He's been asking for a new contract for 2-3 years now I think

That wouldn't be good considering he's still a good player

I'm just thinking of the negotiations, for him, Dak, CeeDee, and Parsons.

Ah okay. Yup. Some big contracts. Sadly Parsons has said that he's fine with waiting until Dak and Lamb get theirs. Thankfully Lamb hasn't been happy with the process so far

It'll suck if they're able to figure out how to pay all of them

I could see that, Lane as good as he is isnt a youngling any longer, he needs a padowan.

that was Becton.  but I guess not anymore.   there were a good number of people here who wanted a giant RT (like Mims) to sit and wait for Lane to retire.  draft came and the Eagles got 2 smaller IOL,  but not the big RT they wanted to do nothing until Lane retired.  and those people complained,  where is my "RT of the future"  and the next day the Eagles got Becton.  Here is your RT of the future,  he will be playing swing tackle.  I liked that.  But now,  according to many, Becton is the RG and Steen isn't,  and the Eagles now have an extra payday.  Instead of 3 cheap years of Steen at RG.   I would think that the 1st round pick with 4 years experience at a harder position would be at least as good as the 3rd round pick who hasn't played much.   I also think that Jordan Davis would be better at RG.    High first round draft pick,  bigger than Steen,   faster than Steen.  Should he be RG? No.

The Eagles have good OL,  they'll work it out.  It won't be a problem.

Nothing , including the holding call, that Steen did in the game on Friday makes me concerned that he is not working out.  Note that the starting OL in the Ravens game was  entirely made up of entirely of college OTs. Eagles love OL that have T backgrounds, which makes Keegan an interesting pick. Great choice though.  Thought Becton looked okay but I think Steen looked a tad better in technique.

Yeah, it can take time to adjust from OT to OG, depending on the player and their skill set. Steen is still working through an ankle injury. Becton is adjusting from being more passive at OT to learning to use his power at OG. Different skill sets, Steen is more mobile, Becton has elite power but has to improve bend, leverage and explosion and learn how to play "in a phone booth." No reason not to be patient with both players.

Same way some players can play both sides, others need time to retrain their muscle memory. Keegan is learning OG at LG, once Stoutland feels he's got that down, look for him to play at RG, one thing at a time.

Steen and Keegan have OT height but OG arms. So better suited to OG as starters, but capable of backing up at OT.

We're only half-way through TC, we have two more weeks to cutdown day, then two more weeks after that before the first game.

That's a lot of practice time.

And with rookies, by December they'll have the equivalent of a full year of college - which is why a lot of rookies start making contributions in November and December after they've had enough practices and film room time to figure out what they're doing out there.

If they give Dak Prescott an extension, it is the greatest case of organizational malpractice I have ever seen. And this isn't a comment on Dak's ability, or if he is worth the money (I don't believe he is, but to each their own). If they intend to extend Dak, then their failure to do so before the start of FA has basically cost them the 2024 season. By carrying his $55 million cap number (dropped from $60mm due to a small conversion), they allowed the team to be gutted in FA -- lost 2 starting OL, starting RB, 2 quality DE that combined for 11.5 sacks, and their most consistent corner. Even if you couldn't get an extension done in time, but were committed to keeping him, you could have freed up over $20mm in cap space by converting almost $28mm of his base salary into a signing bonus and amortizing it over 5 years. Resigning him now would be the clearest sign yet, of many previous signs, that Jerry has no clue how to run a team.

Looking at the roster what stands out is how quickly Howie rebuilt this team.

Oldest players at QB, RB, WR, TE = Goedert (29), Barkley (27), Brown (27).

OL:  Lane (34), then next oldest Mailata (27)

DL:  Graham (36), then Sweat (27)

LB:  Baun (27), White (26)

DB:  Slay (33), Bradberry (31), Maddox (28), CJGJ (27)

A legitimate SB contender with (2) starters over 30, (1) 29 and the rest are 27 or younger. With most key players under contract the next few years.

So they can't just use void years to kick the can?

Not to mention he could've made Ceedee Lamb happy last offseason by making him the highest paid WR in the league, and saved roughly $40 million over 4 years compared to what it will now cost to do that

You're not allowed to lick him, no matter how you compensate him. You sick F.

The contract has 4 void years. That's why they could have converted his base salary into a signing bonus and spread the ~28mm hit our over 5 years from 2024-2028. But by leaving it as a base salary in 2024, it all gets charged to the cap in 2024. Converting it also would have required a lump sum payment as opposed to paying in game checks. Maybe Jerry has cash flow issues?

Something tells me he probably agreed in good faith to a number they gave him, and then he changed that number.  Could be wrong about that…just a guess.  But not even the Jets can be that dumb, can they?

Definitely something fishy going on

How much do you think he's asking for? Will be 32 this week

I mean, allowing Ceedee to get to this point is also dumb, unless you plan to go into a full rebuild. At some point, the actions tell me that is where they are headed. They are in a really tough spot with Lamb now -- he is their only real weapon on offense, and he is going to demand Justin Jefferson money based on his stats. But his stats are inflated based on him getting all the targets, and he isn't worth JJ money (or AJ Brown money). So they are up against it.

This is why Howie doing early extensions is such smart business. Yeah, you get burned by the occasional Wentz situation, but when it works, you have cost certainty for a few years.

Probably a similar situation to Reddick.  Older player that has still been highly productive recently.  Looking for a final big payday.

Not to mention he would have been way cheaper if they signed him before Lawrence, Tua, Love etc. got their new extensions.

There are only 3 logical conclusions to what is going on in Dallas:

1. Jerry is an idiot that doesn't understand how to build a team and manage the salary cap -- 60% chance of being the case based on his history.

2. They plan on going full rebuild -- fire McCarthy, let Dak walk, maybe trade Ceedee -- 20% chance

3. They have real cash flow issues -- 20% -- Jerry has always been at the bottom in cash spending

I've been convinced for some months, pre FA starting, that Jerry has intended to let Dak walk at the end of his contract. He knows he can't pay everyone and equally know Dak's limitations at this point. He had the ability to do something with Dak's contract and didn't, and I think will prioritise Lamb and Parsons, who are still ascending players and arguably better than Dak.

The funny part is Jerry is quietly stringing him along to keep him happy with the prospect of another contract.  The fact is breadcrumbing player for another team says a lot too

Falcons signed Jakeem Grant who was on that list of top available WR list from a day or two ago...  Only wanted us to get him so I could yell JAKEEM like King Jaffe Joffer did to his son from Zamunda

Interesting article on The Athletic about Tim Walz as a defensive coach at High School.  Loved the playbook pictures, especially the secondary running "Cover 3”, which was a three DB secondary, two cornerbacks and a single S with the instructions, no one gets deeper than you.  Ran a 4/4 front. Kind of nostalgic about HS football and refreshingly devoid of politics.

Cover 3 is a Socialist defense.

Well this is different

Jets just went ahead anyway

I could see the Eagles being a team in on Judon if the pass rushers have looked as meh as reporters say in camp.

Sweat and a pick?

I’d say Keegan has demonstrated he can play LG,and learned well under Harbaugh and Moore at Michigan, he’s getting refinement to NFL technique.  Hopefully he can play both LG and RG.  Would be nice if he added some C to his résumé at some point.  Steen, in contrast never played G before.  Started college as a DE, moved to RT and then LT.
