of players with PFFs in the 40s.  People complain about LBs,  but all the LBs,  the ones who left, the ones who stayed,  had PFFs in the 60s or better.  Not terrible or bad.  Mostly average, Morrow in the low 70s,  everyone else in the 60s.
