Modern college football has made it so hard to find a modern LB. There just aren't many 240+ LBs who can run 4.6 or better AND have good enough instincts.

They become edges.  The defensive adaptation to passing taking over the game is that every single elite athlete on defense over 6’1” gets funneled into being an edge rusher…with only a few exceptions of tall skinny DBs.

The whole draft is a crap shoot, Im not sure ILB busts out anymore than any other position.

Having said that I have zero problems with Howie not using a first on an ILB but Mike Singletary in his prime could be there and Howie wouldnt draft him.

It would just be nice to have a Good ILB and one thats here longer than a year.

Lets say White turns it around and has a good year, what are the chances Howie re signs him compared to the chances he just lets him walk

And we start the same song and dance 🤷‍♂️

Everybody said we don't "value" RB and this season, we handed out a top RB deal to a FA. Everybody said we never draft DBs in the first round and this year we did. I wouldn't rule anything out. If the player the Eagles like is there when they pick, they will take him regardless of position.

IMO, the best ILB prospect we've seen in the draft in the last several years was Micah Parsons and the team that drafted him figured out quickly that he's even more valuable as an edge than a full time ILB.

Just a note on Singletary. He was a 2nd round pick and didn't really start making a name for himself until his 3rd season. Not every great player comes into the NFL and dominates from day 1.

Howie did draft a LB that many believed to be the best of his class when the Eagles chose Dean. As a rookie, he was neck and neck with Edwards for the starting role in training camp, but Edwards ended up winning the job and had a career year. The Eagles were comfortable with letting Edwards leave in free agency because they had a lot of confidence in Dean taking over. We all know Dean lost a majority of the season because of his foot and the Eagles clearly missed him. Now some of you automatically assume he's a bust just because you don't know what the Eagles see/have in him.

To your first sentence, please name them. Devin White was most assuredly one. Who else? Are you seriously talking Bobby Wagner?

To your second, whom should he have drafted and where?

No argument with the third sentence. No one else did  The miss rate on ILBs that pretty much everybody for the last ten years.

To the fourth, how would you have managed it?

Patrick queen was available, a team that has always valued LB signed him but what do they know its not like theyve won the most superbowls ever.

Im not talking about wagner, you really seem to be getting worked up over this, Just Relax😉

As for the draft im not sure, I wasnt as into pre draft stuff as I was in the past, I wasnt really a fan of Trotter, hes a combination of small and not that athletic.

I also wasnt a fan of the Dean pick still not not sure who howie could have drafted instead, that was a few years ago and I have a tough time remembering yesterday so.

All I know is eagles have struggled at off ball LBs it seems forever and Im not sure White is the answer and if he is I doubt Howie will re sign him

I didnt like Dean before he got hurt or at anytime, never been a fan if him.

I hope he proves me wrong, the eagles could really use a good ILB.

As for Singletary that why I said " in his prime"

Iiked TJ , still confusing that they let him go, i e heard howie never even offered him, ive heard howie offered him a contract because he wanted to be closer to home.

If its True Howie just let TJ walk then thats just idiotic, you dont get rid of a known quantity and keep the unknown quantity that the known quantity beat out.

Like I said I think Howie has mismanaged LB and im not so sure this year will be any different but if it is id be ecstatic.

Howie has clearly made poor moves at LB tho he actually brought in TJ Edwards as an UDFA and Kyzir White was a good signing.  All his bets last year failed. We’ll see about this year.  I’m not overly confident in this group but it’s possible someone emerges. One good player and one decent player is all they need really

A 240+ LB who can run 4.6 or better becomes a highly paid Edge,  who is often not asked to do anything (well) but sack.  If he can try to sack every play,  and makes enough sacks he gets paid extremely well.

LBs are asked to do things that either smaller people or larger people do well.   Pass coverage?  better for smaller people.  Run defense? better for larger people.  ILBs are asked to do both,  and they're not paid as well as edgers who just sack, so, there aren't as many top ILBs as there could be if you made their jobs easier and paid them more.

The Eagles happen to have a ton of ILBs right now.  Compare last year.

At this point last year,  there were Dean and Morrow.  Those were presented as the 2 starting ILBs, and there was not a lot of complaining about that.   Others were on the 90,  some were on the 53 the year before,  but names like Shaun Bradley, Christian Elliss,  Ben VanSumeren were special teams / practice squad.

This year,  Dean again,  same as last year.  Instead of a single Morrow in real competition for snaps on defense,  there are like 5 players instead of a single Morrow.   There is a lot more there this year.  Zach Baun Oren Burks Ben VanSumeren Jeremiah Trotter Devin White

VanSumeren,  UDFA,  from a Big 10 school.  Just like TJ Edwards.  Had the best PFF of any of the Eagles ILBs last year.  Has great speed and strength.  I have confidence there.  I think he'll make big plays with the speed and strength.    But the ILB room has a lot of players this year.

A year ago if you’d have said the Eagles had Dean, White and Trotter Jr this season most fans would have been ecstatic

Can you imagine Queen on that defense with the other moves?

It feels like everyone is becoming younger than me and I'm not too old yet.

Off topic: can't sleep and was looking a photos of the red carpet at the Met Gala and it reminded me of the party scenes in Hunger Games in  the capitol city.

Queen has 58 missed tackles in his 4 seasons with 14 coming just last year. He's the epitome of "the grass is greener." Our LBs had no problem missing tackles last season. Queen missed as many as Cunningham and Morrow combined.

That's only because our guys were hardly in position to even make tackles 😜

There's a market efficiency for 6'2 pass rushers to convert to LB in college as there's way less supply and the demand for LBs.

The same thing happened to CB in the 2010s when all these ok WR prospects realized they would make more "money" in college converting to CB.

except, a pass rusher wont make more money converting to LB. Pass rushers get paid much more.

I miss that place for the fans... I don't miss it for the players.

I was there for the MNF game where the flare was fired across the field.   Eagles - 49ers.   Horrific game.

I was also there for the Eagles-Cardinals game the last week of the season, where some morons came around with a Dallas Cowboys flag... taunting the 700 level.   Some folks got mad and threw their beer at them from about 20 rows back.   Obviously they missed and hit the folks sitting in the 600 level with their beers.   So, they came up to say 'Hey' to the 700 level crowd.   The ensuing fight was one of the best ever at the stadium.  By the time the dust settled half of section 714 was missing and down in the detention area (I assume).

Ah... the good 'ole days!

Friends father had a big car dealership, he had a suite but for his sons, he got them an entire row in the 600 level.  Used to go to games and when something good happened, we'd play clear the row.....basically someone on the end would blindside the guy next to him pushing into the entire row, many a time we all ended up on the stairs in a pile laughing our asses off in a big pile on.  And attended many a game in the 700 level, only place where you were at risk as a home fan as much as an away fan!  That place was nuts!  And unfortunately, I was not only at the last home game vs. Washington, I was at the playoff game vs. Tampa (I still have nightmares over that game).
